Jumanji: The Video Game might look like an interesting action-adventure from the outside, but once you actually start playing, it’s a massive disappointment. The controls are frustratingly clunky, making the combat and movement feel like a chore rather than a fun experience. The gameplay loop is incredibly repetitive, with very little variety in objectives or enemy types to keep things engaging for more than a few minutes. While it captures the look of the films, the actual execution is so poor that it’s hard to stay interested for long. 4/10.

The game is not worth the money at all. The game just has 4 different levels that have the same order of sections and the levels are mostly just the same layout with different weather. The combat was A$$! The grenades felt awful to use most of the time and the guns felt quite bad at least on controller, because the game has no aim assist. The enemies in combat were also just the same 4 enemy types. Overall 1/10, the game is just too repetitive and is not worth more then 1$. The voice actors also kinda poopooed.
$30 Garbage If you paid $30 for this, you deserve what's coming to ya.
Genre
Ein Third Person Action Adventure Shooter mit Fokus
Story
Jumani: The Video Game is another uninspired video game adaptation by the same publisher who graced us with others like Trollhunters, which was perhaps as equally as bad but in a different way. This is the second video game I have played from this studio and it has only further cemented my suspicion that they choose to do these adaptations not because they want to create a fun video game but because it is appealing to children and children do not really know what an objectively good video game is as they likely do not yet have anything to use as a frame of reference. They can pester their parent/guardian to purchase the game, if they are a fan, and not be any the wiser afterward. They'll play it for a few hours at most, not realizing why they are so bored, but stop questioning it due to a short attention span and just go to some other video game whilst the developers have gotten their money out of them. These developers not being held to a certain standard allows them to operate predatorily, as surely any passionate video game designer would not be satisfied with the result of this video game if it wasn't just something they churned out over a few weeks of crunch-time to capitalize upon the theatrical release of the movie generating an interest in the franchise. Admittedly, I've never watched either versions of the Jumanji movie and did not read anything about it online, so I really have no idea what it is about. But I've sort of noticed a pattern where if a movie contains Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson (I'm not calling a narcissistic Hollywood celebrity by some ridiculous nickname to boost his ego) and Kevin Hart, it's probably going to suck. I just don't think this trio has the chemistry to perform as the comedy troupe they often want to be portrayed as. If this video game is meant to be the movie in a more playable format and show us what to expect if we were to watch it, then I know my decision to not waste the money in theater was smart. And that's the thing: I truly have no idea what Jumanji is even after beating this video game, and I refuse to watch the movie to find out more about it as I was so bored playing the game that I can only think I'll be bored watching the movie. This is why movies being adapted to a video game format must be fun to play: it can be more harmful than positive and could dissuade someone from wanting to spend anymore money on the product if they chose to play the game(s) first and watched the movie(s) secondarily. All I could tell from context clues is that it's four people collecting these stone fragments(?) in some sandy part of the world that, when combined, unlocks a door that leads you to some sort of obelisk that you then stand there and defend from waves of hostile people that seem like natives to that area perhaps just protecting their homeland from a bunch of westerners as they rush to stop you from achieving whatever it is. Yes, that is the core gameplay loop of Jumanji: The Video Game. You do a brief tutorial which tells you a few button prompts and explains the objective of the entire video game. Playing five minutes of the tutorial means you've already played the entire game. You explore a linear outdoor space, mostly comprised of a hallway map design with a few left or right turns, and find four fragments to make the "Jumanji" at the closed door that is blocking you from the next part of the map. These fragments are dispersed throughout a rather small, undetailed, set of four maps in total that have some obstacles like the aforementioned hostiles who are just placed there to give you something to shoot at while you groan as you play another bout of hide-and-seek with Jumanji. Each map can be beaten in less than 20 minutes. You fulfill the requirements to opening this door and then approach an obelisk that floats as you just shoot bad guys who repeatedly spawn from doorways until the obelisk is charged after a few minutes of thrilling gunplay, to which you move onto the next part of the map to do it all over again. Another game of hide and seek, another game of horde defense with the same enemy variety. There's occasionally a brief intermission in style where you navigate floor traps and swinging blade traps and the Jumanji fragments are often placed inconveniently atop of these traps and so it becomes a timing puzzle, albeit still very easy and something you can just run through even on the hard difficulty without dying. I think I only died one time in this video game and it was in trying to karate chop a rhinoceros that is apparently invulnerable (no animal abuse, I guess, but we'll kill the tribespeople no problem) and it'll kill you instantly if you don't run away from it in the game's desperate attempt to add variety to itself through a brief chase scene that is not at all suspenseful. Crash Bandicoot did a much better job at this. The characters are designed to look like the actors playing them in the movie, and the resemblance is accurate enough but it's probably not that hard to do when you can surely just 3D scan them into the game. Of course, Dwayne Johnson's musculature is detailed and they got the height of Kevin Hart with the rotundness of Jack Black. I don't know who the redheaded chick is but the character is hot enough to be a female character in a video game, I suppose. But the voice acting is overall bad and it's blatantly not the actual actors. Much of the voicing you'll hear is along the lines of "need more ammo." The basic cutscenes that exist are instead narrated by some other voice. Aside from the repetitive gameplay loop, there's flaws in the combat itself. The in-game mouse sensitivity sliders are not properly implemented, as adjusting your sensitivities still results in the vertical and horizontal movement being the same and lacking smoothness. It's clearly a video game designed for controller usage. The game is lacking in a dedicated jump button which just feels counter-intuitive, your only 'jumping' is simply vaulting over a low-rise wall. There exists the standard "slide with E" animation that every shooter game of this era wanted to add (despite no jumping), but there's no real slide feeling to it. It feels more like you're trying to slide through tar as the character hardly gets any distance in the slide, and so there's seldom any opportunity to use it. Pickups (like ammo crates) are pretty frequent but capacity is very low for how spongy some of the enemies are on the hard difficulty setting and melee combat is stiff and underwhelming. Aiming down sights would often result in the camera being stuck right behind the character's head if I was too close to a wall. Each playable character has their own playstyles, or at least the developers attempted to deliver it in that way. Mostly, abilities are pointless and probably just there to further try and add some substance to an otherwise dull video game. Jack Black is the effeminate healer, Dwayne Johnson has the ability to pound the ground to show off his big muscles, the redhead chick plays a song on the radio and is clearly also meant as another supporting character, and Kevin Hart is like the damage dealer, but they all have a primary weapon that operates similarly and every grenade is the same as well, and so there's no real difference between any of the characters beyond the appearance. You can also unlock new clothing for the characters as you 'level up' but it's mostly just reskins of another outfit and so character customization is very minimal. The game is far from worth the price of $30 USD. This isn't a game that you should spend more than $10 USD on, and only in the case that you have people to play it with as I imagine it's slightly more tolerable as a cooperative experience, but parents' looking to play games with their kids should look elsewhere. Jack Black's character is another assault on masculinity and so if you have a son, you don't need to expose him to that.
Repetitivo e enjoativo, passem longe disso.
