5th game in the series. This time it's a bullet hell shoot-em up and the main gimmick is that our hero can only move along f(x) function graph. Or, rather, preset path that sways vertically. It's slow, it's boring, it does the least amount of unique things out of all the games in the series... it really feels like a poor man's shoot-em-up. Rhythm is not really there... Well, enemies deaths get delayed so their primitive beep death noises will play in somewhat sync but there is nothing impressive or anything to set me into trance. If anything, it just makes killing feel worse than in other games of the genre. And... nothing else to write. Some nice boss designs but you can see them all in the store screenshot. You will get better visual, better gameplay and even better music by playing Thunder Force games for your Sega Genesis Mega Drive. It really feels out of place even in this series. Also, dubstep genre sucks, anytime I try to listen to various tracks in this genre the only emotional experience I get is "yea, this is dubstep, this is dubstep brand noises" and they all meld together.
FATE is part of the six game BIT.TRIP collection (not including the spin-off Runner games in that count), which are short games (2 hours or less) with simple premises. They carry a plot that ties all games together, as well as the common element of implementing rhythm-based play into the game. FATE is a 2D shoot 'em up, but you can only move along a pre-set path. Given that all 2D shoot 'em ups are on-rails, FATE constricts your movement even further than the typical one by allowing movement only along a line that strings from the beginning of the stage to the end. It moves up and down, so you can dodge bullets and enemies but only if you move along the pre-set path at the right time. It's odd on paper, but during play it works alright. The challenge comes in dodging bullets among your pre-set path, whilst collecting the pick-ups left by enemies to assist in the boss battle. It's not as punishing as other games in the series, since you can see the bullets coming and there are rarely any surprises. Even if a bullet hits you, all it does is lower your current level (which is increased by killing enemies and getting the pick-ups). Your level plays double duty, as a higher level also increases your outgoing damage. There's also an easy mode in the game, which allows you to level up quickly. It makes passing the game easier, as you level up during boss fights in all modes, but easy mode makes the level-up much quicker. You save yourself from near death with 4 or 5 shots. It's almost close to immortality. FATE is a weird idea, and I won't say its fantastic. But clocking in at only 2 hours with a game that is massively less frustrating than RUNNER, it's refreshing. I'd give it a blow average (4/10), but it didn't leave me disgruntled at the end. So I'll give it a thumbs up, even if its the most lethargic of recommendations.
One of the games in the franchise that is truly breathtaking, especially when it comes to breaking records. For those who played and grew up on the Wii, play it on the PC. The soundtrack is UNFORGETTABLE... especially in the Determination and Patience stages... The game worked really well, the mouse gameplay is great but requires agility, reflexes and a lot of observation due to the difficulty and the flood of enemies! The ending of BIT TRIP FATE is very sad... but I consider it my favorite BIT TRIP in the franchise to this day! I highly recommend it to you.
BIT.TRIP FATE. Oh, where do I begin. Released October 25th, 2010, this game aged really well, and I played this on Wii for hours when I was young. Replaying this a decade later, this is definitely a cleaned up version compared to the Wii. The graphics while simple, have been improved dramatically. The game looks so smoother at 144 hz and very sharp at 1080p. The entire OST slaps, and the controls are tight. However, I do have a few gripes. The game is a little too tough, especially the mid-late game. The first 2 levels are easy, but once you get to Level 3 onward, the difficulty climbs by a lot. The pink bullets, are honestly just cheap. They somehow always manage to sneak a hit in, no matter what you do to avoid them. If you're an achievement hunter, you have to play the higher difficulties, and the game STARTS on Easy. So fair reminder to set the difficulty to Normal before diving into the game. Another problem I have is that after making changes to the options, you have to restart the entire game for the changes to take effect. Overall, the game is plain fun and pretty addicting. If you're looking for a short, fun yet challenging bullet hell shooter, this is the game for you. I recommend it. Graphics: 9/10 Music: 9.5/10 Sound: 7/10 Controls: 9/10 Story: 6/10 Overall: 40.5/50 / 5 = 8.1/10
This is probably my favorite BIT.TRIP game aside from the RUNNER games. It's a simple premise, but can get pretty difficult and keeps you on your toes. The music is amazing as always. My only gripe is that the port to PC wasn't smooth and there's a few issues and bugs to deal with. I'd recommend just playing these games on other hardware and not these ports anyways. But my point still stands, it's a fun bullet-hell and is quite literally an on-rail shooter. Would recommend.
while this may be everyone's lease favorite, due to its unforgivable difficulty scaling despite the BS, i actually enjoyed this one the best out of the series. despite being a platformer enjoyer, bit.trip fate has it's hooks while i cant say for certain in the reviews that it worked or not, all i can say is man; this game sure is hell. dunno how i managed to beat this one as a child with a wii remote and a nunchuck back then!
unfortunately, this brings *MOST* PC players to their end of the series. i really wanted to play bit.trip flux, hopefully someday it receives a patch or a remaster.
