About

Home to the world's greatest minds, GATE operates a global network of secretive research laboratories, spanning every field of scientific study - and the realms beyond.
As a GATE employee you extend the bounds of human knowledge, and seek to explain the unexplainable - including anomalies and paranormal entities: from gravity-distorting artifacts to supernatural creatures with an unbridled instinct for violence. Safety, security, and secrecy are of the utmost importance… usually.
After a catastrophic containment breach, your workplace has become a cosmic battle zone: anomalous entities are on the loose, enemies from other dimensions are invading via portals, and an arcane military sect - known as The Order - is targeting personnel and entities indiscriminately, aiming to seize artifacts and put an end to the chaos.
Containment procedures have failed and help isn’t on the way. Stranded miles beneath the surface, it’s up to you and your fellow scientists to band together, plan your escape, and make this underground complex your new home - for now.

Abiotic Factor brings a 90’s sci-fi twist and rich character progression to the multiplayer open world survival crafting genre. Up to 6 players can choose their PhDs, build their scientist, gear up, and explore a massive subterranean complex, filled with supernatural artifacts, transdimensional foes, and science experiments gone awry.

Between alien threats hunting their next meal, trigger happy soldiers, and the world’s most advanced robotic security forces attacking personnel working overtime, there’s no shortage of danger. As a scientist, fighting isn’t your forte, so you’ll need to put your PhD to work to outwit your opponents: craft ingenious and outlandish tools, weapons and gear, from simple nets and wooden bats to laser-cannons and elaborate traps - everything your big science brain can muster!

Make yourself at home - you’re here for the long haul. Scavenge resources from vacant offices and empty labs, raid vending machines, and steal company property to build a new base of operations as you explore the facility. When it’s time for a change of scenery, pack up your belongings and move them across the facility using handcarts, forklifts, SUVs, teleporters, and more.

Don your lab coat and earn your PhD: from Phytogenetic Botanist to Defense Analyst and Archotechnic Consultant (and many, many more), each with its own advantages essential to survival. Combine traits and skills, then level up to earn perks and abilities with your fellow scientists to forge a formidable scientific force.

Working at GATE may have been a dream job, but dying here wasn’t part of your five year plan. Explore this massive underground facility as well as many worlds beyond and take full advantage of the most advanced technology unknown to mankind in this interdimensional sci-fi adventure!

I played through this game on PS5 last winter while my dog was suffering from cancer. The playstation was my friend at the time because it meant I could snuggle with him on the couch and build memories with the limited time we had left. This game makes me think of him now. I miss him so much, but I am glad I got to experience this game with him, and that every time I play through it I think of him. Here is for my next playthrough on PC. Miss ya Ralphie.
This game permanently broke my perspective on open world survival craft games. the bar is now higher than everything else now. If you want a game that is visibly a labor of love, with mechanics and design that will feel modern and retro at once, as well as a really rewarding grind progression with carefully thought-out project zomboid or Rune scape stylish skill system, this is it. It is perfect for friend group or duo, some go out exploring for resources, other focus on cooking, crafting and base building. Worth the price in my opinion, no item in this game is useless, every component has multiple crafting purposes for it. Replayability potential is massive for this game, like different base location and character builds. Easy example of gamers-for-gamers developer behaviour. For example if you die, the bag with your leftover items doesn't spawn right where you died (If you were accidently jump in void or places you shouldn't be), but at the nearest easily accessible spot on the map, as if certain areas of the game were excluded from death bag spawn. After returning nearly year leter the newest dark energy and cosmic companions update, the content we have been provided with is absolutely massive, at least 15 to 25 more hours of gameplay to fully take on the new maps and items. developers keep adding quality of life items that are commonly requested. And very good example is the little updates that make the world more interesting and many more things to do and it's all for free. There is dlc's but not all of it and that is big green flag for me.
Went out of my way to get every achievement, which isn't something I do often. This game is partially inspired by Project Zomboid, which itself is inspired by Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. They then mixed it with half-life 1 aesthetics into a linear adventure game with survival elements. You start by choosing a Job and extra perks; fans of the above games mentioned will understand immediately. after that, you level by doing. Carrying more, sprinting longer, melee, ranged, cooking, building, etc. Food and water are simple affairs, but you can choose to increase the complexity for better gains. Good food and soups will provide buffs in addition to their nutritious benefits, but if you wanna caveman through the game, just cook up some meat, fill your rubbermaid inspired juice box, and go. Base building is similar. The first suggested base location could serve you through the whole game, not needing another thanks to the generous shortcut system. If you do decide to really dig your teeth in, you'll find yourself thinking very differently depending on what that particular spot is working with. more manual power? different kinds of defenses? natural storage? Sadly, building walls and the like itself is limited. You can't really build multiple floors to my knowledge. You can separate rooms with the cubicle system, add shelves and wall mounted things, though. The game has horror elements, but only one spot ended up being a bit much for me. I am a ♥♥♥♥♥ though.
Dark waters with unique heartbeat and sonar sounds, and a thing that can kill you?
It's a bit much all together. I would have liked a way to increase visibility at least. No other area made me want to leave as quickly as I entered. Another issue I had, lack of end-game side-grades, seems to have been addressed. I haven't played around with them yet, but outside of the final gear item you wear, I have seen how much it has expanded. I can't speak on the new pet system or chemistry, so I shall refrain. they seem cool though. Well, you can see my playtime. I bought it at a cheaper price in early access, so this does affect my opinion, but I feel I got my money's worth. I look forward to the DLC expansion that's coming up soon.
it starts out really cool and fun, but once you get to security the game just starts to become a gigantic confusing labyrinth and its hard to figure out what you're supposed to do and where you're supposed to go with the extremely poor maps provided in game, add on top the constant threat of being randomly killed by a jumpscare aliens and weather events that make you half blind it becomes a frustrating experience
I'm gonna leave a negative review which I will probably change ot positive later on, if the positive/negative percentage balances more to what I believe it should be. The first half of the game is filled with rewarding exploration and item crafts, while figuring the mechanics and experiencing lots of OH OKAY moments, bombing you with cool references to other videogames and movies. Basebuilding and rpg stat progression coupled with creative items as rewards keeps you hooked. However the game's quality drops immensely at security/dam. Notice that all of the negative review are players with 30, 50 even 100 + hours. If you don't believe me, see for yourself and find the last bossfight on youtube, it's not much of a spoiler, lol, it's not even cohesive with the rest of ABF. I still recommend the game up until dam. However, the bad segments(reactor, residences) are still a part, and they stick and they leave a bad taste in your mouth. They are not optional experiences, so I don't believe that the game should be at almost 100% positive reviews. That tells people it's a perfect game through and through, which frankly it is not.

