Welcome to New Wirral, a remote island inhabited by strange creatures you’ve only dreamed of, nightmares you hopefully haven’t, and a cast of brave folks who use cassette tapes to transform for battle. To find a way home you’ll need to explore every inch of the island, and record monsters to your trusty cassette tapes to gain their abilities!
Faced with the constant threat of monster attacks, the residents of Harbourtown, New Wirral choose to fight fire with fire. Record a monster to tape, then play it back to take on its form for battle!
Getting close to your companion has benefits–while transformed you can combine your strengths to gain the upper hand in battle! Any two monster forms can be fused to produce unique, fully-animated new fusion forms.
Certain monster abilities can be used in human form. You’ll need these to help you get around, solve puzzles, and locate dungeons. Glide, fly, swim, climb, dash, or turn magnetic! Take on the Gauntlet – a never-ending battle mode where you’ll face fearsome enemies for precious material and glory!
Never fight alone! Form bonds, spend time together, and help your selected partner complete personal goals to become a better team. The strength of your relationship determines how well you’re able to fuse!
Take advantage of elemental chemistry to apply extra buffs or debuffs alongside your attack, or even alter your opponent’s elemental type!
Team up with a friend in local multiplayer to explore, transform, and fight together!
Party up with Online Multiplayer to trade monster tapes, challenge your friends to 1v1 battles, and team up to take on powerful Rogue Fusion beasts for great rewards!

genuinely has quickly become one of my favorite games ever!! i love seeing all the designs of the different beasts, and i love the fusion mechanics. i like that the skills are referred to as stickers to match the theme and i rlly enjoy the ability to swap them at will and test out different builds. gameplay aside, the story is wonderful. ive grown so attached to all of the companion characters, i think everyone is written very well, and i like how their signature beasts match them. finally!!!! the music!!! is wonderful!! i am so obsessed, genuinely actually my favorite game soundtrack ever. i always play my games without volume but this one has been he exception. i Adore all of the songs in the soundtrack. in all i def recommend!! but def make sure to check other reviews for critiques. while a lot of the cons other people listed werent things that bothered me personally (hence why i dont mention any of that stuff in my review), i do think its stuff that is good to know and consider!!
Cassette Beasts is a solid and well made take on the classic pokemon styled game. The mechanics are well done and are placed in a unique world setting that wraps it up into a solid game. If you enjoy a creature collector game with leveling you likely will enjoy this game. Pros: -Lots of varied creatures to collect and level. The bootlegs was a great twist to provide variety in the type battler. -Well done infinite but not resource collection -Lots of opportunities for min-maxing or setting up your beasts like you like. -The adjustable difficulty was a nice solution to enable infinite grinding. cons: -Without QoL mods it was quite annoying to navigate the map. It should have been baseline to be able to fast travel to campfires. -There was no way to keep a specific form of a beast without losing the power from it being upgraded. -Some beasts lacked any evolution’s which was a letdown given how interesting some of them were. -The sticker stacking system came a bit late to be useful in my playthrough.

Nostalgia for PKMN fans! My favorite games growing up were BW and BW2 with the story and animations being so good. I recently bought Cassette Beasts on the app store for my phone, something I am looking forward to on long car rides.
Don't let the incorrect low play time reported here fool you, I've sunk a lot of time into this title. Amazing game with a big caveat: DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE AN AMD GPU. There are significant issues with shadow and texture display through the entire game and the developer's only recommendation is to change your display drivers to backdated versions. I also own a Steam Deck, which this seems like an ideal platform for this title, but I would have requested a refund otherwise because it is quite literally unplayable (invisible characters, flashing maps). That being said, I really like the entire vibe of the game and I think projects like this should be supported even on a purely philosophical basis. On a more positive note, this title not only needs a sequel, but I'm hoping that, if one does come out, that save data will be able to be ported. Like most creature capture games, this title suffers from a disappointing post-game, and being able to take bootleg variants into a new title would be a great way to preserve a wonderful collection of digital(analog?) beasts. As an additional note, sound design and OST on this title is amazing, particularly "Like Chimeras". You'll know exactly what I mean once you trigger a fusion and experience the dynamic track shift.
