A brilliant cozy management game, with a good story and cute characters.
Bear and Breakfast is a pretty good relaxing, management game, but what is the story. In a peaceful Valley lives a young bear named Hank and his friends, life is pretty simple for this bear helping his mom and his friends, making people happy, gathering ingredients, exploring the woods and have fun, yeah life is/or was pretty simple. But then all that changes when Hank and his friends discover a mascot Shark who tells the young bear and his friends about becoming partners in a business to reopen the old motels throughout the valley and bring humans back to the land before the great fire drove them all away. Hank likes the idea as he wants people back and wants to make people happy, so this bear will do just that as he travels across this little Valley making new friends and improving the lives of many. Okay let’s go into likes, the gameplay is very good basically if you've played other management games like Spiritfarer or others then you'll understand how this game works, build your hotels, decorate them and do little tasks until you're able to hire people to do it for you and keep guests happy, it can be quite relaxing going around, gathering resources, designing and decorating each room that will serve either as bedrooms or bathrooms and other types of rooms, there's even management challenges that can net you awards that can improve your game or sidestory quests that tells you the history of the land. Also there are different busted down attractions like bear statues that you can repair to increase attraction and interest to your place. The story is very good it was heartfelt, touching and can be pretty funny at times and it is especially adorable all made better with a rich and delightful weird cast of anthropomorphic animal characters, I also like the themes of camaraderie, how you can't just do it alone, friendship and even some environmental messages and some spiritual messaging, it was all handled very well. The characters are very good each one has cute designs and little interesting side stories, I like Hank the main character he's both kind of dumb but also very sweet and earnest as he tries to help people and he has plenty of great dialogue that just makes you giggle, but I think my other favorite character has to be Julie the goat she's super adorable and I like the idea of a goat that's also a chef. The graphics are really good with a very pleasing uses of colors, designs and scenery that is cartoonish but also very relaxing and actually very soothing with each area being stunning to look at. The levels are very good each area is quite diverse we have a small desert, to different kinds of forests and a dark grove with each area just begging to be explored when you first arrive. The music is very good with each track that really fits the game quite well and adds to the relaxing charm of the game. Okay let’s go into dislikes, now the game isn't perfect there are some problems like, one it took me a little bit of time to figure out how to get the game to read and recognize my controller, it also takes a little bit of time getting used to playing with a controller, but you can get the basics pretty quickly with time and practice. There’s also some bugs in the game nothing game breaking, except I started the game achievements weren't popping up but there's an easy fix for that. Some of the management challenges can be a bit dumb particularly a few quests in the Pine Valley. The game also kind of do not have an ending IE it abruptly ends, what I mean is that after completing the main story and all the side quests and stuff there's no like ending credits or an epilogue, no it just continues. Also it feels like there is a bigger story like with the spiritual stuff to tell, I don't know, I did read that there was going to be a big update from the creators which was going to add all that, but due to health reasons I believe it's been put on hold hopefully that when that is settled we get a proper ending to the game and an ending to some of the characters stories particularly the sloth and parrot story. Alrighty then with that finally done Bear and Breakfast is a pretty good relaxing, management game, with a very good gameplay, a very good story and very good characters, now it's time to say do I recommend this game, yes I do it's a very good game particularly if you're into management games like this, I do hope though that the update comes and we get a proper ending to the game and the revolution for all the characters.
