About
This is the original version of Braid from 2009, which may not work well on newer systems. For an updated version of the game with nicer graphics, more levels and a large amount of developer commentary, see Braid, Anniversary Edition.
Braid is a puzzle-platformer, drawn in a painterly style, where you can manipulate the flow of time in strange and unusual ways. From a house in the city, journey to a series of worlds and solve puzzles to rescue an abducted princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, and it is time's strangeness that creates the puzzles. The time behaviors include: the ability to rewind, objects that are immune to being rewound, time that is tied to space, parallel realities, time dilation, and perhaps more.
Braid treats your time and attention as precious; there is no filler in this game. Every puzzle shows you something new and interesting about the game world.
Key features:
Newly added Steam Cloud support
Save your in-progress game to the cloud, then play where you left off from on any Steam connected computer.
Forgiving yet challenging gameplay:
Braid is a 2-D platform game where you can never die and never lose. Despite this, Braid is challenging — but the challenge is about solving puzzles, rather than forcing you to replay tricky jumps.
Rich puzzle environment:
Travel through a series of worlds searching for puzzle pieces, then solving puzzles by manipulating time: rewinding, creating parallel universes, setting up pockets of dilated time. The gameplay feels fresh and new; the puzzles are meant to inspire new ways of thinking.
Aesthetic design:
A painterly art style and lush, organic soundtrack complement the unique gameplay.
Nonlinear story:
A nonlinear fiction links the various worlds and provides real-world metaphors for your time manipulations; in turn, your time manipulations are projections of the real-world themes into playful "what-if" universes where consequences can be explored.
Nonlinear gameplay:
The game doesn't force you to solve puzzles in order to proceed. If you can't figure something out, just play onward and return to that puzzle later.
Sums Steam only; GOG publishes no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.

Reviews
6/7 - Very good. Puzzles which feel rewarding to complete, and gameplay/story twists which which create very memorable moments, leaving you feeling satisfied. The game holds up despite its age, and its controls which can be a bit finicky at times.

Probably best game ever.

2011, April, 25 Russian translation.
A deep, but somewhat ambiguous, narrative with touches of reality that surpass the fantasy that enters through the eyes. Charming pixel art and gameplay that unravels over time. On the other hand, it's a short, simple, and, in some cases, challenging game. The tools for manipulating the environments and the play of time in each one are very interesting. Regardless of your individual interpretation, Braid is worth experiencing; however, it's not all that great.
Braid was one of the first titles in my childhood after which I realised games are art. It is one of the most unique indie games that popularised and pioneered the genre in a way it is known nowadays. Fantastic soundtrack and visuals complement intricate puzzle gameplay. Some of the puzzles can really blow your mind away, however you can finish the game without solving most hardcore of them. But if you do solve them, there is quite an interesting hidden plot twist in the end of the story. The main mechanic of the game - free time manipulation - is definitely one of a kind. Braid still holds strong all these years after, and it's a must have to play for any self respecting gamer.
Great game, full completion is recommended.
Grandiose.
I played and beat this originally on the xbox 360 when it launched. So a lot of this review is influenced by nostalgia, take with a grain of salt. Braid is a great game, at it's core is a puzzle game. A interesting kind of time manipulation game, back when this came out the ability to immediately reverse time was a pretty novel game mechanic only really use in Prince of Persia otherwise. Giving you the ability to 'undo' mistakes, which is a great tie in to the theme, a person telling a story about a grievous mistake they made which hurt or betrayed someone they love dearly and the extremes they were willing to go to, in an attempt to undo or take back the error. The gameplay here is super solid, simple in premise but complex in execution. What really makes this game so grand though is the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts for sure. This game has a really good art style, fantastic neo classical style sound track and a really deep story with a great twist to it all in the end! It's a story that is very well told for the format it's being presented to you in. There are secrets to find as well and a few very curious solutions that require you to think outside the box, or at least outside the painting ;) IF some how you've never played this and puzzle games are your thing, I cannot recommend this more to you. To be clear there is a little action in this in terms of jumping on enemies to defeat them, but this is by no means an action game. This is a puzzle game without doubt.
