legendary drops make the game trivial
Mayim Bialik, eww...
Probably the best gunplay in the series. The story isn't amazing, but the gameplay is so much fun that I barely cared. Shooting and looting never got old. The new characters are a lot of fun. Each one feels different, so replaying the game doesn't get boring. The weapons are absolutely ridiculous in the best way possible. Every new gun feels like a surprise, and the combat is addictive from start to finish.

Certified hood classic. this game is really good people say the writing is ♥♥♥♥ but the borderlands writing has always been ♥♥♥♥, its just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ jokes most the time but that's what's so good, just get this game and pretend 4 doesn't exist. the music for this game is amazing, the variety of loot is insane and the guns feel really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good, Fl4k and Zane are the only two memorable characters to play as, i like siren and gunner they're both good classes i just don't think their dialogue or their personalities are as entertaining as Zane the gadget wielding covert operative/mercenary and Fl4k the robot who suddenly acquired self-awareness and a thirst for murder. I really love that sanctuary is a space ship that you can use to travel between different planets with, but even though you can do that the game feels a lot more linear than other the other titles
great game sad it was the last
There's a meme image that gets passed around that is an image of the Borderland 3 .pak files with some of them highlighted saying "Delete these pack files to remove the voice lines from the game and make it playable," and I think this is actually the most accurate representation of BL3. Don't get me wrong, BL2's dialogue and jokes haven't aged great, but there is just something really different about the writing of BL3. It's like they hired new writers and said "Write Borderlands humor" but the writers had only ever played Tales From the Borderlands or something. Speaking of Tales from the Borderlands, I hope you played it, because 2/3 of this game's story is dedicated to characters from it and you will be REALLY confused why the narrative focuses so heavily on these random generic characters if you haven't. Okay, no, but actually, I cannot overstate this enough. The characters from the Tales from The Borderlands game have more screentime then characters from BL 1 and 2. It's actually insane. These characters are the most unfunny, uninteresting, unoriginal, NPCS I've ever had the displeasure of interacting with. I don't care about the Telltale borderlands games. I cannot believe that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MAJOR CHARACTERS FROM BL2 DIE IN THOSE TELLTALE GAMES AND IT ISNT EVEN MENTIONED IN THIS ONE. These characters are, and I'm not exaggerating, 90% of the terrible writing in this game. I wish those games didn't exist so this game could be a better one. At the very least the main villains and new characters still have some bad lines but it's far more tolerable. EDIT: I just finished the story and I'm gonna harp on the writing for another paragraph. It is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TERRIBLE. Beyond the lame jokes, the cringe humor, and all of that. The core story is just so poorly written. Nobody seems to have any motivations beyond "just doing stuff". The calypso twins just want power and its such a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ downgrade. Handsome Jack's entire character was so interesting because you kinda felt bad for him. His motivations were interesting, his tricks were surprising, but made logical sense within the universe. He was fun, unpredictable, slightly sympathetic. That's why he's a legendary villain. The calypso twins, are brash, bold, and the story tells us they're charismatic. They never feel like any of that though. All their tricks and surprises just boil down to "They have the ability to teleport anywhere at any time" and it's such an annoying ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trope. Every "surprise" just involves them teleporting somewhere and doing something. I'm not sure why they didn't just teleport into Sanctuary at the start and kill everyone. The answer is obvious though; it's because the game says so. That's the answer to basically everything in this story. "Why is X person doing this?" because the game says so. Lilith has this hilarious setup where a character yells at her to "start acting like a leader" and that never pays off, and basically every character has zero development in this entire game. Characters from the previous games are so horrifically snubbed that it's offensive. Lilith basically has no personality and acts like an infirm baby. Brick and Mordecai are basically shoved to the side and do literally nothing, they don't even appear on Santcuary. Zer0 appears as if he was only a character in Tales From The borderlands, AXTON AND SALVADOR AREN'T EVEN IN THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GAME, and lastly and the most offensive, Maya
exists solely as a character to kill off in hopes of making us feel the same way we did when Roland died.
It's very clear that the entire writing team for borderlands 2 is gone (besides one person who isnt even the lead writer). The entire story ends up being a glorified fetch quest for vault keys, and EVERY SINGLE plot twist can be seen coming from a mile away. The big plot twist is literally just re-hashing BL2's plot twist and it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. It's cheap and has no emotional weight. Thankfully, besides that you can kinda just tune the writing out and play the game, which im happy to say, is pretty fun. The new movement system feels so natural for borderlands combat. Sliding feels cool, vaulting and ground slams add a lot of verticality to combat arenas that just wasn't possible previously. Class design is still pretty weak, but not any weaker then it was in the previous games. Most skill tree options are just ~stats~ and the ones that are meant to add major effects rarely impact the way you're playing. For example I played Amara as a brawler so I wanted to constantly be in enemy faces. My major skills that weren't just stat increases were: - A passive that reduced the damage of a hit I took after using my action skill - A passive that shot a ball at enemies that attacked me - A passive that auto revived me when I was downed - A passive that gave me more melee damage - A passive that augmented my melee skill to have more range and damage Notice how not a single thing here changes the way I would engage enemies. My entire gameplan is already "Get in enemy faces and melee them" and my skills make that easier but never in an interesting or interactive way. I do think this is an intentional design choice, but not one that I personally agree with. This design choice I think is intentional because your items are what DEFINES borderlands. Guns feel GOOD in this game. The weight and handling of all the guns is done incredibly well while still maintaining the borderlands identity. It does however, strangely, feel like we have less gun variation in this game. Possibly because the e-tech weapons have been removed, but I have a hard time explaining it. It feels like you pick up the same gun with a 0.3 difference in stats every level. The legendaries in this game make this issue even more noticeable, in a span of one level, I kid you not I picked up FOUR of the same legendary revolver. If you open the diamond chest you'll also see what I mean. The diamond chest gives you like ~30 shields, ~30 grenade mods, and ~30 guns to choose from and you get to pick one of each. You will almost immediately notice that there are multiple copies of the same legendary every single time. It really feels like that there are only like 24 legendaries for characters under level 30. It's painfully obvious. I think in my entire ~250 hours of BL2 I only saw the same legendary ONCE. EDIT: Since writing this I have since realized my build was just really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ powerful, most other classes don't feel this way. Most of these criticisms don't really apply outside of the build I did. [strike]There also seems to have been a reduction in enemy health across the board. This is what I'm guessing is an attempt to combat the enemies being "bullet sponges" like they were in the last game, but it had some effects that were very clearly unaccounted for. This in combination with a few other changes has resulted in the game being way easier.[/strike] Gear stats seem to scale way too fast, often a weapon 2 levels higher then another will deal double the damage of the lower level one. The alternate fire mode most guns have is cool, but poorly designed for some of the brands. I'm still not sure why I would want a 5-round burst over a full auto on a DAHL rifle, and Valdof zip-missiles are rarely ever good, but hey it's cool that the option is there. [strike]Elemental effects are just totally ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Enemies die too quickly for dot effects to really start doing damage, and there's not really even a damage penalty for shooting shields or armor with the incorrect damage type, so it's rarely worth even swapping weapons for the RARE occasion you encounter them. I'm still not even sure how radiation works and I don't think I've ever seen the cryo effect proc because things die so quickly.[/strike] Everything applies a dot so incendiary isn't even all that special, but it is still the best because enemies with no shield or a
