About
“Shadows is some of the most fun I’ve had with a stealth game in a decade” —PC Gamer
Play as Naoe, a quick-witted shinobi, and use light, sound, and shadows to evade detection. Infiltrate enemy strongholds with many parkour options including the new grappling hook, distract guards with shuriken or smoke bombs, and assassinate your targets with your Hidden Blade. As the samurai Yasuke, use silent bow takedowns or unleash devastating melee combos with your katana or naginata.
Switch between these two heroes to adapt your strategy and experience feudal Japan through two radically different approaches – stealth and strength, shadows and steel.

good
I'm happy I waited this game out, overall the game was pretty solid. I enjoyed the beautiful open world, some of the cutscenes, and missions. It had it's moments of being dull though. The beginning was rough not going to lie, I was hooked with Yasuke's story and Naoe's too. I had wish the ending wasn't a cliffhanger. I give it a solid 7.5/10.

After playing the game throughout the past year on and off up until this supposed Final Update. Over 400 hours playing on New Game and New Game+ through the base game and DLC. I can safely say that Assassin's Creed Shadows is among my most favorite AC games and may as well be among my most favorite games overall. In my opinion, the most outstanding aspects of Assassin's Creed Shadows is its visuals and gameplay, When it comes to the visuals the game looks stunning at almost all times that has constantly kept me at a pause just to admire the scenery of the game. This is because of the new improvements to graphics pipeline Ubisoft introduced to the engine with 4 major elements to it, being a full RTGI lighting system that gives the game realistic lighting, Micropolygon rendering that reduces popins and keep the visuals consistent regardless of how far objects are in the distance, a new wind physics system that simulates the wind breeze in the game, giving the world and its weathers an extra living touch to it and finally, the new destructible object system that makes the world more interactable. All of those elements combine to give the game's one of the best visuals in gaming at the moment that also looks alive. As for the gameplay, both combat and stealth is the best it has ever been for the entire AC franchise. Two major additions to the standard AC stealth in Shadows is the ability to go prone and being able to hide in the shadows, adding extra layers to its stealth gameplay. the stealth system itself also feels fair after coming off of AC Valhalla and Odyssey. The stealth gameplay is generally focused on the Castles found in the game which has its level design heavily tuned for parkour and stealth, truly giving you the Shinobi Fantasy of infiltrating an enemy castle. There are also difficulty settings you can choose for both stealth and combat, when it comes to stealth you can choose to have it be at a forgiving or normal difficulty which lets you easily achieve your stealthy gameplay. But if you are looking for something harder then you may want to play on Expert or Nightmare difficulty, as enemies in this difficulty will have much better vision, better noise hearing, and near instant detection times. - Note that playing on Nightmare difficulty will disable the Guaranteed Assassination mechanic which to me personally is a really fun mechanic where enemies can deny you assassinations. The combat gameplay may feel weak at the beginning where your options are limited. I also felt this when playing the game at early levels. However, as you progress through the game and start to unlock multiple legendary equipment which has unique perks and also unlocking new skills through the mastery skill tree and also knowledge tree. The combat dynamics will change greatly and enables the power fantasy of being able to take down entire armies even when playing as Naoe. This combat expansion feel is why I kept coming back to the game simply because Endgame buildcrafting was just really fun to experiment on. Like with the Stealth difficulty options, Combat gameplay also has difficulty option where Forgiving and Normal difficulty is fun enough to play and gives you a power fantasy. Nightmare difficulty on the other hand will have you approach the combat a bit differently because enemies will not just let you simply hit, they will block and parry your attacks and will also dodge your abilities if you just use it haphazardly. In Nightmare difficulty you have to create attack opportunity in order to be able to defeat your enemies effectively. On a slightly less interesting aspects. It would be the game's Parkour system and the World design which is tied together. I personally like Shadow's Parkour system, but the world design doesn't allow it to truly shine due to small city design and somewhat lack of smooth parkour paths, constantly forcing you to stop or drop down from the rooftop onto the ground. I believe that if Shadows's parkour system was paired with a more dense city design it would feel a lot better. At least this parkour system gets to shine while infiltrating enemy castles. The story isn't the best due to the non-linear storytelling structure which makes each main quest of the story feel disconnected from overall narrative. I don't personally have much opinion to talk about the story of the game since I lean more toward gameplay enjoyment, But I do feel the game could have done better with its story if it was more linear. Overall, The breathtaking visuals of this Feudal Japan paired with its satisfying gameplay is what kept me coming back to this game for over 400 hours and I will be back for more if Ubisoft decides to support this game further.
