lots of fun
Strongly recommend! not buggy, no crash problems. One of the better ones with this engine.
Who the hell designed this ♥♥♥♥? Unbalanced, AI that cheats mercilessly at everything. Nothing is explained, you have to try everything by trial and error, and then still it's unclear why things happen. Got attacked in defensive position inflicted 3-4 times more casualties, no unit broke, yet it's a defeat. Lol. Never bought any of the AGEOD games and not going to do it ever again.
Have a lot more time with this game away from Steam. It's showing its age and AGEOD have always been a little on the eccentric side on how their grand strategy games work. Athena (the AI) has a tendency towards occasional significant brain farts which can be quite crippling given the relatively short distances involved between Washington DC and Richmond. I've never been keen on grand strategy games getting too far into the weeds and ACW2 does get a little too close to them at times with things like needing to piece by piece build up divisions for generals to command, and I always found AGEOD's way of displaying units on the map is very nice with just the one 'card' but it can get a bit cluttered once several start stacking in the same region. All that said, I know I've spent lengthy campaigns thoroughly enjoying the game. It captures the geographical scope, what made some areas so fiercely contested, and the importance of rail and river to supply and movement. So a recommend, just with some caveats for players not familiar with AGEOD's games.
It's okay, I guess. The strategy aspect is great, in theory, but frustrating in practice. UI is not intuitive and the simplest actions can be quite difficult to carry out. If I had more patience and had countless hours to spend learning how to master the game it would probably be good fun. I don't, on either count, and this game seems to demand more in terms of learning time than most. For those with heaps of time on their hands it should be great though.
There's a lot of janky civil war stuff on the market trying to replicate the magic of Sid Meier's Gettysburg and Civil War General, but this is the only effort of the past two decades that really scratches the itch. It's AEGOD, but AEGOD at its best, not trying to do too much with the engine. You can restrict the war to as limited a geographic region as you wish, or play the entire 2 theater (East and West) conflict from Ft. Sumter to Appomatox (or Washington, or Richmond in 1861, if you get lucky). It's a versatile engine well-suited to 19th century warfare, and relatively easy to learn. The AI is challenging and responsive while still allowing the possibility for an underdog victory as the South. Play the CSA and you get the feeling of fencing against a truly superior foe, unable to be strong everywhere, while still executing offensive thrusts where the Federals are weak.
This one has the best turn speed than other ageod games. Very good and detailed game.
Great tactical simulator; have found none better.
Great strategy game, with focus also on logistics, generals and army organization not just numbers.
