----------------------------------- Arsenal of Democracy is an improved version of Hearts of Iron 2 (which I've never played) and after testing this game, having played Hearts of Iron 4 outside of Steam I can say that in this, as in many other Paradox titles, the newer version is always an update to the game and makes it easier to understand, making the game better while also making it easier and quicker to get the hang of it and have fun. Not that this version (and others that are more or equally old) have no value, if for financial or any other reason you need to play this game instead of the newer ones, you will get good use out of it too, but if possible I always recommend the newer ones.
While this game will always hold a special place in my heart and I do recommend it as an overall experience, in my mind Darkest Hour is simply a better version of AoD. THAT BEING SAID, this game is part of my childhood and honestly incredible. Might be on the more dated end but credit must be given where it is due. ALSO it's leagues better than Hearts of Slop 4.
better than hoi4
I find this the best HOI game. I see that others have issues playing the game, and i'd call most of it a skill issue. It has a manual, read it before you get into playing so you understand how it all works first.
I played this game for hundreds of hours as a CD long before Steam. This is a fully updated HoI II with many mods from the community added. HoI 4 has thrown me off of that series. I fully prefer darkest hour, which includes WWI and there is a mod that allows the player to connect the two war eras, which in the vanilla game are seperated. In AofD there are far fewer provinces, making the map too simple. The tech tree is simpler than Darkest Hour. With my MS 11 computer the window is just too small to play. All that aside, what I do like are the hypothetical scenario campaigns like the US divided by a victorious Confederacy among others. But not being able to see more than a very small screen prevents me from playing it. Back to Darkest Hour. I give it a positive review for what it was back in the day.
懂得都懂,不过是印度的rbq罢了。
I really enjoy the detail on most things. I can choose among dozens of real Generals which is something that really cannot do on HOI4. there are some bugs here and there but nothing that will destroy the experience. This is the game I play to relax and "waste" my weekends.

Great game!! IMO its more in depth than Hearts of Iron 4. It's definitely more click intensive but man im having fun with. Highly recommend if you're interested in trying some older HOI games. I think this and HOI 4 are the best ones to own.
Put simply, it's a poor man's version of Hearts of Iron IV, more complete than the HoI4 base game, but lacking any of the DLC or after release support that makes HoI4 a God tier game. I'd save your money and just buy HoI4 instead, but if you can't afford it or the extended list of DLC that goes with it, then this one is okay, but I don't recommend it.
