As FFXIII's number one glazer until the day I die, utterly in love with that game's story, premise and ending I have to say that not only is the sequel a massive step down in almost every regard, but it's also one of the worst PC ports I have ever had the misfortune of subjecting myself to. The fact this is even allowed to be sold on Steam when it's just about functional with the mods to "fix" it is a downright embarrassment for Square Enix and a disservice to the FFXIII trilogy. The fact the store page bills it as "ENHANCED FOR PC" is an absolute sick joke. The story is whatever, it's better than XVI which is my only other frame of reference because I'm not a fan of the franchise as a whole, just XIII (and maybe Lightning Returns if it's better than this). The gameplay is the same as FFXIII but worse thanks to the time travel gimmick meaning you're going to revisit the same biomes over and over again, and as a course-correction to the brainlets who cried that FFXIII was too linear, now this game is open world meandering and my God is it tedious. Sure, you can go back to the Historia Crux at will, but it feels like the devs just did not care: most of the biomes are massive open fields with paradox Chocobos who eat more than usual the amount of Ghysal Greens (food, basically). Well, the genius developers decided that in these areas with the hungrier Chocobo variant, Chocolina, the literal human/chocobo hybrid wouldn't sell Ghysal Greens so have fun running out of them and then walking big empty maps on foot while you're annoyed by nuisance mobs of monsters you can't flee from when they initiate combat. And then, just when the level design looks inspired toward the end, the devs sneak in little gaps in the traversal so you fall and have to go back several stages - just to really cement how much they f*cking hate you. And don't get me started on how f*cking annoying the Moogle is. Is this thing in every FF universe? Kupo this, kupo that, I'm glad they gave me the ability to throw the damn thing because I tried many times to throw that annoying, nasal voiced ♥♥♥-ball into the nearest chasm in the vain hope I'd never see or hear it ever again. The music is great but it's mostly reused from XIII, though it omits "Saber's Edge", the best track from that game. The graphics are really good even in spite of both the game's age and the trash port. The CG cutscenes especially are better than some that we get nowadays. Controls are fine, I played with controller because the quick-time events on Keyboard had some straight up Halo 3 ODST tier paraplegic placements. I liked the monster taming system and my boy Pulse Knight was with me right to the end of the game but the materials are too expensive at vendors and you basically have to farm boring mooks if you want Cait Sith to not die from one attack. Also the final boss has an attack that instakills your entire party with no telegraphing whatsoever and you basically have to fail the first try to then know to do SEN/SEN/SEN as your paradigm for that inevitable attack. The only reason I stuck this out is for closure. I wanted to know what happened next after I beat FFXIII in 2022 and let it marinate, I care about the characters even still and will be going into the third and final game, but for the second act, this damn near made me quite the whole trilogy. I have crashed, I have restarted this game TWICE because it froze while saving, I've gotten stuck after a boss battle and unable to move and forced to restart which then takes me back before the boss battle, and I've had to do it all to stop a man who's such a simp he's going to doom the entire universe and all of time because his fifteen year old girlfriend Yuel (despite him looking and sounding in his 30s) is going to die if he doesn't. FFXIII-2 is a time hopping adventure where you have to stop Jeffrey Epstein from ending time so he can forever goon to his jailbait gf. What a f*cking sh*tshow this was. 6/10 judged on its own merits. 2/10 shouldn't be sold on Steam as far as a rating for the PC port goes. I hope Square Enix go bankrupt in my lifetime. The most charitable thing I can say is it's not a Hollow Knight game. Edit: after 100%'ing it, I will say I like the paradox endings and all the branching timelines. However the game gives you a bunch of gameplay modifiers like 2x speed battles and more rare monster spawns, and it just feels like the game would have been a lot less tedious if these unlocks were options to start the game. Edit 2: The more I think about this game, the more my position stays largely the same BUT, SPOILERS: it's so refreshing to play a game where the villain wins. I think about Caius Ballad a lot, even still. The music is absolutely incredible, even with track reuse from FFXIII, I've been listening to Caius' battle themes in my OST playlist for the past month almost.

