This is not a souls like
I bought this game (like many others I think) thinking that it's going to be a souls like but its not. The combat is more action based, not my cup of tea. I was conflicted on my feelings about this game, so after putting almost 2 hours into it I decided to watch some playthroughs to make up my mind before ultimetely deciding to refund it. To my suprise, I see a guy that put 10 hours into the game and is constantly facing the enemies from the very first location. There is like no enemy variety basically. I also thought that the entire first area looked identical and I couldn't differentiate where I have been already and where I wasn't bcuz everything looked the same. I also will say that this game felt really bland. I felt no emotions while playing it. I don't think this game is worth the money at all. (stop reading if you don't know Stellar Blade lol) I do not own Stellar Blade but I decided to try the demo right after trying BoR and, it felt much better. I don't really get that comparison people are making to this game. BoR just feels soules to me somehow, maybe cuz of the washed colors or the very boring and uninspired enemy design. Idk but the whole game just doesnt feel good. It doesnt feel like anything.

This game needs so much more work- feels super rushed and not polished at all. I was curious about it because I like Sekiro, Stellar Blade, Nier Automata yk those games that Beast of Reincarnation take inspiration from (maybe??) but it fails at everything in my opinion except character design and that alone won't carry a what.... 20h game for almost AAA price? I'm debating if I should refund it or not, waiting for some patch confirmation from GameFreak that would (copium) fix this game before I decide (◞ ‸ ◟)|||| Wait for HUGE sales or just watch some gameplay on youtube if you think all this mess is worth your money and time, from animations to gameplay, from gameplay to music (yes I know where it takes inspiration from but games like nier automata and stellar blade make it in a way it doesn't feels out of place) everything feels rushed (´。_。`) My disappointment is so high and I hate that we got a souls game with the quality of the last 3 pokemon games (pretty much garbage quality), standard GameFreak quality
Pretty good game, even if I do say so myself. The atmosphere is amazing, the OSTs are fantastic, and the story is good—I'm really enjoying it. The combat is pretty solid. The parry timings are very tight, which I like. The MC's sprint speed is very fast, has a lot of mobility , making exploration feel smooth and enjoyable. The game also runs smooth on max graphic settings. I barely noticed any FPS drops throughout my playthrough. CONS : graphics settings keep resetting to default every time I launch the game. You can't remap controls to mouse buttons,(for keyboard players)
I really wish I could recommend this game, I really do. I am not sure I'd recommend buying this even at a deep discount. This game had a lot of potential, a lot of good ideas, but the execution of every single system is just completely broken. The story has a decent setup. It is obviously going for a bit of a Nier vibe, and with some better writing it maybe could have been good. But as it is, it is really bad. The game spends 10 chapters being vague, repeating a lot of vague dialogue over and over again in extremely stilted cutscenes (both in terms of animation and dialogue delivery), then you have one chapter where you just hold forward to walk and open doors while the entire lore of the game is dumped on you. Then right after that you go into the final chapter where even more lore is dumped on you. It becomes extremely tedious. The combat is extremely underwhelming. The game has a variety of weapons and skills for both Emma and Koo but none of it really matters. You just need the sword which has the element that the boss is weak to (all swords have the same base damage, they just differ in the elemental damage they do). If you want. It doesn't really matter cause even without upgrading much, you will easily 2-3 hit bosses with your full combo by the end of the game. That is, if you can get a full combo in since the bosses just hit once or twice, you parry them and then they run away. And then they repeat the same combo and run away. Because each boss has 1 or 2 attack combos at most and that is that. Combat soon loses all sense of strategy and devolves into chasing the boss around, parrying to fill your entanglement gauge, popping it to slow down time and then unleashing your full combo which will, if everything hits including the Finisher, take down roughly 50-60% of boss health. Speaking of bosses, there are 4 or 5 of them in the whole game and you will fight each at least 4 times, alongside the maybe 7 different enemy types in the whole game. The enemy variety is truly abysmal for a game like this. The semi open world is a decent idea, with exploration fuelled by optional mini bosses (just basic enemies with more health) and cookbooks and skillbooks. Cooking would matter, if the bonuses for eating food weren't 0,00...001% stat increases. It feels so pointless collecting recipes and ingredients just to get a meal that gives you a minimal bonus WITH the first time use bonus. After eating a recipe for the first time, there is almost no point eating it again as the bonuses are so inconsequential. The music again tries to go for the Nier vibe but it just doesn't land. It doesn't manage to capture any real emotion, instead it feels very bland and shallow, like it is screaming "FEEL THIS EMOTION" instead of actually making you feel said emotion. The optimization of the game is spectacularly bad and appears to be getting worse with every patch. On release the game worked fine on my rig, stable 30FPS at 1080p medium settings. After the recent patch that introduced DLSS to the game, I now need DLSS on Performance mode to get a stable 30FPS at 1080p low settings. And opening the skill menu brings the FPS down to 15 and making my PC sound like a jet engine. The power of Unreal Engine. I am very negative because I think underneath all the extremely bad and bland content, there is a hint of a good game. I really wanted to find something redeeming in it, something to grasp onto that will make me give that "get at super deep discount" review. But I just can't.
Don't waste your time and money on this game. It is a worse version of stellar blade in my opinion. Gameplay: The beginning of this game is fun for first few hours since everything is fresh and combat is also good. But there is no enemy variety and the same 3-4 bosses are reused which ends up making the best part of this game (combat) feel bland. There is no point in exploring any of the areas as there aren't any real rewards. At most you might get some extra upgrade material but that's about it. During the later half of the game I just stopped exploring all together and just ran it down to the boss so that I could clear the area. There is a food mechanic in the game which feels like an after thought and feels like it has no impact what so ever. Story: The story is so boring. It super slow and has a lot of un-skippable cut scenes. The characters have zero emotions. They just stand still and talk. Not to mention there are parts of the game where you are playing and a character is talking in background which locks you out of doing anything besides walking in circles until they finish speaking.
Ist das Spiel gut? Ja. Würde ich es empfehlen? Aktuell nein. Warum? -> Kein natives 21:9.
To be honest, I was really excited to play this game especially from the trailers. But the game is just not it, in it's current state at least. The introduction to the game was very neat and the skills you get seem really nice on paper, but there are a lot of bugs that I've noticed, from inconsistent camera angles when fighting and clipping through Koo (which might not be a bug at all which is weird in it itself) and getting stuck in various parts of the environment while traversing. Traversal is also not as smooth as you might think or intuitive. Sometimes you have grapple points where there was no need to grapple to. Also this game likes to switch to FSR 1.0 on every reboot, switching out of DLSS for some reason. I'm not sure if this is a me issue or if it's happening for everyone. But make sure to check your graphical settings on reboot. Also, I LOVE story games and a narrative and never skip dialogue, but god is the speed of the dialogue ATROCIOUS here! Why are they talking at a snails pace and like 10 seconds from one line to another? Why are the characters so monotone???
Why the bad reviews? Cause you couldnt catch them all? The game does something new with the vines and pet skills, I really like it so far
