+ • dynamic turn-based combat • lots of freedom when building your team of Beasts.
Abilities are equipped in the form of stickers and can be swapped between different Cassette Beasts.
•
one of the most interesting features is the ability to fuse two Cassette Beasts together. Instead of simply increasing their stats, fusion actually creates entirely new monster forms.
• cute pixel art with its own distinctive style • plenty of quests and side activities. Besides the main story, New Wirral is filled with side quests, rumours, optional battles, puzzles and hidden locations to discover • exploration is rewarded with new abilities.
Some Cassette Beasts unlock abilities that can also be used outside of combat. These allow you to glide, swim, climb or even move around using magnetism. Finding new Beasts therefore isn't just useful for expanding your team, but also opens up new ways to explore the world.
• a large variety of Cassette Beasts built around a refreshingly different concept • lots of achievements. If you enjoy completing games 100%, there's plenty here to keep you busy • an incredibly melodic and slightly melancholic soundtrack • companions who are more than just battle partners. Throughout your journey, you can meet several different characters and follow their personal stories • plenty of freedom. Cassette Beasts gives you a lot of freedom to explore New Wirral and tackle different objectives in your own order - • restrictive level design. One thing I enjoyed less was the amount of walls and artificial barriers scattered throughout the world. You're often forced to take unnecessary detours even when you can already see exactly where you want to go. I generally love exploring game worlds and don't mind large, open areas at all. However, when visible walls restrict me just as much as classic invisible walls, it makes me more passive-aggressive than eager to explore. Especially since exploration is such an important part of Cassette Beasts, some of these barriers feel unnecessarily restrictive.
Conclusion
For me, Cassette Beasts is a great alternative to Pokémon that thankfully doesn't settle for simply copying its familiar formula. What I especially like is that Cassette Beasts manages to develop an identity of its own, making it feel noticeably different despite its obvious inspirations. The stronger focus on exploration and the ability to travel alongside different companions also give the world much more personality. Not every design choice works equally well for me. In particular, the occasionally cumbersome level design and the many visible barriers can slow down what is otherwise a very rewarding sense of exploration. Still, the positives clearly outweigh the negatives for me. If you generally enjoy Pokémon, Cassette Beasts is definitely worth giving a chance.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 22 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,513 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Late to the party, but I can confidently say this is the better than most Pokémon games in almost all aspects that it is almost unfair that this gets compared to Pokémon a lot (and I say this as a Pokémon fan). I love what they did with the typing/element and sticker/moveset systems, which allows for some creative plays. I also love how the developers were able to blend humor seamlessly with the story. Can’t wait for the second game.
super great sound track and very chill vibes with a bit of mystery
Better than Pokemon atm ^^
amazing best game of ever
Good game I like collecting the cassette beasts and finding bootleg cassettes I really like fighting all the captains and becoming one The main story is really good Highly recommend giving it a shot if your considering it's worth it at full price, no excuses to not get it if it's on sale
