Civilization IV is still the best version of Civilization. This is the game where they truly nailed the formula: deep strategy, meaningful choices, great pacing, strong AI, memorable diplomacy, and just the right amount of complexity. Every era feels important, and every decision can shape the rest of the game. I would love to see a remastered version with modern graphics, better resolution support, improved UI, and smoother performance. But the core gameplay should be left alone. Don’t reinvent it, don’t simplify it, and don’t chase trends. Just preserve what made Civ IV great and give it the modern polish it deserves. A remaster should also be built with the modding community in mind. Civ IV has stayed alive for so long because of its incredible mods and dedicated community, so strong mod support should be treated as a core feature, not an afterthought.
The last truly great Civilization game. Series is long-dead, Firaxis is parading around in its skin. Mini-engine can't come soon enough so we can make CIV great again You'll enjoy the game but it's aged pretty badly.
The last of the doom stack variety of civ games and my favorite personally. Gets a bit boring in the late game as you're usually just cruising to victory at that point but what's new with 4x games am I right
One of the few games that has stood the test of time.
Immersive time sink of potentially hours (or days - if you want) and worth every minute. Best all-around world creation game I have ever played. I purchased some of the subsequent chapters (V, VI, etc) but I find myself always coming back to IV eventually. With the expansions (Warlords, et. al.) it is hard to imagine ever really getting this version played out. Highly recommended. Enjoy!!
Best civ ever made, still.
The last true Civ game.
The best non-mod version of civ, in my humble opinion.
my favorite game of all time
