COTTON REBOOT!

Cotton reboot es un remake del Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams lanzado en el año 1991 originalmente para salones recreativos. Y posteriormente obtuvo una versión para la computadora Sharp X68000, de la cual tomaron esa versión para crear este remake, con un apartado pixel art bastante increíble, una banda sonora totalmente mejorada, voice acting en las cinemáticas, que por cierto están re dibujadas, y con 4 personajes: 1 inicial y 3 desbloqueables al completar el modo arrange, más variedad de enemigos y poderes, teniendo 3 modos de dificultad: Fácil, normal y difícil, podremos configurar los botones y elegir que tipo de música escuchar en el gameplay, ya sea la original o la nueva. En este juego podemos elegir cuál de las 2 versiones puedes jugar, ya sea el remake o el port de la versión de Sharp que es bastante fiel a la original e incluye ademas una dificultad extra llamada "Beep Edition"y que además reemplaza los pitidos de las cinemáticas por las mismas voces que tiene la versión remake. A comparación del juego original que se borraban los records al reiniciar el arcade/computadora, aquí si se guarda tu record y puedes ver la clasificación global online de cada modo de juego con sus diferentes dificultades. También un incluye un time attack de 2 y 5 minutos para ver qué tan alto puntaje podemos conseguir y verse reflejado en el ranking mundial. Un punto muy positivo es que el juego tiene Continues infinitos para no estropear la experiencia con un triste Game over, ya que en la versión original nos daba un límite de 9 Continues mientras que aquí son infinitos tanto en el arrange mode como en el x68000 mode, podemos elegir el idioma de la interfaz, ya sean japonés, chino, coreano, frances e ingles. Sin duda alguna, es una bonita colección de 2 títulos, disfrutando una experiencia clásica y moderna de un solo juego, teniendo en cuenta que este es un juego en conmemoración del 30 aniversario de la franquicia, reviviendo este bonito clásico. Lo recomiendo mucho :)

Very fun game with colorful graphics, good controls and excellent music. I have played this in the past using emulators but decided to buy it now on Steam to support the devs since I liked the game and having it easy and ready to play on Steam is much more convenient than setting up emulators. These type of games are just pick up and play for a quick run for a few minutes. I'd recommend. It is very good but only when it's on sale like 75% off. The PC port is the simplest thing you can imagine with no options and it runs at 720p, but that's really not that bad for a simple game like this. My take here is that one arcade run can be completed in about 40min, so it's really short, which is common for these shoot em ups, but they really put a very high price on this one for what it really offers. Game itself is great and really fun to play. Good to see a good remake of Cotton available in current hardware, but being really short and with a bare bones PC port it should only be purchased on sale.

Pura nostalgia, é muito legal para relembrar. Não encontrei o mapeamento de teclado e apesar de funcionar, eu aconselho você a ter um joystick. O jogo é bem curto e rápido para completar, algo normal para os jogos antigos e que também se aplica para os refeitos, mas isso não lhe tira a qualidade. É bem caro, pegue em uma promoção.

Fuyez la version Steam de cette pépite! Privilégiez la PS4 et la Switch. La version Steam plante au démarrage ou à la sortie de jeu. Et le dev ne fait plus rien pour corriger...

I play a lot of shmups but am by no means good at them, so this review is from the perspective of an amateur who is trying to get through the game using as few lives as possible, but not cranking up the difficulty or setting a 1CC clear as the goal. Cotton Reboot is both a port and a remaster of the first game in the Cotton shmup series. It contains two modes. The first mode in this release is a faithful port of the X68000 release of the original arcade game. The X68000 version was a graphically updated and arranged version of the arcade game, and is widely considered to be the best way to play the original Cotton. The second mode in Cotton Reboot is the arrange mode, which has newly updated graphics and soundtrack, and sports new enemy arrangements, bullet patterns, magic attacks, and scoring mechanics. While I am glad the 90s version is included, I think the arrange mode is the star of the show here with more interesting gameplay mechanics and much prettier presentation. The game contains options which make it enjoyable for a wide range of skill levels, including adjustable difficulty, adjustible number of lives, and unlimited continues for people who just want to clear the game. For the dedicated shmup enthusiast, there are online leaderboards. After clearing the game, you unlock three additional characters to play as. There is also a time attack mode where the goal is to rack up as many points as you can in a given time limit, played in a basic stage with no stage hazards and infinite lives. Cotton Reboot is incredibly responsive to play, has an amusing and whimsical story, and a graphical style which appealingly mixes cutesy characters and enemies with an otherwise gothic and spooky Halloween atmosphere. While some of the criticisms people are leveling at the game are fair (such as not supporting borderless windowed mode), the complaints are hardly deal-breakers. This is a sprite based game with artwork designed for a 720p resolution. Yes the game should have supported a convenient borderless windowed mode with arbitrary scaling to your preferred resolution. But even if that feature was there, this would still be a 2d game rather than a 3d game, and the art which was drawn with a 720p resolution in mind could only be upscaled to higher resolutions rather than re-rendered at that native resolution. Complaining about the 720p internal resolution in a 2d game like Cotton Reboot is like complaining about NES games rendering at 240p rather than 4k, i.e. a fools errand. The only genuine technical complaint I have is an audio issue I encountered. When I streamed the game from my PC to my Steam Deck, when the game loaded it would correctly direct sound to the default audio device (the Steam Streaming Speakers outputting audio to the Steam Deck). But when the game reached the title screen it switched audio output to my PC's speakers. I'm not sure what the root cause is, but I presume it's a bug that is re-initializing the audio device used by the game when it reaches the title screen, but it is incorrectly selecting the first enumerated device in all the audio devices Windows has available, instead of correctly selecting the default audio device specified in Windows. There is no option in game to select an audio device manually, so I had to force the application to use the Steam Streaming Speakers via Windows and then restart the game to get this the audio to stream properly. It would be nice if this bug was fixed but given the game hasn't seen a patch in over a year I'm not going to hold my breath. At the same time I also don't think this is a big enough issue to give the game a negative review over. Ignoring those couple of small technical complaints, both of which can both be worked around, I think the game is deserving of recommendation. It seems like there are many reviews on Steam that malign this release for reasons other than the game itself. Whether the complaints be the 720p resolution, issues that are outside of the developers' control like Steam Deck compatibility, or completely external factors like the price. Make no mistake. Cotton Reboot is a fun time, a timeless shmup, and if you can catch it on sale great value for the money.

