I really wanted to like this game, but I've been playing it solo and here's why its not recommended at least as a solo game. The amount you have to move to achieve each quest within the 6 week limit, create times where you need to spend the whole 6 weeks working on one quest ignoring everything else. I was attempting to accomplish one quest in particular
The Dragonslayer Crossbow
, and even with knowing exactly where I needed to go and what to do, I was unable to do it as a single player due to needing to travel to 3 different places far away on the map. And that's even with keeping one of the ingredients needed from the previous loop. I tried a few times and then gave up and quit playing. It's a cute game with an interesting idea of looping and such, but you don't get any improvements loop to loop and as a solo player gameplay stalls too much as you can only accomplish a tiny bit each loop. If you could play multiple characters solo or were playing with a group, I might recommend it. But it's not enjoyable as a solo player.
5/10 would grab on DEEP sale, and only if you have other people to play with, and more controllers, or know how to fake controllers + art + story - gameplay loop - gameplay.... its a visual novel with dice.... + works just fine on windows 7 + game will let you play 2 player with 1 keyboard and 1 controller - after that you need 1 controller for every person - 25$ price tag for what you get why not just make it hotseat controller or keyboard???? its turn based, this is a basic feature thats been around for over 2 decades this game really isnt made to solo. its been a few years since ive done it but you could use a program like joy2keys to fake 4 controllers and do the game solo
The game is not design to be played in single player. They are lying to you. It's a coop game. If you are not at least two, you can't manage to achieve anything.
It feels like a dating sim/visual novel rather than a boardgame or RPG. It's not obvious how you're supposed to proceed and can get frustrating as you aimlessly click around trying to find quests to complete (but not until the next loop or two.)
Was really excited to play this game and have wanted to buy it for more than a year now but its sadly very disappointing. With the time loop reset mechanic you keep having to start over again and theres just not enough time to get anything done. It all feels very repetitive and many quests were not very clear on what exactly you had to do or where to get a specific item.
The visuals and idea of the game are great, unfortunately the gameplay is literally dice rolls. I'm not complaining about the RNG, there are ways to modify your dice roles with stats and other mechanics, but when I say its literally all just dice rolls ... I mean it. Every decision is just a skill check and if you and the people you are playing with are familiar with video games or RPG systems the game is really easy and basically just a co op visual novel. I really wanted to like this one but it just isn't much of a video game.
Multiplayer has issues with connection and stability. Game broke 3 times in our first session and has no way to reconnect if people DC.
I've been playing Baladins with friends, on and off for many months now and it's such an underrated game. We love playing it together. Is it perfect? No. Sometimes the quests rely a lot on random encounters and chance, and you can end up wasting a lot of time going back and forth trying to get it to trigger, but is it fun and is it exciting when you succeed as a team? Yes it is, otherwise we wouldn't keep coming back to it. There are multiple endings for some quests and it can be a bit challenging to find them all or to know what to do next, and it does take a certain amount of back-tracking, but overall, we do really enjoy it. I really hope more people find and enjoy this game as much as we do. It could do with some better guides or walkthroughs.
i like it a lot, the story and writing and art are all amazing. i haven't finished a run yet but it's definitely better with more people, and i wish there was an easy way to play solo-player with multiple characters without having to use both a keyboard and controller by yourself. the length of the time loop does feel really short and not enough to really develop your skills to do specific quests: if you discover a specific quest that requires a high stat check towards the middle/end, there's no way you're completing it in that loop. it would be cool if when you finished a run, you could do like an endless mode where you just run around and talk to everyone and discover all the secrets, because whenever i finish there's no way i'm replaying it, it's just kinda tedious :/
🎭 Baladins Review – Wholesome Chaos in a Time Loop Adventure! 🎮✨ I’m totally hooked on Baladins! This narrative-driven co-op video game has major board game vibes, with storytelling, dice rolls, and player choices that feel like you’re crafting a campaign together. 🎲💬 So far I’ve only played 2-player — and the online co-op runs smoothly — but I can’t wait to dive into 3–4 player sessions to mix up character abilities and try to finally beat those endless quests in the time loop. ⏳🌀 It’s lighthearted, cozy, and absolutely packed with charm. Whether you're spreading joy, rescuing townsfolk, or just being gloriously weird, Baladins is a joyful ride from start to finish. Perfect for fans of narrative games, co-op lovers, and anyone who enjoys sharing laughs with friends. 🌈🎮🐉
