About
“Shadows is some of the most fun I’ve had with a stealth game in a decade” —PC Gamer
Play as Naoe, a quick-witted shinobi, and use light, sound, and shadows to evade detection. Infiltrate enemy strongholds with many parkour options including the new grappling hook, distract guards with shuriken or smoke bombs, and assassinate your targets with your Hidden Blade. As the samurai Yasuke, use silent bow takedowns or unleash devastating melee combos with your katana or naginata.
Switch between these two heroes to adapt your strategy and experience feudal Japan through two radically different approaches – stealth and strength, shadows and steel.

6/10 - A Safe AC Entry Buy on a deep sale 60% or more. I think I was expecting too much from this AC entry, especially since I've been waiting years for a Japan setting in this franchise. For some reason, it just never really gripped me. The story is uninspired, which isn't exactly uncommon for Assassin's Creed. But I wish they had taken more risks with it. You have two protagonists who each specialize in different gameplay styles. One leans into classic Assassin's Creed stealth, while the other is much more aggressive and combat-focused. Unfortunately, neither of them are particularly likable, charismatic, or compelling, and I never connected with either character. The world-building is really well done. As usual, Ubisoft does a great job representing cultures in a way that feels authentic and immersive. The environments are beautiful, and I really liked the seasonal system. Watching the world change adds a nice touch to exploration. And I did like some of the side activities such as the Kuji Kiri meditation sequences, it was new and kinda relaxing. The map, however, feels incredibly bloated more so than previous entries. I also wasn't a fan of how forts work this time around. The forts I cleared would eventually reset, and since they double as fast travel points, you often have to sprint out with an army of enemies chasing you just to use them. On top of that, there are endless procedurally generated quests that don't feel meaningful and rarely offer worthwhile rewards. Exploration eventually became overwhelming instead of exciting. Not sure how I like the scout system to reveal locations on the map, I turned it off eventually. I am glad that was an option. I did like the hideout, I am not sure I used it to its fullest potential but I liked decorating, building and placing all my cats/dogs and other fluffy critters on the land. But not everything in the game is negative. I know I have been ragging on it for a while but the gameplay is solid. I enjoyed switching between two combat styles, and the stealth is probably some of the best the series has had. I also appreciate that Ubisoft included an option for guaranteed assassinations, letting players choose between upgrading your skills to get them or the classic one hit assassination style. Overall, Assassin's Creed Shadows feels like a safe entry. It doesn't do much wrong, but it also doesn't do much that stands out. Outside of the excellent world design and improved stealth, it never really gave me a reason to really be invested. Pros: - Beautiful world with excellent environmental detail. - Strong cultural representation and immersive atmosphere. - Seasonal system adds variety to the world. - Stealth is among the best in the series. - Two playstyles keep combat fresh. - You can pet all the cats, and the dogs. Neutral: - Two playable protagonists will appeal to some players more than others. - Story follows the familiar Assassin's Creed formula. - Large open world if you enjoy spending dozens of hours exploring. Cons: - Weak, forgettable story. - Neither protagonist felt particularly memorable. - Bloated map with too much repetitive content. - Resetting forts make clearing areas feel less rewarding. - Exploration becomes exhausting rather than rewarding. TLDR, it is a safe AC game, if you like the previous RPG style ones since Origins this is more of that and you can get many hours of gameplay out of this game. Honestly, buy this on a deep sale. 60% or more.
