About
The Culdcept series has captivated players worldwide. Now, the original masterpiece returns, enhanced with convenient new features.
Build your deck from over 300 types of cards and witness the dawn of a new battle among Cepter.
On the continent of Bablashca, where the chief god Culdra once clashed with the neutral god Baltias, humanity—Culdra’s final creation—had long flourished.
However, the world fell into chaos when stone tablets discovered across the land were revealed to be fragments of "Culdcept"—the Book of Creation and Destruction.
Driven by the mythical prophecy that "he who commands the Culdcept shall gain infinite power," Cepter began to fight one another over the scattered fragments.
As the ravages of war spread, a lone youth finally rises and sets out on a long, epic journey.
Players become "Cepter" who wield cards, heading into battle with a self-constructed 50-card "Book" (deck).
Move across the map guided by the roll of the dice and summon creatures using cards on the spaces where you land. Any land where you place a creature becomes your territory.
By using Spell Cards, you can manipulate dice rolls, support your creatures, or sabotage your rivals.
The first Cepter to collect the target amount of Magic Power and return to the Castle (the starting point) is declared the winner.
After a match, you will receive a random set of cards based on your ranking. Incorporate these new cards into your Book and refine your tactics for the next battle.
When you land on another player's territory, you must pay Magic Power as a toll. However, by summoning a creature and winning a battle, you can claim that territory as your own.
In battle, the key to victory lies not only in a creature's stats and special abilities but also in Item Card effects and support bonuses from the land or allies.
Seize territories and increase your Magic Power to gain the upper hand in the game.
【Rewind】Rewind the game to any point someone passed a Checkpoint at a Fort or the Castle.
【Quick Save & Load】Enables you to save and load at any time, independent of the main game's standard save function.
【Bonus Pack】Increases the number of reward cards received at the end of a match. This can be toggled ON/OFF in the options menu.
【Reveal Hands】This feature allows you to constantly display both your own and your opponent's hand on-screen—information that was only visible at specific times in the original version. It can be toggled ON/OFF, and the display size adjusts automatically according to the game's screen layout.
【Language Switching】You can play the game in either Japanese or English.
Note: Save data is not shared between languages. Separate save files will be created for Japanese and English.

I'm so excited to have Culdcept on PC! If you've never played it's like Magic: The Gathering added to Monopoly. You roll dice to move on a board, you place creatures on a spot to guard it, when an opponent lands on that spot they have to pay the troll toll or defeat your creature. Leveling up lands increases creature defense and toll cost and placing adjacent creatures increases attack. Then there's the land-type stocks where you can bet on future values of land types. There's a lot going on, but the game will ease you into it. This version of the game has a quick save feature so that games can be saved in the middle of a long stage (every stage is a long stage). One downside that folks are running into is that controller support isn't quite where it's expected to be. I had to disable my second controller in order for my primary controller to work. Others have shared in the community tab that they'd had to override some controller settings. I would suggest trying the demo in order to work out any controller issues before purchasing this game. Hopefully this is fixed in the near future. In summary, this is a fantastic game that I've been waiting to come to PC (without emulation) for many years and it's everything I hoped it would be. Oh, quick note. There's a new Culdcept game coming out for PC as well from another company. I look forward to playing that one as well, though the new AI is much better about defending against forced movements than this old build. Noting that I wish the name of the game was more accurately translated as "Cardcept."

I bought it day one to support the franchise, but I'm seeing dealbreaker issues. I'm going to assume that most people checking this out know that this is essentially the old Culdcept game ported to PC. If you're new and didn't know, I'd suggest trying out other entries in the Culdcept series as your first experience. The port lacks a lot of quality-of-life features. No mouse support. No wide-screen support: They just added borders to wrap the original game. The intro text-crawl remains untranslated in japanese even with language set to English (Gonna be charitable and assume it's a movie file they can't re-render). And so on the list goes. I was honestly willing to look past that. What stops me from recommending this game is that I've experienced the game freezing and becoming unresponsive. Just going through the campaign and I've already experienced the game just freezing multiple times. It can happen when doing something as simple as changing text speed and saving the settings. Screen goes black, nothing loads, controls remain unresponsive. I wasn't going to write a review, but while playing through the campaign, after a mission that took over an hour... The game froze. I'm staring at the frozen window as I write this review. I'm just imagining having to play though the same mission again, without modern text-skipping for the constant quipping from your opponents, and unskippable animations and transitions... Can't really recommend any game in this state.
If you just bought this game and you are playing on a Steam Deck, use the "Proton Experimental" compatibility layer if you experience black screens that cause the game to lock up. The demo had the same issue.
I am a huge fan of the Culdcept series, ever since I played Culdcept Saga on the xbox 360. Earlier this year, they announced two new Culdcept games, Culdcept Begins and Culcept The First. I just finished the new Culdcept Begins game on the Switch 2, and I give that game a huge thumbs up. I was very interested in playing Culdcept The First re-release, since I never played it on the original Playstation. It never came out in the US. So, after playing the demo, and now playing the release, I have to say, this game is a big step backwards in pretty much every category. This is not a remake, no enhancements have been made to the game, other than making it run on a PC. Even then, it doesnt offer any mouse support. This is really a bare-bones re-release. The game looks horrible on a modern computer screen, its PS1 visuals blown up to HD, and the results are expectedly bad. Gameplay wise, a lot of feature improvements over the most recent Culdcept games are missing, this is the first Culdcept and it really shows. The card portraits are really muddy and low res, and the in-game sprites are poor. Charging $30 for such a weak port is pretty shameless. I love that the game is available now to western players, but minimal effort has been put into this port. If you are a Culdcept fan and are curious about the first game, play the demo. Thats pretty much all you need to see. Then go and get Culdcept Begins on the Switch 2, or play the other more recent Culdcept games like Saga and Revolt.
