I honestly love the concept but I can't recommend the game just yet The weird focus of the devs to push for multiplayer and and a always online world is just dumb It leaves the game feeling directionless and just gives you no reason to actually play it Its like play the game, to get big fleet and do... Nothing, and I can't fathom why you would bother doing that, the combat feels really unimpactful, theirs no cool music, no big alarms its all quiet and dull, shell impacts feel weightless, theirs no urgency, theirs no bang from the guns friring and you spend all your time either attempting to wrestle with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ship control or placing waypoints on a map (yes its space but get this right. Its a game. To be played for FUN). Its just, lame The visuals are a standout and the artstyle is cool however I really wish I got to spend more time seeing them given the need to constantly be managing panels instead of being able to watch the action Also theirs quite a few bugs but as an early acess title they get a pass If they fix the combat and give it an actual campagin I can see this being extremly fun with friends or alone but at the minute its pretty boring
Can't recommend. First one, (BGVR) was fun but a bit frustrating. I hoped that this would be a step up from there. I was wrong. Followed discord for a while and lost my hope. If there's a single developer doing a game like this for a VR platform, focusing on multiplayer game mode was a bad mistake. There's just handful of vr players and not all of them want to play multiplayer mode or if they want, it's probably after a while when they know how to play this game. But for example in my case this single player mode was so unpleasant experience that I lost my interest in this game. Or at least when I saw that instead of focusing on fixing the problems and shortcomings brought up by players, he focused on developing the multiplayer mode.
Battlegroupvr was an absolute gem, and commander ken has done it gain. There are bugs, but keep in mind this dude is practically a solo dev to my understanding and this is early access. That being said the game keeps the core of what made the 1st great and expanded upon it in a way all sequels should. More ships, more weapons(thoigh AA and anti missile lasers seem absent), a deeper economy system and mining. A semi campaign open world solo mode, asynchronous massive map multiplayer, direct combat with your friends, or horde/wave survival, this game gives you so many game modes your usual RTS doesn't, and that's on top of it being in VR. I will say there is a learning curve, for new players I highly recommend the tutorial. The dev is also quite active in the discord and this has clearly been a passion project. He should be proud of what he's made, and I have no doubt he will continue to refine this absolute GEM in a sea of half baked slop VR games. 9/10
Too much micromanagement. Controls are unintuitive. Doesn't feel good to play. Should've refunded it.
Promising bones that could be amazing with additional development. I liked Eternal Starlight and this felt very similar in concept. I like being able to see the fleet and move them around wherever needed. Having an interface to manage ship loadouts and tweak precise formations is very nice. Definitely going to list as a thumbs up for a good foundation. That being said, I do have some criticisms. The controls are difficult to say it nicely. There's a lot to do, a lot to manage, and it's all in your front view at the same time by default, though manually readjusting is possible. The joystick is frustrating and I can't quite work out it's mechanics enough to pilot reliably. Maybe that's my skill issue. Idk. Micromanagement being in the game can be good or bad depending on personal preference. I've played Paradox games, I'm no stranger to crazy amounts of micromanagement, and someone used to the HUD might find this level of customization helpful. My concern is that the casual player would be frustrated and overwhelmed by the options in front of them, especially with the controls making things tricky. I don't wanna end a review by dunking on it. Solo dev work from what I've been reading, so good job bro. Keep it going, you've got a decent start to something here. I can see myself putting a few hours into this.
While this game has some glitches and needs some more work, there is so much potential behind it. I played the first game and loved it, so the fact that they decided to try and go to a even grander scale makes me excited. At this time it is still early access and is lite on content but I still do enjoy what they have and have hope for more.
All the reviews who say "It's too complicated" are really overexaggerating. This is my first real vr game on pc and it wasn't hard to learn the controls. 10/10 game
Best VR space strategy game. it really feels like your in command of a hightech space fleet. i love it cant wait for more updates
I would consider BGVR2 to be a VR showcase. Great polish for a sole/limited dev team, very reactive to bugs and fixes. I think would be a great RTS in its own right, but the VR immersion puts it next level.
i wasnt able to open the game without it crashing immediatly, wish i could play though
