It's a very ugly game. Probably my 2nd least favorite Kairosoft game, next to High Sea Saga DX.
Loved this game from when I was younger and was exstatic to find out it's on Steam too :D Feels good to finally 100% the game without having to worry about any microtransactions.
Beastie Bay DX is a hybrid simulation and monster-collection adventure developed and published by Kairosoft Co., Ltd., bringing together the studio’s signature pixel-art management style with light RPG mechanics and exploration systems. As part of Kairosoft’s “DX” line of premium releases on Steam, this version refines the original mobile title into a complete, standalone experience without free-to-play timers or monetization barriers. What results is a deceptively deep island-building simulation wrapped in charming retro aesthetics and a surprisingly engaging creature-battling framework. The premise begins with your character stranded on an untamed island filled with mysterious creatures known as Beasties. Instead of focusing purely on survival, the game quickly shifts toward expansion and development. You are tasked not only with taming the wild landscape but also with transforming it into a thriving settlement capable of attracting visitors. Exploration and construction operate side by side: venturing into uncharted territory uncovers new resources and monsters, while returning home allows you to convert conquered land into functional infrastructure. This constant back-and-forth between field expeditions and base management forms the core gameplay loop. Combat and exploration are handled through a turn-based system where you deploy a team of Beasties into surrounding regions. Battles emphasize elemental affinities, team synergy, and gradual stat growth rather than fast-paced action. Capturing new creatures expands your tactical options, and training them increases their combat effectiveness. As you clear areas, the fog of war lifts to reveal additional sections of the island, creating a steady sense of progression. While the mechanics are simple compared to dedicated RPGs, the layering of creature recruitment, team composition, and territorial expansion adds satisfying strategic depth. Back at the island hub, Beastie Bay DX transforms into a classic Kairosoft management simulator. Players construct farms, workshops, housing, and attractions that produce resources and generate income. Gold earned from tourism and production feeds back into both development and exploration efforts. Efficient placement of buildings and thoughtful infrastructure planning directly impact productivity, making layout design an important component of long-term success. As your island grows, you unlock new technologies and structures that allow further expansion, creating a satisfying cycle of growth. One of the defining aspects of the DX edition is its pacing. Without intrusive mobile monetization mechanics, progression feels more natural, though it can still require patience. Resource gathering and medal acquisition sometimes slow momentum, especially in the mid-to-late stages when upgrades demand greater investment. However, this gradual climb aligns with Kairosoft’s design philosophy: steady incremental improvement rather than rapid escalation. Players who enjoy watching small beginnings evolve into bustling hubs will likely appreciate this deliberate tempo. Visually, Beastie Bay DX embodies the nostalgic pixel-art style that Kairosoft has become known for. The sprites are colorful and expressive, and the island gradually fills with lively details as development progresses. Beastie designs are whimsical rather than menacing, reinforcing the lighthearted tone. The soundtrack and sound effects are understated but effective, supporting the relaxed simulation atmosphere without distracting from gameplay. Replay value emerges from experimentation. Different building placements, Beastie combinations, and development priorities can shape the island’s trajectory in unique ways. While the core structure remains consistent, the freedom to optimize layouts and team compositions encourages multiple playthroughs for players seeking better efficiency or higher overall rankings. Ultimately, Beastie Bay DX succeeds as a well-balanced blend of simulation and monster management. It does not aim to compete with large-scale city builders or deep tactical RPGs individually; instead, it merges approachable versions of both into a cohesive, charming experience. For players who appreciate incremental progression, strategic planning, and creature collection wrapped in retro pixel presentation, it offers hours of satisfying development. Its strength lies in the harmony between exploration and infrastructure, making the process of building an island paradise as rewarding as conquering the wild terrain that surrounds it. Rating: 7/10

Kairosoft games are a hit or miss—and this one was a miss for me. That doesn’t mean it was bad, just a bit… let’s say overwhelming, for lack of a better word. There’s a city-building element, done in that typical simple Kairosoft style. But on top of that, there’s a Palworld-like mechanic where you catch enemies and make them battle each other. They can level up, use magic, equip gear, and more—it just keeps piling on. It’s a very strange and ambitious mix of ideas. There’s so much to do, and everything takes time. The lack of comfort features or proper management tools makes it all feel a bit clunky to juggle. Overall, if you’re into games like Tamtam, you’ll probably have a good time here too. But for me, it didn’t quite click.

Kind of like collecting pokemon while playing a city builder/farming game. Pretty chill. Fills a niche I enjoy having options in.
Beastie Bay is a solid RPG adventure with memorable world exploration and village building. There is a large variety of discoverable islands and monsters to encounter which is easily the games main best feature. You will cultivate and expand your own island with plenty of charming residents which is another enjoyable great aspect of the game, but the title main shortcoming lies within its battles. While the pixel art designs and monster variety are top notch, the battling is rather bare-bones and leaves a lot to desired. You will go through most battles using basic repeated attack patterns occasionally swapping out to your reserve team, the game would have benefited greatly by introducing a couple more battle moves or mechanics on top of special moves and reserve members. On the plus side the beastiary is a fantastic collection and it is extremely fun hunting down all the monsters to add to your team, making Beastie Bay a quirky and lovable simulation game. Beastie Bay expedites a great 7/10.
