You're on a plank, 80 stories high. Knees shaky, palms sweaty. You have a choice. Do you walk or do you freeze? Richie's Plank is the only VR experience that lets you clone any real-world plank into the virtual world for 2X the immersion.

12,50€ for getting up in an elevator and then "jumping" down with bad graphics. Not worth the money
Originally this game was unique and a fun way to introduce players to VR. More recently the developers have mindlessly ruined the entire experience. The introduction of a nonsense EULA screen that resets every time the headset is removed, breaks the ability to calibrate a real-world plank and makes the entire game useless. I guess this is what happens when clueless developers don't test their own game and are completely out-of-touch with reality. Being forced to page through an EULA in VR is the dumbest thing I've seen in 40 years.
we use this for fear of height experiments in a research environment - very effective
Richie’s Plank Experience, developed and published by Toast Interactive, is a virtual reality (VR) simulation designed to deliver a highly immersive and psychologically engaging experience. Released in 2017, the game has earned widespread acclaim on Steam for its ability to provoke genuine reactions from players, particularly those with a fear of heights. Its appeal lies in its simplicity: rather than relying on complex mechanics or elaborate narratives, the game creates tension and excitement through immersion and the player’s direct interaction with a realistic, high-altitude environment. At the heart of Richie’s Plank Experience is the titular plank challenge. Players find themselves in a skyscraper elevator that ascends to the top floor, where a narrow wooden plank stretches over a dizzying drop. Walking across this plank tests the player’s composure and courage, as the VR simulation triggers a visceral fear response akin to actually being at a great height. The game’s ability to make players physically react—hesitating, wobbling, or even stepping back—is a testament to the immersive power of virtual reality. This core experience is short but impactful, leaving a lasting impression and making it a popular choice for VR demos and social gatherings. Beyond the main plank scenario, Richie’s Plank Experience includes several alternative modes that expand the gameplay variety. The “Fire Deck” mode transforms players into flying firefighters, using rocket-powered hands to extinguish blazes across the city. “Sky Brush” offers a more relaxed, creative experience, allowing players to paint colorful streaks in the sky while soaring above the skyline. For those seeking a thrillier experience, “Nightmare Mode” introduces horror elements such as spiders and unexpected scares, adding a layer of tension and unpredictability. Additionally, the festive “Santa Simulator” mode allows players to fly with reindeer and deliver presents, providing a lighter, whimsical experience within the same mechanics. These modes demonstrate the game’s versatility, offering both adrenaline-pumping challenges and casual, creative play. The game’s design emphasizes accessibility and ease of use. VR controls are intuitive, allowing players to navigate and interact with the environment without extensive instruction. This makes Richie’s Plank Experience suitable for newcomers to virtual reality as well as seasoned players seeking a quick, immersive experience. Its simplicity, however, also limits long-term engagement, as the game is best enjoyed in short bursts rather than extended sessions. The focus is on immediate emotional impact and player reaction rather than deep progression or complex mechanics. Hardware compatibility is another strong point for the game, as it supports a wide range of VR platforms, including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, and Oculus Quest. This broad support ensures that most VR users can access the game without issue, though it does require a clear physical space for safe movement. The spatial awareness and room-scale requirements are essential to fully enjoy the sensation of walking a plank or flying through the city. Overall, Richie’s Plank Experience is a standout VR title that highlights the immersive potential of virtual reality. Its combination of simplicity, psychological impact, and intuitive design creates a memorable experience that can elicit strong emotional reactions in players. While it may not offer the depth or replayability of larger VR games, its strength lies in the intensity of its core experiences and the versatility of its additional modes. For those seeking a brief yet unforgettable VR adventure or aiming to introduce others to the medium, Richie’s Plank Experience provides a compelling, immersive journey that effectively demonstrates the power of virtual reality. Rating: 8/10
This gave my mom a heart attack. Highly recommended.
if you have played a lot of vr before this game is pretty boring. Atleast for me it didnt feel like i was high up at all. The content is also pretty limited. it was fun to fly with the fire extinguishers though it was a very small map for that.