Game is borderline a scam, it runs terribly even with the fan patches for me. There is also a chance for the game to completely softlock so good luck if you hadn't made a manual save, i lost a good 8 hours of progress. worst part is the actual game is pretty good once you can actually play it Port: -10000/10
After earning 100% achievements and experiencing everything the game has to offer, I can confidently say that Final Fantasy XIII-2 is one of the most enjoyable JRPGs I've ever played. Compared to its predecessor, the game feels significantly more open and rewarding to explore. The time-travel system encourages curiosity, and hunting down every Fragment became surprisingly addictive. Instead of feeling forced through a straight path, I constantly felt motivated to see what would happen next and what secrets I had missed. The combat system takes everything great about Final Fantasy XIII and refines it. Paradigm Shifts remain fast and strategic, while the monster recruitment system adds a level of customization that kept battles fresh throughout the entire game. The soundtrack is fantastic, the visuals still hold up beautifully, and the overall pacing feels much smoother than XIII. Going for 100% achievements was also a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Unlike many JRPG achievement lists that rely heavily on endless grinding, XIII-2 focuses more on exploration, experimentation, and completing the game's many optional challenges. It took time and dedication, but it rarely felt frustrating. Then there's the story. At first, it feels like an exciting adventure across different eras. Serah and Noel are incredibly likable protagonists, and their journey is filled with memorable moments, mysteries, and hope for a better future. And then the game reaches its ending. Without spoilers, I can only say that few games have ever made me feel the way XIII-2 did. It gave me hope, convinced me everything was finally coming together, and then completely pulled the ground out from under me. I sat through the credits in disbelief, trying to process what had just happened. The more I thought about it afterward, the more I realized how carefully the story had been building toward that conclusion from the very beginning. I loved the combat. I loved the exploration. I loved completing every achievement. I loved the characters. And I will probably never forgive this game for its ending (it's so peak) 100% Achievements Completed. Emotional Damage Also Completed. Really excited to play Lightning Returns
Love this game and its very stupid plot. I can guarantee you will not follow along even and especially if you have played Final Fantasy XIII. Unfortunately don't get the PC release what so ever its terrible and unplayable without extreme amounts of user alterations and work...
There are modding guides on the Steam Community page for this game; one covers all the bits and pieces you need to get it up and running on a modern system. It takes about half an hour to set up. I'm saying this because I did this and had a perfectly functioning game for the entire time I played it. It's worth spending the half an hour to make this happen if XIII-2 has ever interested you. I started with the above because XIII-2 has always interested me - I'm an enjoyer of XIII, whilst accepting of its flaws. It's a good game with fine characters and an interesting premise and world. So the sequel building on that was the core of my interest. XIII-2 is, compared to what came before, a great game. The battle system is a more refined and open version of that which existed in XIII, the monsters are a great addition (one I was sceptical of, but came around on in a major way), the open-ness of the game (especially compared to its predecessor) is available almost immediately. It's probably quite short if you were to just burn through the Main Scenario, but the game almost wants you to do so, because it opens up in its "post game" section way more than most titles in the Final Fantasy franchise have ever had the courage to do. It's a game that requires half an hour of guide following before you even load it up for the first time, that's an unconditional offer if other reviews are anything to go by. But I promise you - the Steam community has you covered on this front. Beyond that though, it's a game that needs another guide to 100% (this was absolutely released when Prima guides were essential for Final Fantasy games), but much more importantly than that, it's a game that wants you to just get involved with it and then decide after the rollercoaster if that guide is something you want to track down and use to keep playing (and, honestly, you probably will). XIII-2 is really good. It's really good if you want to spend 12-15 hours doing its Main Scenario and it's really good if you want to spend 50-60 hours seeing everything it has to offer (and do a whole bunch of grinding).
Good game, install 4gb fix and the HD mod, play it. Has occasional lag spikes
port doesn't work. crashes so many times at the very beginning of the game. just buy it on xbox 360 or ps3 if you have one. i got it for ps3 and works completely fine.
Final Fantasy is one of my favorite games in the franchise and I could replay this game all day long. If you're going to play it though, make sure to follow the fixes in this guide so that you have no issues moving forward. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1165939123
It is My Worst of All Final Fantasy i've ever played. I do Refund, doesn't go well on me, already play with Fan Mods (FF13fix & 4GB Patch) for fixing the Performance Issue. It always have bug in game, and force close.
This game being on the store is a scam and it should be removed. I bought the game last week alongside Lightning returns because I wanted to complete the ff13 series. Started the game, sound issues. Found a fix. Started playing again, crashing constantly, turns out steam saves being on causes it. I turn it off. Still not fixed but was able to play in very short bursts. Use Windows compatibility modes, use the 4GB patch and change other settings, get through the first gate in game which is literally still at the start of the game. Cutscene then a fight with an "invisible" giant which ends with a crash over and over again, no fix or changes seems to get me past this point. By now I've spent way more time trying to fix the game than actually playing it. I gave up trying to fix a not fit for purpose, broken game. Refunded lightning returns and tried to refund this game too. They refuse to refund this game on the basis that I've "played" more than two hours. So yeah, if you want to get scammed by Steam then buy this game.
