Such a nostalgic treat. Growing up reading X-men and Marvel comics, Joe Mad was my favorite artist. When I found out years later he created his own comic, Battle Chasers I had to collect them all. Then I saw they were running a Kickstarter for a game of the same name and finally giving the fans what they have been wanting for decades. To finish the comic but also to make it an RPG! In classic turn based fashion inspired by the classic JRPG's that the devs grew up with. I love the game, love the art even more. And who doesn't love Calibretto?!
This game is EXCELLENT. Lore is good. Almost no bugs and none which are game-breaking. No crashes. and it's FUN. I'm on my 2nd playthrough and it's New Game + so it still feels just the right amount of challenging. I would buy a sequel in a heartbeat! Going for 100% achievements.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

TL;DR: Classic JRPG mechanics with Joe Mad art. Love it! A few kinks, but definitely recommended. Pros: + I haven't played a jRPG in around 18 years and this felt like reliving a bit of my early gamer days. + I am a big fan of Joe Mad's art in games. Darksiders FTW! + Grinding - this is the main complaint I've seen, but at least on a regular New Game, it didn't bother me at all. It really felt like a part of the jRPG experience without dragging waaaaaay too long or being that boring (again - for a classic jRPG). + Combat mechanics - for sure they could have been more complex, but they felt just right to me. + Characters - cool and recognizable silhouettes with awesome animations + Game length - just right for my taste. May be one more dungeon would have been OK, but one more zone - no. Cons: - Combat experience can become repetitive as with any jRPG. I wish that there was a way to do run of the mill battles just a bit faster - may be with faster animations. - The story is nothing to write home about - Crafting is kind of boring - Game manual is OK-ish, but I had to experiment and read online about several mechanics to understand them (attack, haste, heal being directly affected by Att stat, etc.) - Installed a mod that lets off-party characters passively gain experience. Sure, I could have carried one or two during dungeon runs, but this helped me get things done faster and just saving time without feeling that I'm cheating. Otherwise this is a decision of the game design that I don't agree with. - Combat logging and overall info is lacking. Even if you see numbers, usually they are not final so you either do calculations in your hear OR you just decide with a margin of possibility/error. - NG+ starts slow and goes slow so I recommend it only for people who want more challenge and are willing to put the time and effort in repeating content just to get the best out the heroes and combat challenges.
Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a turn-based RPG built around dungeon crawling, exploration, and tactical combat. The world is detailed and varied, with dungeons, towns, and hidden treasures to uncover. I had fun with it, but it’s nothing special, just a solid, well-executed RPG that scratches the tactical and loot-driven itch. Its comic-inspired aesthetic adds some personality, but the main draw is the gameplay and the characters you travel with. Also, the game is apparently based on a comic series of the same name, so fans of the source material might find it more appealing. Gameplay Combat is turn-based, using action points to determine what each character can do each turn. It’s deliberate and methodical, with a slower, weightier pace than most turn-based RPGs I’ve played. Some of that can work in your favor, but in practice, it often makes battles feel slower than they need to be. Characters have distinct skills, and the system doesn’t punish poor choices harshly. Dungeons are full of enemies, traps, and loot, keeping exploration rewarding, though the pacing is occasionally interrupted by lengthy encounters. Overall, the gameplay encourages experimentation with skills and team setups, though brute-forcing with a smaller roster is viable if you prefer. Story The game begins with Gully, a young girl wielding her father's magical gauntlets, traveling with your group of companions, Calibretto, Knolan, Garrison and Red Monika. Their journey takes them to the mysterious Crescent Isle. Since I’m not really sure if this game’s story is original or canon with the comics, I’m going try to spoiler tag what I think are the most important parts, as someone who hasn’t read the comics. Major Spoilers Ahead The story unfolds as Gully, Calibretto, Knolan, Garrison, and Red Monika are stranded on Crescent Isle after their airship is shot down. The island draws the attention of factions including
Destra
, an
evil sorceress
aiming to
resurrect the ancient vampire Verus
. Gully's personal quest centers on finding her
missing father, Aramus
, a legendary hero who ventured into the
Grey Line
. While searching for him, the party uncovers the
Titans' relics
, artifacts of immense power left behind by ancient beings. Misuse of these relics could
destabilize the world
, and Gully's inheritance of her father's
gauntlets
ties her directly to this danger. Late in the game a new member joins the party,
Alumon
, a
devil hunter
and marginal member of
The Order
who works alone due to his unique
blood magic
. He intervenes at key moments, offering guidance and warnings, reflecting his personal code and role as a protector against dark forces. The main antagonist,
Destra
, collaborates with
C'dral
, an
ancient demon
seeking revenge after being
betrayed by Verus
. Together, they perform dark rituals to achieve their goals. The party faces numerous trials while uncovering the full extent of the
Titans' relics' potential
and the looming threat to the world. The climax arrives when the party confronts
C'dral
in a final battle and they get a bit more insight about themselves and
Alumon
. After defeating
C'dral
, the immediate threat is neutralized, but the ending hints at unresolved conflicts and potential new dangers, leaving space for future adventures. Side Content Outside of the main dungeons, there’s plenty of optional content to explore. Hidden treasures, secret encounters, and mini-bosses reward exploration, and crafting materials let you upgrade gear and abilities. Side quests provide small character moments and world-building without slowing down the main narrative, offering extra challenges for players who want more than the main story. TL;DR:Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a solid turn-based dungeon crawler with weighty combat, interesting characters, and varied dungeons. It’s slower-paced than other turn-based RPGs, but the exploration, loot, and story make it enjoyable. I had fun with it, but it’s nothing special.
