Genre
Ein Klassisches Murder Mystery Detektiv Point & Click Adventure
Story
3/10 It's like a couple of 17 year old wrote this game.... I can't really recommend this game, even for a point n click fanatic. This game is clearly made by someone that don't know English. I'm surprised the voice actors didn't try to correct the dialog. There are so many things that I can criticize.... For example: you can't put fuel on lighter "this is just stupid" (she says something similar). But put lighter on fuel.... aaah the lighter is full now... I'm not going to waste more time talking about this garbage. I got this game for less than a dollar..... it's not even worth playing for free.
kusursuz cinayet yoktur!!!
I want to say yes play this game, especially if you are a fan of point and click mystery games such as Nancy Drew. Sadly, I hit a major bug in the game where a slot machine, that is necessary to win to continue the game, will not pay out even when i have wont multiple times. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and replayed part to get back to this point and it still is bugged. Sadly this means I cannot finish the game and therefore cannot properly recommend it it anyone. Makes me very sad.
Well, somehow that part didn't quite convince me; it was rather mediocre, and the sound just cut out every now and then... I can just barely recommend it.
"Art of Murder - Hunt for the Puppeteer" is an ancient game from 2009. It's a whopping 15 years old at the time of this review (although it feels much older). The game lacks support for the typical features of modern gaming PCs, hasn't been modernised or updated to run smoothly on contemporary machines. The game looks and feels dated. Despite this lack of modernisation, it carries a pretty high price tag for such an old game. This seems to have be lingering on Steam with an inflated price to try profit from abandonware. It's a point and click adventure game that tries to prove the US FBI has jurisdiction in France (it doesn't) and has you off solving some charming French murder mystery in the old 3D fixed perspective "Alone in the Dark" style viewpoint, and while that beats mostly static 2D imagery that most point and click adventures have, it doesn't change the core gameplay in any meaningful way, and the age of the game means the visuals aren't up to scratch anyway... this looks old and dated. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio, due to the age of the game, it predates the 16:9 widescreen gaming standard established back in 2006. It's possible they're marketing this towards people using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game is being specifically marketed towards people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. It's obviously not going to look right on a modern 16:9 gaming display. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "Art of Murder - Hunt for the Puppeteer" is relatively expensive for an abandonware nostalgia gouge, at $5 USD, and it's not worth it. The game is just too old, hasn't been modernised. And as the old saying goes, you can't go home again. Even when it was new, this was never a triple-A game. This is the kind of game that went almost directly from the warehouse into the cheap bargain bins at the front of the shop. Now, on Steam, without any modernisation? This is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $5 asking price for this game could get you games like "DOOM", "Far Cry 3" or "Warhammer: Vermintide 2". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.

Art of Murder: Hunt for the Puppeteer, developed and published by City Interactive S.A., is a traditional point-and-click adventure game that aims to deliver a dark and atmospheric murder mystery in the style of classic detective fiction. It continues the story of FBI agent Nicole Bonnet, who returns to investigate a string of bizarre and gruesome murders that stretch from the streets of New Orleans to the historic districts of Paris and beyond. The victims are all found posed like marionettes, with small handcrafted dolls left as macabre signatures at each crime scene. This chilling concept immediately sets a tone of intrigue and suspense, promising a deep psychological thriller wrapped in old-fashioned investigative gameplay. Unfortunately, while the game succeeds in atmosphere and presentation, its narrative pacing, puzzle design, and character development often struggle to rise above mediocrity. From a visual standpoint, Hunt for the Puppeteer stands out as one of City Interactive’s better-looking titles. The pre-rendered environments are rich in detail, with a realistic sense of depth and texture that effectively immerses the player in its globe-trotting mystery. Parisian streets gleam with wet cobblestones after a rainstorm, old mansions echo with ominous creaks, and the shadows cast by flickering lights add to the tension of each investigation. The developers clearly invested in building convincing settings, and the result is a series of atmospheric backdrops that make exploration enjoyable even when the gameplay itself falters. The cutscenes, too, are handled with cinematic flair, complete with well-chosen camera angles and moody music that captures the tone of a dark European crime