Aside from the unergonomic menus, and the broken ship-editor, there isn't anything offensive with it, but it's so devoid of any depth, what's the point. Enemies spawn randomly (thankfully only from the corners), and only try to bump into you, but up to the furthest level I've bothered reaching, they never evolved their strategy. Around the 10th level, I had equipped only a peashooter and 3 of these green-bullet-things that blow up when they kill an enemy, all this was enough to wipe out any enemies onscreen, and things never escalated as I've reached level 70(!), I just kept on effortlessly racking money and upgrading my weapons. It was literally putting me to sleep. Ironically from the sleep-inducing gameplay, the graphics are as flashy as the Big Bang, I literally had to downgrade my graphic settings to see the enemies better, wth. As I've hinted to, there's a severe lack of polish in the menus, it's like a "at least it works" kind of mentality, and the grid editor for the ship hardly work, wether you use the controller or mouse. There were also a lot of weapons whose use weren't always clear, and if you have loads of weapons on you, the game just can't keep up, it stutters all the time for me now. To put it in other words, it feels like an Xbox Live Arcade game (which it may very well be), it's as if the creator looked at a better arcade twin-shooter, which the subgenre often use that techno neon style as well, and recreated it only without the frantic gameplay. It's only worth a short, hour-long session, I have no desire of going back to it.
Gameplay is very fun, you upgrade your "ship" with more cubes that are each a weapon of your choice. Adding more guns and making yourself bigger might make you stronger but also make it harder for you to dodge enemies or you could upgrade the few guns you have and remain smaller, making the choice is what's fun about it. I kinda like the soundtrack but as other reviews will state, this game visual aggression is real. I do enjoy the gameplay a lot and would recommend it on that front BUT if you are prone to seizures do NOT play this game.
(Got this for free somewhere....probably from a friend...? Well, thanks anyway.)
This isn't the Solid Snake game I had in mind...
WARNING: This game may cause epilepsy. BoxesWithGuns is a top-down arena game that includes flashing lights and music-guided level length. The idea is to build your "ship" (boxes) and to destroy other boxes to gain money to upgrade your boxes with various guns and abilities. Of course, there are a few problems with this concept that led to its downfall. The biggest concern of mine is the lack of a tutorial or anything that would be deemed as helpful in terms of an explanation in showing how things worked. By trial and error, I was able to figure out the menu controls to build, but it really needed some sort of help tab to explain what was needed. This lack of a tutorial would bleed over to the achievements, where you are not told how to get more money, how to buy, how to build, or anything of the sort. The levels seem basic, but when you blow up any box, they basically bleed lights all over the place....flashing lights. It easily gets to the point where you are too blinded to see anything on the screen and may end up losing. Robbing the player of sight with bright flashing lights is something that I cannot forgive in terms of bad game design. Of course, I have contacted the developer, but unfortunately, service for this game has concluded as the developer refuses to work on this project anymore. But at least the music can be decent....I guess....though it does lack variety. That said, do I recommend BoxesWithGuns? Sadly, I do not. The lack of an explanation on anything combined with eyesore lights simply made this game too much for my eyes and patience to handle. Since the development has concluded, there will not be any patches to fix these issues...only buy if you want to torture yourself or if you believe these are issues that will not bother you in the slightest. Achievement hunters beware, achievements seem straight-forward, but the true execution could not be more cryptic or broken. 2/10 A decent idea, but with terrible execution. Did not consider the aesthetic towards its player base.
The only game where I wanted to turn down the graphics settings. Only then it becomes "playable". I do not recommend this game to people with eye problems, epilepsy or any other kind of eye issue,
Caution: Stay away if you have some difficulties with flashing lights. The title summarizes everything about the game. You are a box consist of several cubes and guns. In every level you must destroy small bright cubes to advance to the next level. Between the levels you can improve the guns, or add new cubes to your hero. That is the summary of the game. 2/10.
Terrible low effort trash with garbage gameplay and hideous audiovisuals.
balls hurt
BoxesWithGuns (2014) Avoid this game like the plague... Its an acid trip for your eyes and not in the good or fun way. Got the balls to call one of its achievements "Epilepsie" - this game will cause epilepsy if you are effected by it. The option to tone down on all the flashes and lights basically does nothing and does not help at all. User interface is that of a 7 year old broken toaster that's left in the garage. no manual or anything to indicate what the hell you should be doing. You shoot boxes with your box in space, but your gun is so weak its easy to just die and after that you quit and delete the game, really the best advice I can give. The soundtrack is also quite bad. This game costs a whopping $2 on Steam and speaking of the soundtrack - The soundtrack costs $7 on Amazon... Just take the $9 and buy a better game on Steam. 1/10 In all seriousness - if you suffer from epilepsy DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME
Постройте идеальный куб Вооружите его по мере возможностей Включите первый уровень, продержитесь.
2минуты вроде
Если ваши глаза еще на месте, востановите свой кубик и повторите еще раз. 10/10 уничтожителей ваших глаз и психики.
Not really a bad game, just not really a good one, either. If you like games like this, then it might be worth a whirl, but ultimately you'll likely get bored or get severe eye strain before your first hour is up.
