Visual novel with some very light investigative work. The writing was grammatically correct, with a few typos, and the dialogues were entertaining but sometimes clumsy. Some leaps of logic were made in the very simple mystery plot. Amateurish character art with weird, inconsistent anatomy. The valet and the contessa were particularly badly drawn. There was a clash between the clothing styles of the characters, as if they were from different time periods. Also a visual clash between the realistic backgrounds and the simple 2d anime characters. There were very few items to examine and some you should have been able to, but couldn't. I liked the suspect confrontation and revelations at the end because it reminded me of Hercule Poirot and required to pick the right choices. I replayed that section a few times to see the different endings.
Ugh! Please stop reading that. Its flowery language is an insult to [strike]witches[/strike] writing and driving away all of our serious customers!

After looking at the library addition date, I thought it would be easy to get achievements, but I haven't played it yet. It's a game like Unlucky Ace Attorney where you find evidence and find the culprit, but there's no Korean patch. All characters have voice actors dubbed. You can achieve the goal quickly by using the guide, but you cannot skip unseen text, so you have to hold space.

EDIT: IT'S FREE ON ITCH.IO??? THIS IS A SCAM WTH !!SPOILERS!!You know, I really wanted to like this game. I really did, but it just didn't live up to what I hoped it would be. I'm a huge fan of anything murder mystery related, especially gothic mysteries. Unforuntaely, this just didn't make the cut. I was expecting a gothic mystery visual novel, but what I got was...something that looked like it could be on itch.io..for free. STORY The idea was amazing, but maybe not executed so well. The story itself is okay. The true ending is... mediocre (I haven't gotten to it myself since I didn't think it was worth it, but I've watched what happens). I honestly really thought it'd be more interesting if it was
Sherice
or even
Lia
. But it was
Horatio
. Honestly, if there's anything I hate more, it's when murder mysteries choose the most expected suspect. I mean, the whole thing with the
wiring
? it was a dead giveaway. ART I mean, I'm no Picasso over here, but I do think they could have made a better effort on the art. It made me wonder why Comtessa's head was so much smaller than the other characters? It would have made sense on Sherice, but Comtessa is a full grown woman. The proportions were just off. In addition, there were only like, 3 sprites for each character. They also did not give a gothic feel, which contrasted with the background. Specifically clops and horatio. Lia is understandable, due to her background, but Clops and Horatio live there with Titanico, so I feel like Horatio shouldn't have looked...the way he did. It just made the
true ending
feel ...ridiculous. VOICE ACTING Well, I gotta say- props to the VAs! They killed it on this. Unfortunately, it seems like the voice acting was a gimmick to almost make it more interesting? Ace attorney has no voice acting, as well as some free games on itch, that have kept me more entertained than this. CONCLUSION I mean, I'll give it an E for effort. It seems in the achievements only...2.5 people completed the first chapter. I got to chapter 3 before quitting, so yeah I REALLY tried hard to like this game. I think it would have saved it to not have such a bland ending but what can you do. I'm talking about the true ending, btw. So maybe...idk? A 4/10. I also got it for 99 cents, which is pretty okay, but do NOT buy this game full price, it is NOT worth it.
overall good. can recommend it.

I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happineass of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
Only 2.4% of players have completed the "Chapter 1" achievement; that should tell you everything you need to know. But to be more specific... - The art is distractingly bad. - 2D characters against 3D environments is jarring (see point above). - The text has typos. - Your settings are not saved between sessions. - For a game with multiple endings, skipping past text you've seen is laggy and slow. - The plot and voice "acting" are just OK. At least it doesn't overstay its welcome.
MMM: Murder Most Misfortunate is not a game, it's a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure e-book/audio book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written (and badly voice acted) dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". To answer that question: When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This E-book features Choose-Your-Own-Adventure elements where you make some decisions that don't do anything to change the fact this is just an E-Book. Nobody finished reading a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book and said "Boy, what a great game I just played!". Because E-books aren't games. And neither is this. In fairness there's a couple of minigames, but wading through piles of badly written and badly voiced VN trash to find them just isn't worth the effort. The artwork here is mediocre at best, it's a hodge-podge of amateurish "My First Wacom Tablet" style drawings used instead professional looking game assets. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget to arrange someone who can create graphical assets properly, or lack of talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is lacklustre, it's not a selling point. While there are options to change the resolution for the E-Book, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the E-Book, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. You don't have to take my word about how bad the E-Book is, we can measure the interest in a book by how much people bothered to read it. MMM: Murder Most Misfortunate has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the E-Book absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for Chapter 1, trivial to achieve, but less than 3 percent of players bothered to read that far before uninstalling the E-Book. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this E-Book was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the E-Book. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 3 percent of players bothered playing the E-Book for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this E-Book to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the E-Book? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this E-Book for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the E-Book just has a couple of players every week running up the E-Book and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. MMM: Murder Most Misfortunate has the cash grab price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
