Warning: Asset Flip! CARNAGE OFFERING is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unreal Marketplace assets, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests. The "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, so this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. In this case, the asset flipper took a bunch of generic zombie/FPS assets and made a very lame arena shooter with them. While there's some elements of original content/design (like a weapons shop and some really crap voice acting), the vast majority of this game is just other people's Unreal Marketplace assets that the developer is trying to get your money for. Plus an INSANE number of paid/fake reviews from the Russian review farm uncovered by Sentinels of the Store. It has no value or merit as a real game. Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at around 1440p, there's no support for the state-of-the-art 4K or higher resolutions. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. CARNAGE OFFERING didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is "Zombie shooter!", for killing an asset flipped zombie, trivial to get, but less than 36 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, even the people who own this game weren't interested in it. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 6 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Warning: Review Manipulation! This game features a HUGE number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product.
This kind of asset flipping isn't harmless. It makes it harder for gamers to find genuinely made games from ethical developers. It makes it harder for genuine indie developers, who put hard work into trying to make real games, to find an audience for their products. It gives indie developers a bad name. So, should you buy this asset flip? Is this better than any of the 100,000+ genuinely made games on Steam? Of course not! CARNAGE OFFERING has the completely unrealistic cash grab price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "7 Days to Die", "Wolfenstein - The New Order" or "Rust". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Unplayable broke asset flip. Sound is constantly jumping and skipping to the point where it's just static stabs. With the sound off, the game is no better. It's horribly optimised, it's somehow 20gb, there's no animations at all, just assets on assets and some terrible AI voices. Every positive review of this game is bot garbage and the easiest way to tell is they all refer to the game in all caps and as if they're promoting it, rather than reviewing it - like: CARNAGE OFFERING is a great FPS set in blah blah blah Please, please, do not buy this game, it's not even playable for the lols
Very positive seems a little high of a rating for this game. Guns feel underpowered, voice acting is wierd, enemies survive multiple headshots. Just another game to sit in my steam library, never to be played again. 4/10
This is a pretty janky indie FPS. There aren't interesting levels at all, each level is just a small arena where enemies spawn until you've killed enough of them to win. The voice acting is.. weird and unpleasant. The shooting doesn't feel great either.
Uuuufff... what a rough "game". All voice acting is done with robotic AI. Weapons don't have animations. Weapons don't feel like they do any impact. Either enemy is alive while you shoot at them, or suddenly dead. Like shooting with some invisible painless bullets. If you want to play an FPS game badly - this game should be on the 300th place on your list. It's just terribly bad. I think all those positive reviews are like hive-mind AI copy pastas. I can't imagine how can you even remotely like something about this thing.
A fast-paced sci-fi FPS where you battle waves of robots and genetically modified creatures. Upgrade your arsenal, utilize explosive physics, and survive relentless combat
A big no from me. I appreciate that this is made by a small developer, but the very first mission was filled with bullet sponge enemies. There is voice acting present. It has a huge range in quality. Some of it is great, some of it is terrible. The animations and movement are too quick, while at the same time feeling stiff and stilted.
Had a blast working with the English voice cast for this one! Game's pretty fun too if you enjoy wave-based shooters with darkly humorous dialogue and heavy metal, too.
The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crosshair isn't even centered.
