Nice stealth ninja game. Alot of fun trying to reach the exit on each story level. Need to be carefull with guards.. ;)
This is one of my favourite Stealth games on Steam. Aragami utilizes the verticality in the maps very well, so you'll always have the higher ground (quite literally) over your enemies. There's a nice progression in difficulty of levels, the boss fights as well as finding the scrolls to unlock your skills. Sora had to be one of the hardest chapter to beat. It's either kill your way, or sneak your way through the chapters. I like the flexibility of choices you can make to complete a chapter. The story was also decent, and quite a twist in betrayal at the end. Although the VAs in the game sounds like mumbling jargon, the music was very immersive and even cinematic at times during the boss fights. The animations and graphics were very well-made and smooth without any bugs or glitches from my experience. I'm absolutely in love with Aragami's model design, as well as the customizations you can do for his skin. All the graphics and audio can be adjusted to your preference as well. Though the final boss fights was underwhelming in story mode (no spoilers), you can still go back to previous chapters as well, to try to get all the medals too, for achievement hunting purposes. Overall, Aragami is an amazing, must-have classic Stealth game on Steam!

The thumbs down is conditional. It is because the game uses checkpoints instead of allowing you to save. That means you can almost clear a map before dying and have to do it all over again. It's difficult to stress how much I hate that. I really, really hate that. I don't know why any developer would choose that route. If I had known that previous to buying it I probably wouldn't have. With that said, if the idea of checkpoints doesn't bother you, and you like stealth games, then I highly recommend this one.
While Aragami had a lot of fun ideas, it could have used a little bit more polish around the edges. Many of the abilities aren’t balanced well, and the enemy placements seem lazy. There’s 13 mediocre chapters, and perhaps it would be better with 6 ones that had a lot more thought and care put into them. The story isn't really interesting, and there’s nothing super unique about this game art direction wise. There’s a scoring system, which is meant to encourage repeating levels, but each level is so bland I couldn’t pull myself to replay any. The good things are that the coop is implemented well, the powers can be fun when they work, and the game isn’t too long. With a little more polish and better level design this game could have been great, but as it stands the game is just passable.
Aragami is one of those games that really commits to stealth, and that’s honestly its biggest strength. Instead of giving you the option to go loud, it basically forces you to think, plan, and move carefully through shadows. The shadow powers, like teleporting between dark spots, feel super satisfying and give you a lot of freedom in how you approach each level. - Visually, the game also stands out. It has this clean, stylized look with strong contrasts between light and darkness, which fits the gameplay perfectly and makes sneaking around feel immersive. That said, it’s not perfect. The enemy AI can feel a bit dumb at times, and once you figure out their patterns, the challenge drops. Some parts, especially boss fights, can also be frustrating because of the one hit system. On top of that, the game can get repetitive after a while since you’re doing similar stealth routines across levels. - Where Aragami really shines, though, is coop. Playing with a friend makes the whole experience way more fun and less repetitive. You can coordinate kills, cover each other, and experiment more with strategies, which makes the game feel a lot more dynamic than playing solo. A lot of players even say coop feels like the best way to play it. Overall: I would say Aragami is a solid stealth game with great mechanics and style, held back a bit by repetition and AI issues, but if you play it in coop, it becomes a much more enjoyable and memorable experience.
Disclaimer: I measure my enjoyment of a stealth game by how much it allows me to go undetected with as little contact with the enemies as possible, however I will consider other playstyles as well. Visually this game is dated, but the architecture and general environments I do consider to be iconic. It is clearly feudal Japan inspired, but has just enough uniqueness to it in it's colours and shapes, that you will remember it as Aragami. Mechanically although i can be janky at times, the shadow mechanic is awesome. You can create shadows in dim light and teleport into them. This can save you from getting detected in extremely tight situations. The unlockable abilities are divided by defensive and offensive ones, that either get you real good at killing, or staying hidden. This duality is further enforced by the medal system, which rewards you for 3 things: staying undetected, Sparing everyone, or killing everyone. This adds replay value as you do need all the stars to unlock everything. Combat is non-existent. If you get detected, you either need to go in for the kill, or disappear. You're dead otherwise. I personally love this, because your sense of power in a stealth title should come from finding your way around enemies, rather than being able to take them in a fight! Story is ok. I was interested enough not to skip the cinematics the first time, but if you're looking for a game that has lore bits hidden all over the place, this isn't it. It's a straight forward movie plot with a handful of boss encounters. Does enough to keep you interested, but not enough to tell people about it. TLDR It's a simple, but extremely fun stealth experience that I will always remember fondly. I consider Aragami my second favourite stealth protagonist after Styx because the powers are incredibly strong when you're hidden, but are extremely situational once you've been spotted. If you're like me, Get this game!
After completing this game 100%

Summary: Aragami is a must buy for anyone who enjoys the older "more stealthy" stealth titles. At it's core the gameplay is very fun with a lot of flexibility, pair that with the overall atmosphere + customisation options and you have a really solid game that lets you be the shadow ninja you dreamed of. It's a shame the studio has shut down but I am grateful to them for creating such a memorable experience :)

Overall rating: 4/5

✅ I liked...

The progression. You are quickly introduced to the bread and butter mechanics that will remain key throughout the entire game. As you advance through each mission, new features will pop up that will keep you thinking of different approaches; this is normally through the introduction of a new enemy type, map feature to work around or ability to add to your arsenal. Each level also has 3 badges that you can obtain by either killing every single enemy, killing no enemies or never being detected. Collecting these badges was a lot of fun as you get to play through the game at least twice with a completely different playstyle.
That they made this an actual stealth game. It sounds weird to say but in my opinion, games nowadays treat stealth like an option where it doesn't matter if you get caught since you can just fight your way out of it. In this game you don't even have an "attack" button, so you really have to take a step back and think about how you're going to proceed. It adds a nice reminiscent, almost tribute feeling to the older stealth games I would play as a kid.
The care that went into the design of this game. The overall aesthetic was very satisfying to me, from the music & art style to the abilities you could unlock, it all just clicked together really well.
The customisation. Not really a lot to say on this point I just liked the diversity in gear you could equip and then all the colour options on top of that. You can make some really cool looking characters in this game.
How rewarding the gameplay was. This wasn't a particularly difficult game but after playing for enough time to get comfortable with the mechanics and the different abilities this game does a great job at making you feel like an unstoppable shadow assassin.
The co-op experience. Adding onto my last point, the only thing that could top being a unstoppable shadow assassin is having other unstoppable shadow assassins that you can team up with. If you're able to play this game with someone else I would highly recommend it.
❌ I didn't like...

The boss battles that much. Every now and then you would encounter a boss level which would play more like a linear puzzle, as opposed to the more freeing standard missions that would allow for more creativity. I can sympathise with the difficulty of making a boss fight for a game like this though, you can't have the boss getting one-shot like other enemies, but the lack of an attack button means you have to take other measures to do damage to them. It just didn't feel as fun to me personally.
How short it was. I think the base game took me around 20 hours to 100% which is normally fine, but I really enjoyed this game and I wish it had more baked into it.
The DLC as much as the base game. You have less abilities and the map design was a bit too open for me. It almost felt like you should play the DLC first so that the experience gets better as you progress and you conclude the title with a better aftertaste.
