Your journey begins as all great cRPG tales once did: quietly, within the walls of home, before fate tears everything open.
Forced from the safety of Candlekeep under mysterious circumstances, you’re thrust into a conflict that threatens to ignite the Sword Coast. Your world has always been limited to the fortress library’s ancient halls, where your foster father, Gorion, worked tirelessly to shield you from dangers you never understood.
All of that is about to change, setting you on the path that made Baldur’s Gate a legend.

TLDR; Baldur's Gate 1 is a Bad Dungeon Master running an Amazing Campaign I really love this game I really do but I cannot in good faith recommend it to anyone. Years of good CRPG design that has fixed this game's every issue has not been implemented into this Remaster instead giving new players a ♥♥♥♥ It mode that instead encourages them not to engage with the mechanics but ignore them entirely. The Truth is that Beamdog could've made Baldur's Gate a CRPG worth playing in Current Year but chose not to, the following are flaws that you should expect going into this game. - Very Little Voice Acting for the base game even though copious VA exists for the new content - Status effects and Spells with no counter made obvious to the player - RNG Hell - A Terrible Death System that requires hours of travel and inventory management to revive characters - Terrible Inventory management and no Stash to store items in - No Indicator of Spell Area leading to Heavy Friendly Fire - Classes that are terrible and not indicated as Challenge Mode Classes (Thief and Monk) - Almost no Gay romances or romances for Non-Human Characters. Some might claim that all of these issues exist to be Faithful to the DnD rules however any DM (such as myself) will tell you that these rules can only function if they are interpreted and applied carefully by a Dungeon Master who has the responsibility to adjust the rules to ensure their players have fun. Good Video game design requires this same process and while the Med Students who made BG1 in their free time back in 1997 get a pass Beamdog does not. Dragon Age, Fallout and Pillars of Eternity Exist and they should have been learned from and the game needs to be updated if its going to be sold and supported in modern day.
Classic!
its baldurs gate. I started with baldurs gate 3 and this though not so grpahically inclined plays basically the same. if you like bg3 you will like this.
