I was captivated by this game's art style, music, character designs, and simple deckbuilding interface. Everything is voiced and the uniqueness of a somewhat personalized adventure. The choices you make in the games aren't so much dialogue based, but dependent on which faction missions and crew missions are completed before story missions plus which crew members are recruited from your rewards. I played this game for a whole week every night because I enjoyed learning about the characters and the good challenge brought by normal mode! Genuinely I resonated with Heathcliff the main character and I won't lie partially wanted the game because I look like him. Despite my praise for this game, I can't help, but feel mislead by the description and trailer. There was no indicator of LGBTQ+ mentioned or tagged when I bought this game and learning halfway through the game with the forced gay romance of Felix, obvious trans/nonbinary analogy of Daciana's sibling, they/them pronouns for the admiral, Heathcliff's gay crew mission, and even Robynn's assumption of "attracting all the guys". There's no option to disable or change romances between characters and it seems like no one is straight. My immersion in the game was shattered and I felt compelled to finish the game after getting halfway through, but skipping some dialogue. At the very least, I feel a disclaimer should be displayed somewhere visible for the consumer to be well informed about the political lean of this game. However, I cannot in good conscience not recommend this game because this game is beautifully and masterfully made with true soul from the creators. Just somewhat disappointed after that harsh crash from my peak.
I got this game bc I was drawn by the visuals, but oh my god I'm so surprised on how hooked this game got me. The combat is so addicting and I truly just can't get enough. And also every character is like hot and gay so thats a major plus. The only downside for me personally is that I am insanely indecisive so everytime I had to make a choice (faction bounties, crew missions) I freeze up and has to log off the game for a fee hours
Great game, easy and quick, but a lot of items to manage to make the cards in your deck your own.
If you liked Battle Chef Brigade or deck builders this is gonna go down great. I was actually hesitant to pick this up because of yet-another-deckbuilder, but it's actually a really interesting take on it. Plus mecha! The style and characters are similar in quality and personality to Battle Chef Brigade, which is an absolute classic. The battles are tense but fair so far, really nails the feeling of facing an overwhelming enemy but then coming out on top. All in all highly recommended!
Absolutely enamored by this game. The voice acting, the writing, the suit designs, the story... I haven't even played that much and I already think it's fantastic. Very polished too. Can't wait to dig deeper!
great deckbuilding game combined with a good scifi visual noval. It is nice to have a mix of both here and the game is fully voice acted. Could not ask for more in this kind of game.
Dang what a hidden little gem, I picked it up on sale, the story wasn't super long but I really got into it. The deckbuilding and combat is very fun and the mods can really give you some options. You can't unlock everything in a playthrough so maybe pick and choose what you want to focus on.
Battle Suit Aces is a strange but really cool card battler with a strong focus on it's story. You follow the members of Patchwork, a ragtag group of heroes trying to find ancient and mythical battle suits, in order to save humanity from the impending invasion of a swarm of hostile aliens. You can immediately tell that this game is a labor of love: The gorgeous art and the sheer volume of competently written dialogue between characters make this game go from an OK-ish card battler to a full blown experience a la Fire Emblem. Don't get me wrong. The card battling aspects of the game are by no means bad. The game manages to give you enough tools, mechanics and challenging enemies to stimulate your deck-crafting itch. But dont go in expecting the depth of a Slay The Spire. But honestly, the game does not need to be another card battler with rules so complex it makes you head hurt. However, this means that this game is mainly geared towards people who want to experience a great story with solid gameplay. If you do not care for wonderfully written characters, this game is not for you. Do you like cool mecha designs? Do you like likeable and growing characters with a fair amount of romance? Do you like card battlers? If you said yes to all of the points, this game is a must-play!
A fun Visual Novel homage to morning cartoons with some fun card-battling mechanics that has a fun and optimistic sci-fi vibe akin to Becky Chambers' novels. The VN part is as standard as they come. It's fully voiced, which is a mixed bag in itself, but most of the performances are good. The art stands out, as it did for these guys' last game, and adds a huge serving of charm to the overall package. Some very endearing characters (Belmont is my guy) and mostly consistently fun and good writing. There are some head-shake-inducing moments where the cast are making some pretty dumb decisions that are more or less fine depending on your buy-in with the style of cartoon it is paying homage to. The card-battling is fun and nicely ramps up the complications and possible combinations as the game goes along. It's not terribly difficult bar some spikes here and there - mostly the boss battles - so more experienced card game players probably want to play on hard (I played on normal). All in all, it's a charming, pretty relaxing game to trot through. There's some potential replayability, depending on how much content you want to complete - as there are a few divergent choices and different crew member missions that I don't believe you can complete all within a single play-through.
