Reviews

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

LA LA LA LA WAIT TILL I GET MY MONEY RIGHT
Surprisingly Enjoyable, but It Lost Me
Code Vein started with an interesting idea of a place cramped with full of revived humans called Revenants. Each time individuals died in that place, they lost their certain memory or themselves. This does create good conflicts where protagonist story is revolved around their present and their past. Despite endless cycle, if the individual got corrupted by miasma, they can transformed into Lost and now their body is incapable to turn normal again. At certain point, if the protagonist consumed others blood, it can carry abilitty called Blood Code, it's a former archetypes previous owner carries. The protagonist is gifted to do a bigger responsibility to help resolving this plague, but my God the presentation and pacing are boring. Some part of the main-story and optional world building are wrapped in memory shard called Vestige. In gameplay perspective, witnessing Blood Code owner's past will unlocked their certain ability. But this flashback is so uniteractive where the dialogue can't be fast-forward, some section can't be skipped, and you have to navigate the flashback. The reason why this is so bad is because there's a multiple vestiges on one blood code, and you will get like 20+ Blood Codes! That's like 20 people flashback. You can skip it, but it skipped the whole section and that's not what I want. I want to skimmed the dialogue, not skipping the whole thing. The worst part is, I'm fine listening to side-character story like Louis, Yakumo, or Mia, but then it gave you names like Riki or Kevin, like who is that? "Oh dude, Kevin is actually Louis friend he helped in this apocalyptic-place", first of all, there's pacing problem with side-characters, so why the game wants me to pay attention to character that are not even exist? I rather just standing around where the dialogue flows instead I have to navigate the character to the rooms for the dialogue to trigger. At first, I'm invested with Blood Codes, but it keep giving you new things it felt like an illusion of choice. I actually loved this unique archetypes, because you can try classes that are good with smaller weapon or bigger weapon or for spell-casting, but they look the same, it looks unappetizing. This blood codes is good for big weapon but agressive type, other blood code is good for big weapon but defensive types, the other blood code is good for big weapon but supportive type. Wait, aren't they the same? Granted, I haven't try all of them because their abilities are need to be mastered in-order to try other class and the worst part is, you will get less EXP if you're overleveled, so you're stuck in the class you might not even be interested of just to unlock the ability. You know what, I know why and the reason is petty. It's because the game wants us to listen to side-character story instead of focusing on making broad ability. And that is why we have so many blood codes. This is a JRPG game, you have the biggest opportunity to create an in-depth character with longer story, why not just focus on lesser characters with lesser blood codes that covers everything but still unique on their own? This JRPG genre didn't worked in this game because of souls-like pacing problem. I actually love the JRPG aspect of this game. You can give gifts to side-characters to see their reaction. At certain point, you can get their present to support your journey. It's cute, it's immersive. But they didn't do anything with it but for exchanging items. The game have so much potential like you can pair this mechanic with vestige story, building relationship, or honestly, romance. But it pairs with worse genre, souls-like. Every souls-like/souls-born games I played are finished around 30 or 40 hours. For JRPG, this is way too short and most of the time, you're in the battlfield. What I love about it is that after you finishes a dungeon, there's some people in other places that wandering around in the world and requires your help, either clearing monsters or finding items. These world building is actually really good because despite apocalyptic world, there are certain survivors trying to live their life. This is like the best part of the game and it works really well. I enjoyed the gameplay and exploration. In Souls games, I always love the exploration. Despite the linearity of the game, they're still trying to create a connected dungeon with many levels, hidden spot, and quest-items. Every corner of the place filled with generous rewards and vestiges. I read a review where there'll be a certain point of the game with difficulty spike and lengthy dungeon but I actually enjoyed the exploration part. People compared that place like Anor Londo because it looks like a castle, but that layered design remind me of The Gutter from Dark Souls 2. It's annoying, you're being chased everywhere, getting lost, and having so little check-point. Despite the hatred towards Blood Codes, I actually love the gameplay around it. With so many blood codes, you can unlock so many passives and abilities. You can buff yourself, coat your weapon, and do specific move with certain weapon, and it was awesome. Yes, at some point i'm getting tired of the enemies. Somehow every late-game enemies will do a 360 degree moves so you can't get around it. EVERY enemy. I got tilted on certain mini-bosses because their hitbox is really weird and my hitbox is really weird. But I still like how accessible the gameplay is because I really just want to enjoy myself playing this game so having a Partner that will ease your journey is just making the game much more fun and importantly, immersive, because they have interactive dialogue and reaction during exploration. Code Vein is a fun souls-like game that is trying something new around it. The gameplay offers many variability that fit players prefferences but often overwhelmes the choices and ended up being confusing. Regardless how cliches it written and generic the story is, I can see the potential charms the characters has to offer. Louis, Yakumo, Mia, Eva, Jack, Io, and the protagonist are set in a good character development between the past and present but it fails because it rushes on the development and it creates unorganic relationship. I thought the premises of revenant, Lost, and Queen are really interesting but their presentation of it are really boring. I give Code Vein 7/10.
