Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2.11/day in the week to Aug 4 → 5.29/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

Caves of Qud is a Hugo Award-winning science fantasy roguelike epic steeped in retrofuturism, deep simulation, and swathes of sentient plants. Come inhabit a living, breathing world and chisel through layers of thousand-year-old civilizations. Decide: is it a dying earth, or is it on the verge of rebirth?

Do anything and everything. Caves of Qud is a deeply simulated, biologically diverse, richly cultured world.
DEEP PHYSICAL SIMULATION — Don’t like the wall blocking your way? Dig through it with a pickaxe, or eat through it with your corrosive gas mutation, or melt it to lava. Yes, every wall has a melting point.
FULLY SIMULATED CREATURES — Every monster and NPC is as fully simulated as the player. That means they have levels, skills, equipment, faction allegiances, and body parts. So if you have a mutation that lets you, say, psionically dominate a spider, you can traipse through the world as a spider, laying webs and eating things.
DYNAMIC FACTION SYSTEM — Pursue allegiances with over 70 factions: apes, crabs, trees, robots, and highly entropic beings, just to name a few.
RICHLY DETAILED SCIENCE FANTASY SETTING — Over fifteen years of worldbuilding have led to a rich, weird, labyrinthine, one-of-a-kind storyworld, layered on top of the simulation, all for you to explore. Live and drink, friend.
TACTICAL GAMEPLAY — Turn-based, sandbox exploration and combat offers as many solutions as you and your mutations, implants, artifacts, and skills are creative enough to invent.
RPG ELEMENTS — Quests, NPCs, villages, historic sites; some dynamic and some handwritten, interwoven to produce a transportative RPG experience.
ATMOSPHERIC ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK — Over two hours of otherworldly music to delve to.

Caves of Qud has one of the most expressive character creators of all time.
Play the role of a mutant indigenous to the salt-spangled dunes and jungles of Qud, or play a true kin descendant from one of the few remaining eco-domes — the toxic arboreta of Ekuemekiyye, the ice-sheathed arcology of Ibul, or the crustal mortars of Yawningmoon.
Build your character out of:
Over 70 mutations — outfit yourself with wings, two heads, four arms, flaming hands, teleportation, the power to clone yourself…
Dozens of cybernetic implants (and more to find as treasure) — night vision, translucent skin, carbide fists, spring-loaded ankle tendons…
24 castes and kits from across the social order of Qud and beyond Moghra’yi, the Great Salt Desert
Too overwhelmed to build a character from scratch? Choose one of 9 preset characters and start your adventure right away. Then return to character creation when you are ready.

Play one of four modes:
CLASSIC — Like other traditional roguelikes, this mode has permadeath, meaning you lose your character when you die. Extremely challenging even for experts.
ROLEPLAY — Play it like an RPG. Save your progress at checkpoints located in settlements.
WANDER — Focus on exploration. Most creatures will not attack you, you don’t gain experience by killing, but you DO gain experience by discovering new locations and treating with legendary creatures.
DAILY — One chance with a fixed character and world seed. How long will you survive?

After 9 years of continuous development and frequent updates, Caves of Qud has finally reached its 1.0 release! Here are some highlights of what's been added for 1.0:
The last leg of the main quest
The new, fully graphical UI
Hundreds of visual & sound effects
Lots of polish & stability

Caves of Qud is a project of epic proportions that's been in development for over fifteen years, since 2007. It began as the science fantasy roguelike dream of co-creators Jason Grinblat and Brian Bucklew, who released the first beta in 2010. Since then, it's accrued a few more contributors who have enriched the project by helping to add visual effects, sound effects, an original soundtrack, a new UI, new game systems, new lore, and half a world of content. Caves of Qud has grown into a wild garden of emergent narrative, where a handwritten story weaves a path through rich physical, social, and historical simulations. The result is a hybrid handcrafted and procedurally-generated world that's alive in a way few games are.

I have been playing this game literally on and off for years. Its the best Rogue Like (whatever the term is) I've ever played. Its also a wonderful tribute to Gamma World from 2nd Edition AD&D. That is one aspect that has kept my attention. I played the Gamma World campaign setting when I was a teenager and hadn't been able to find anything quite like it. I haven't beaten the main story line in the game yet. This was partly due to pre-stable 1.0 development cycles invalidating saves. Which is fine. I didn't even really care. I never had enough time to do a full play through due to life circumstances. It didn't even matter in the end. The randomly generated world, the infinite numbers of ways a character could be developed, and skilled translation of the world is all I needed. I also am visually impaired. The graphics are clear and simple. It took some adjustment, but I also have played text games since the 80s. ASCII are was a huge part of those games. With how flashy and intense modern titles are, this was a welcome alternative. I enjoy that classic look and feel this game is an excellent tribute to the style. I don't have anything negative to say. If you had experience with or love for personal computer games from the 80s, this is at least worth a try. The replay value is also very high. I have recommended this game for years and will continue doing so.

I had first bought this when it first was released into early access, was not impressed, and refunded. With 1.0, I cannot stop playing it. If you love TOME, Dwarf Fortress's Adventure mode, or just want to be immersed in a ludicrous amount of lore and mechanics, I highly recommend picking this up. I wish I had sooner! So far I've only played as a mutated human. I cannot wait to try the True Kin as I've stumbled upon some of their lore and mechanics. Considering I had 1 hour played previously, I've been playing non stop over the last couple of days and put in 11 hours.

-be me -pure blooded human, embarking for the Caves of Qud -have cybernetically modified eyes that grant me night vision, thanks to my pure genome -come with a jackhammer that I will use for the rest of my playthrough -arrive in a small town - ask around for work, return to where I began with 3 quests -One of them requires me just going somewhere and drinking from a village's holy chalice, near an apple orchard -think of easy EXP, embark west to the orchard -find the chalice easily, but it's empty -"I know, just put a dram of my own water in it" -complete the quest, ready to head back and claim my reward -take a detour after getting lost -find a set of stairs leading down -ooooo title card -explore the cave for a bit -find a nest of large centipedes -get mauled to death by said large centipedes -the village never hears of me again ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I love this game

new obsession. please help
On a journey to make myself stronger I encountered a famous plant who, at some point in its history, insulted poetry written by Apes. Upon slaying him I became revered amongst the Ape population who then allowed me to enter their temple where I encountered the 6-armed ape-god. Using my immense knowledge of local insects, we became fast friends and he committed to becoming my companion. Whilst cooking a meal to celebrate the occasion, I snuck the contents of a Love Potion syringe into my portion which gave me the mental and psionic acuity to dominate my new Ape friend's mind. Doing so enabled me to inject him with enough nectar from an ancient pre-cursor civilization to kill a whale, this in turn allowed me to, whilst still controlling his mind, award him the ability to quickly traverse through the fabric of time creating numerous copies of himself at will. This, of course, was the perfect opportunity to douse my new friend in a single splash of Cloning Draught which I purchased from a fluids merchant many moons ago. After a short time, my Ape friend experienced a...medical episode wherein he sprouted another clone of himself from his body, sloughed it off and effectively asexually reproduced. In the end, I may not have gotten stronger, however I now travel the world of Qud with two genetically identical Ape-Gods which can crush a boulder to dust in a mere moment whilst also creating numerous, further, clones of themselves through time dilation. And yet, despite all of this, this only encompassed a single play session and a mere sliver of what is capable in this game's sandbox. This game...is very ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good.
Bliss
My new favourite game. The best open world RPG I've ever played. Actually probably just the best game I've ever played. At first I thought it was pretty cool, but I didn't really understand it and then got bored of it. So glad I tried it again. 10/10