drama. It’s a game that looks and sounds the part of a serious detective story, even when the writing doesn’t always live up to the presentation. The narrative follows Nicole as she pursues leads that gradually reveal a larger conspiracy connected to the killings. On paper, it’s a compelling setup—an intelligent investigator unraveling a web of secrets tied to both modern crimes and ancient rituals. In execution, however, the storytelling can feel uneven. The dialogue often lacks the nuance needed to make the characters feel authentic, and many exchanges come across as stiff or mechanical. Nicole herself, while likable, doesn’t exhibit much emotional range, which makes it harder for players to connect with her as the story grows more personal. Supporting characters appear briefly, serve their purpose, and vanish without much depth or memorability. The pacing also suffers from inconsistency, alternating between moments of genuine tension and stretches of slow, mechanical progression that dilute the impact of the mystery. Despite these shortcomings, the central premise—the idea of a killer who sees murder as a grotesque art form—retains its intrigue and keeps players motivated to see the investigation through to its conclusion. In terms of gameplay, Art of Murder: Hunt for the Puppeteer adheres closely to the conventions of the point-and-click genre. Players explore detailed scenes, collect objects, combine them in creative ways, and use them to solve environmental puzzles. Each location hides clues and interactive elements that must be pieced together to progress. While this formula will be familiar to fans of classic adventure games, its execution here is hit-and-miss. Some puzzles are clever and logical, giving a satisfying sense of discovery when solved, but others rely too heavily on obscure item combinations or arbitrary trigger points. On several occasions, progression halts simply because a single pixel-sized object hasn’t been clicked, or because the game expects a sequence of actions that feels unintuitive. These design choices can lead to frustration, especially since the game offers little in the way of hints or feedback. The linearity is also restrictive—players cannot move on until every objective in a scene has been completed, which makes the experience feel scripted rather than organic. Where the game does manage to shine is in its atmosphere and sound design. The soundtrack blends orchestral swells with subdued, suspenseful tones that build tension without overwhelming the player. Environmental sounds—creaking wood, distant thunder, footsteps on marble floors—add realism to the experience. The voice acting, while uneven, at least tries to imbue the dialogue with personality, and Nicole’s calm but determined demeanor helps anchor the story. Combined with the visual presentation, these elements create a world that feels tangible and alive, even if the narrative within it doesn’t always match that quality. The game captures the lonely, methodical rhythm of investigation—the long nights spent studying clues, the eerie quiet of abandoned places, and the unsettling sense of being stalked by an unseen presence. Unfortunately, the weaknesses in writing and design prevent Hunt for the Puppeteer from achieving its full potential. The story’s twists often feel telegraphed, and some plot developments strain credibility. The pacing, which should build steadily toward a climax, instead sags in the middle under the weight of repetitive tasks. There’s also a sense that the game tries to juggle too many ideas without fully developing them: elements of art history, puppet symbolism, and international intrigue appear throughout, but none are explored deeply enough to leave a lasting impression. As a result, what begins as an intriguing mystery gradually turns into a predictable procedural, more concerned with maintaining structure than delivering surprises. That said, players who appreciate classic adventure games with methodical pacing and traditional puzzle-solving may still find value in the experience, as it offers a steady stream of challenges and a consistent noir-inspired tone. Art of Murder: Hunt for the Puppeteer is ultimately a game that succeeds more in atmosphere than in storytelling. Its dark, elegant visuals and haunting soundscape create the perfect stage for a psychological thriller, but its script and gameplay fail to fully capitalize on that potential. It’s enjoyable as a slow, methodical investigation—a digital mystery novel that relies on observation and patience rather than reflexes or action—but it lacks the narrative tension and emotional complexity that could have made it exceptional. Fans of classic point-and-click adventures will find familiar comfort in its structure, while newcomers might appreciate its accessible interface and moody presentation. For those willing to overlook its flaws, Hunt for the Puppeteer offers a few hours of intriguing, if uneven, detective work, wrapped in a setting that feels both mysterious and melancholic. It may not redefine the genre, but it remains a respectable entry for players who crave old-fashioned crime-solving in a beautifully rendered world of shadows and secrets. Rating: 7/10
🎮 Reseña de Art of Murder - Hunt for the Puppeteer
