I've played a fair amount of Contra clones, homages and spiritual successors over the decades and, though I've liked a few of them a lot, I find most of them land kind of flat. But his one isn't one of those. Along with Iron Meat, Blazing Chrome is one of the best in the sub-genre and one of the few that really made me feel like I was playing Contra on the NES or Contra III: Alien Wars on the SNES back in the day.
Jest OK. Tylko OK.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Well made side scrolling shooter that does nothing to break the mold, but nothing wrong either. If you're a fan of the genre you'll likely enjoy it. If not, this is likely to be a bit punishing. The difficulty comes largely from exploiting the directions that are difficult to shoot in, something veterans of the genre are likely used to and newcomers will find frustrating. Still, worth a shot if the previous look up your alley.
TLDR: Old school run 'n' gun action handles well and is challenging but not too difficult if you use continues and learn your boss patterns and stage dangers. Blazing Chrome is a well done Contra-like with switchable weapons, power up gear, a melee attack, prone, and dodge roll available to a starting character. The action is a little more difficult than I typically like. Each of the six missions is typically separated into three stages. If you reach the next stage of a mission, a continue will start you there with a fresh set of lives. For a veteran casual like myself, this brought a nice balance to the difficulty on normal. There were a couple times I thought I might have to come back to a level after taking a break but the gameplay has a good hook to it even when struggling with a level and so I kept at it every time! I finished a first normal playthrough in a little over two hours. There's a nice variety of bosses, there's run 'n' gun action, jump in a mech action, future speed bike action, and a couple really cool pseudo 3D stages--the aerial combat suit stage being a stand out favorite to mix it up. Finish the story mode and you unlock a boss rush mode and two new characters that have their own moveset and offer a fresh take on the arcade gameplay. Sprites and pixel art all look great and can be swapped out for Halloween themed enemy units and containers. Even the bosses seem to get in on the Halloween fun. The old school visuals are a little hard to read when it comes to dangers because the color palette is what it is. I'm also not a big fan of the Battletoads level dangers and that's definitely pushed in one of the missions with a series of pitfalls and hazards to jump over with your bike, some of which reaction time is worthless for without memorization. On both counts, I was able to learn some of the danger patterns and what to look out for to know if something is going to damage me or is just an effect. While some of the level hazards were a bit frustrating, it was manageable and I still had a good time with the game! I think normal is the appropriate starting difficulty, and yet if replaying for fun and trying out the other characters' loadouts, I think easy will be what I go with. I only played the first mission on easy but it didn't seem to dumb down the action and felt good. Recommended for retro action gamers.
Modern take on Contra it's almost perfect just way too difficult
Awesome "not Contra" game. It plays like Contra on SNES.