Really surprised at the depth of this game it truly is a giant facility that honestly feels like it could be a real place if you believe in massive subterranean research facilities researching portal riffs in reality. Perfect mix of silly cartoonish exploits and serious, atmospheric undertones, reminds me of Courage The Cowardly Dog. Play this solo first time to truly get the best experience at least for a couple hours. The only downfall is it is a crafting game so expect to be stalled out on progression until you farm X item(s) to make the next doohickey that'll unlock the next area. Truly feel like this is a sleeper classic that'll be a must to experience.
I'd say a pretty good game overall, though there are a handful of issues I had with the game. One of the issues is weapons balancing, heavy weapons often feel vastly more powerful than non-heavy weapons. Even with the stamina penalty I found that in the vast majority of circumstances the heavy weapon outclassed those outside of it's classification, this is not to say I think it should be nerfed heavily but instead for them to be moderately nerfed and making the non-heavy weapons more viable as any time I would try to use a weapon outside of heavy it would feel like hitting enemies with comparably nothing. My second issue is gun balancing, while not terribly balanced stat-wise, the ammo economy sucked. I found myself chewing through all ammo types if I remotely tried to rely on them as anything besides a backup finisher, ESPECIALLY THE 5.56 which you go through so easily that I basically ran out of all of it on the way to the final boss of which I never touched that ammo stockpile the entire game. The devs should really increase the yield of dropped ammo, though the .308's ammo should be increased less than the others. My third gripe is the farming of specific resources, such as, night essence, the CPU's, silver, optic lens, magnetic alloy (ESPECIALLY THIS ONE), additionally I feel like the player should have hints that CPU's and power cells are something to stockpile. My fourth issue which w\is more of a wish I suppose, more interactions with IS objects as usable items and a few more gimmicky IS enemies since it feels like we mostly just get Anteverse 2 for IS enemies. My fifth issue is meat being as radioactive as it is, while I understand it's from species adapted to a universe of high energy, it's kind of annoying just trying to get food when the radiation compounds as it does when it's generally something you should be gathering, doesn't need to be removed just I think the compounding radiation should be reduced a bit. My final issue is I feel like the portals are a bit underutilized since for the most part we're only sent to three Anteverses with meaningful content beyond "well isn't this neat". This is probably the best survival game I've played so far, it does quite a good job with exploration and progression. With the game laying portals to other locations and other universes here and there which are pretty consistently neat and with different visual themes, of which I believe the designers did a very good job with. The regions of the Gate facility are designed to be explored as an area while the portal locations are designed with a more of an A to B style, that's not to say it's just a hallway but there's still clearly a intended path for the player to take compared to the departments. Compared to the other survival games the story has more focus and active escalation, as well as having comparably more details than the others I've played, of which I quite enjoyed (Justice for Hasta Tria). At the same time I would say that a fair share of the characters are rather flat and a rather annoying character, such as the ammo merchant who's voice lines started to get to me over the course of the game, "I can't give this to you for free you know, wish I could." I was just checking if your inventory refreshed and you have to punctuate half of your lines with sighs, but your existence benefits my ammo stockpile. I almost forgot, some of the skills in the game have somewhat abysmal gains that it was annoying to even try to specialize in them, like what's going on with throwing. Overall the game is rather good, I would recommend this in general, especially in comparison to the others.
