About

Book Smugglers is a narrative point and click adventure based on a true, untold story. Set in 19th-century, you play as a member of the underground network of "knygnešiai" — book smugglers risking their lives to preserve a forbidden language under Tsarist rule.

Each mission requires careful planning. Strategically manage your limited supplies, such as food, money, books and other tools. What you carry will determine how you will be able to act. Choose wisely. You won’t be able to bring everything.

Experience the weight of your decisions, because even choosing the same option may bring very different results that can heavily influence your mission. Sometimes you will succeed. Sometimes you will fail. And sometimes, things will take an unexpected turn.

Interact with real figures from history, decode secret messages, and uncover stories hidden by censorship. The narrative is inspired by a resistance so unique, UNESCO recognizes it as world heritage.

What an incredibly clunky game, the story feels stale as well, doesn't reflect the pricing whatsoever.
Great idea to use one of the formative themes of Lithuanian identity. As the game description states, we were in unique position to fight the oppression and ban of our language with the help of book smuggling. The game works a bit like an interactive storybook, offering multiple choices in each step and situation. The possibilities also depend on the different items you have purchased or obtained. Some missions work only as text-based narratives. The game can be used as a good source of information about this epoch, including getting to know important historical figures. What would be helpful is to have more details about the books themselves (there are some mentions like a Lithuanian bible version). And some situations feel too randomised.
I love games based on true events, and this one covers such a unique story! You play as a book smuggler - a really cool role for a nerd like me :D I thoroughly enjoyed diving deep into this world, it was fun.
I've tried this game's demo and honestly I didn't expect much but it hooked me. I am glad that they have released a full game and I can't wait to fully finish it. I genuinely had fun playing it and really liked the story. I also liked how violent choices can be. Sadly I don't know what consequence I will face before I choose an option but I think that brings more curiosity to it, like... it makes me want to replay it again to see what other actions or story I missed. I definitely suggest giving it a try.
Historical click adventure game where books are illegal, and you make choices to manage resources and progress in your effort to preserve literature.
A small indie game from Lithuania, based on real-life events and characters. Play it if you enjoy history. The game is a bit sad — but so is our history.
Gameplay hooked me more than I expected. I liked the events. Enjoyed reading and thinking which next choice to make while art style with music created great atmosphere.
Fun and interesting
Actualy fun game. Perfect if u need something to play in short bursts. You can do a mission in couple minutes. Gameplay is fun, feels like playing a solo board game. Many ways to deal with situation, you get acess to many tools. Some are better for same situation while others give you partial success.