2h遊んでの感想です。 キー設定ができて操作しやすくていいと思います。 テンキーを使わせてほしいです。 演出が激しいので目が疲れます。 演出を半透明にするとか暗めにするとか、設定できるともっと遊びやすいと思います。 ステージとステージの間にカットインが入りますが、 これをオンオフ設定できるようになりませんか？ 毎回キーを押して飛ばすのがめんどいです。 キャラクターを設定でかえるのではなく、 ストーリーを開始するときに、 選択できるようになりませんか。 また、キャラクターがコットンじゃないときは、 Loading中に表示されるキャラも使用中のキャラにできませんか。 ステージをまたぐLoadingなのですが、 ティータイム中や、ティータイムが終わってボーナスを表示している間におわりませんか？ ティータイム後のボーナス表示をキーを押してとばせませんか。 むしろティータイムはいらない気がします。 ステージが終わって、よし次って思うのですが、 いちいちティータイムが入るので気がそがれます。 さくさく進んでより遊びやすくなるのではないか、と思いました。

Судя по всему у игры были небольшие QoL и просто технические проблемы на релизе, иначе я просто отказываюсь понимать откуда такой низкий рейтинг. Тут и прекрасный Arrange, который великолепно обновляет оригинал, и таймскор, и не измененный оригинал, собственно, а это только режимы. Сверх них прекрасная графика (без 3D, которое уже утомило в жанре за последние лет 20, ибо часто оно не слишком симпатично), умопомрачительный саундтрек, перерисованные заставки, чары из следующих частей... Да, единственно возможное HD разрешение, кнопки клавиатуры не поменять, но это ведь для жанра совершенная обыденность, немного расстраивает, но не более того. В общем, очень советую прикоснуться к этому мастодонту жанра cute'em'up, и особенно к обновленному режиму, он очень достойный!

Um remake muito bem feito, com gráficos e estilo visual agradável, além de uma ótima trilha sonora e gameplay simples porém satisfatório! As artes das cutscenes são bem fofas e engraçadas, e a experiência como um todo é bastante agradável. Há continues infinitos e diferentes opções de dificuldade para jogadores iniciantes e para os mais experientes em jogos de navinha. Também há a opção de jogar a versão original do game da década de 90, que iniciou a franquia. Sobre a gameplay, as únicas ressalvas são sobre a poluição visual em certos momentos (que pode dificultar na hora de desviar os disparos inimigos), e o fato do tutorial ser apenas um slide com imagens estáticas, e não aprofundar tanto nas mecânicas. Também seria legal se tivesse mais alguns extras, como uma seção de galeria com artes conceituais do jogo original e opção de praticar nas fases individualmente - e quem sabe uma versão infinita do modo Time Attack, mas nada disso chega a ser o bastante para comprometer a experiência. É um game curto, e com ótimo fator replay para quem gosta de disputar pelas melhores pontuações ou se desafiar em dificuldades mais altas e com restrições auto-impostas - além de ter uma atmosfera agradável e relaxante de se revisitar. Mas a menos que seja um fã assíduo do gênero sugiro que espere uma boa promoção. Dito isso, recomendo para aqueles que desejam ter o primeiro contato com jogos de navinha (jogando no Easy), e também para entusiastas do gênero shoot'em'up / cute'em'up que desejam conferir um clássico do gênero com uma nova roupagem - mais de 30 anos após o lançamento original, e ainda esbanjando muita fofura e energia!

The mother of cute em ups, fun and straightforward but with plenty of juice to squeeze in getting all the achievements. The price is high, so get it on discount, but still very much worth a shot for any shmup fan. Ignore the negative reviews.
