I've been playing this game the last couple days and have sadly found myself frustrated rather than wanting more. The items are good and the replayability is there but there are just too many little things that ruin the experience. To cite a few examples of what I'm referring to: There is no indication for which bullets melee attacks can deflect or destroy, most of the shots are red and half the time you can hit them half the time you cant. The hitboxes are a bit off in some places and I find the enemies somewhat hard to see in certain instances. Shooting up and down can occasionally be problematic as the gun switches from your left to right and a lot of the time in tight areas will just end up shooting the wall. The ice level has a neat gimmick where you shoot out the bits of snow to uncover the level, however it seems to break after destroying a certain amount and then will only destroy the texture for the snow and leave the hitbox and collision behind (quitting and then continuing your run can solve this). I really hope the devs can address these issues among others because I really think this game has a lot to offer and hope it gets the chance to show it.
Ugh. So close. This game could be great, but the hit boxes are off and the game's mechanics (everything from what items do to what the hell "scourge" is) are completely hidden from the player. Even after you pick up an item, the only tooltip you may get is, "Do Not Hesistate." Um, ok...I won't...whatever that's supposed to mean. A game like this needs precision and clarity. My sword needs to swing where the image says it swings...not a dozen pixels longer than it shows. An enemy's hotbox needs to be exactly where the enemy's image ends. Thus far (a week after full release), this game is for too inexact for its own genre.
This game is a great addition to your rogue-like collection. You could compare it to games like The Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon. The setting is not outstanding, and the game’s sense of humor is somewhat awkward (it’s a game of a different generation compared to something like Nethack , which subtly ridicules popular fantasy and includes references to all kinds of fantasy literature and folklore—because it was born in a completely different environment.) Action mechanics are essentially just slashing and shooting, though the game tends to prefer shooting as many of the power-ups you collect early in the game only affect your projectiles. Burning Knight maintains a good game-play loop and manages to engage the player; you are likely to sink many hours into this game. It’s overall a very decent action rogue-like. Also I must say about the level of care and engagement the developer has with his community!
Inspired (sometimes a little *too* inspired) by predecessors like Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon, Burning Knight has the core of a good game with a lot to like, but is absolutely ruinously lousy with bugs and design issues. When most itemization decisions are driven by whether or not the build will eventually cause the game to freeze even on a high-end system, something is badly amiss. Visual clarity is a disaster; visual noise is everywhere, the lighting system adds further unclarity, and enemy bullets and effects can be of any color even when they're not completely obscured by overlapping effects. Core mechanics are smooth and functional, except when they aren't; inexplicably getting caught on a wall when attempting to move or dodge parallel to it is a frequent occurrence. Sometimes things just break in inexplicable ways; a player can die to their own pets/orbitals or even their own sword-attacks and never have any idea why it happened that run and not on the others. But worst of all, in the late game when the player's growing pile of passive items starts including enough bullet-multiplying-and-guidance effects, the game becomes completely unstable, dropping frames or freezing for seconds at a time or ultimately becoming completely unresponsive and requiring the game to be closed, forfeiting all currency gained in the run. Petty as it may be, the failure of the final achievement to unlock when attained is my final straw; I can't recommend this game.
Too difficult, too many effects on the screen, it's hard to hit. Game break HDR on my monitor.
en pixel mi bilmem ama çok pixel o kadar pixel ki neyin ne olduğu anlaşılmıyor
A bug-filled mess with future potential
I'm not going to go into great detail other than to point out the current reasons you should not buy. However, I can see that this game is currently undergoing development and I've already seen a patch, so I have reasonable confidence they'll get fixed and I plan to come back and update this review at that time. I like this game enough to do that, but for now I can't deal with the bugs and I have to stop playing. Major, major collision problems. Hitboxes are wack and the collision code is seriously messed up. Sometimes you'll "collide" with something that used-to be there, other times you'll get hit by something that doesn't exist. Sometimes you die from shooting a bomb box from across the room. It's insane, and in a game where health regeneration is incredibly scarce and preserving your meager hit points is essential to surviving. Broken dungeon maze generation. The game will literally generate dungeons that are missing doors, etc. So you can see where you're supposed to go, but you can't go there. I just had a 30 minute run die to this. It has happened more than once. Weird aiming. Instead of shots coming from the center of your character, they come from the gun. The problem is that the gun keeps switching hands on your character depending on where your cursor is, and a lot of your shots don't go where you intend. Players of top-down shooters expect to aim either a little before or a little past an enemy, and expect the shot will travel that path... but because of the handedness of the gun, every shot is at a slight angle meaning lots and lots of frustrating misses. Poorly-conceived items/powerups. Lots of duplicates like the Ice Skate and the Campfire in a Bottle - both provide Ice immunity and nothing else, why two? Many items have descriptions that don't make a lick of sense. Just tell me what an items does, stop trying to speak in riddles Dev and just say in plain English what items do. Give us a menu that works that lets us look at our build. Tons of weapons that mostly do the same things or are so similar they might as well be the same. Distracting, unclear graphics. I like that the graphics are simple and pixel in nature. However enemies are extremely difficult to distinguish from the background. To the point that the Dev has already added an option for "Floor darkness". Instead of letting us change how bright the floor is, the Dev needs to fix the underlying problem that the enemies are not clear, not distinguishable from other graphics, and need some outlines or other reworking. All in all, I actually like this game otherwise I wouldn't have played it enough to discover all the annoyances. If this game never got patched it is definitely a must-miss. Maybe Follow or Wishlist it and watch to see what kind of patches it gets.
Хорошая помесь бульдога с носорогом, для любителей по умирать явно самое то)
I loved games like Binding of Isaac and Nuclear throne. I expected to like this game. I really tried to like this game. It's very messy and hard to keep track of things at times. Hitboxes are off. Sometimes I'm just taking damage for no reason. Very irritating invisible walls... INVISIBLE WALLS??? I got flight and was at the ice caverns or whatever it was called. I kept hitting invisible walls and I lost most of my health by the floating fire dude trying while trying to find my way to the stairs. Oh, I had a full health bar. I had like 5 full hearts. I got hit by some burning thing(?) and went from 100% health to dead. That's pretty fun. Game seems like a mess right now. Needs a lot of fixing.
Too difficult for my taste, which can be present everywhere. This somehow reminds me of an evil twin version of Spelunky. - Items you acquire -> you don't even know what they do. Some seem to have proper descriptions (eg. ice immunity from ice skates), but then there's stuff like the glove with a description of "bonk". - Scourge mechanics = ??? - Everything is learnt by failing -> pretty much nothing is told to the player On top of that the coop is bugged, you need to always add the 2nd player (v1.4) in town in a separate room and can't just have a rerun. Too bad, this could have been a nice experience.
