Pros: Engaging Storyline and Character Development: Alterium Shift offers an engaging story with three unique characters, each with their own paths and storylines, adding considerable depth and replay value to the game. Visuals and Aesthetic: The game successfully captures a retro JRPG feel with pixel art and 3D backgrounds, creating a nostalgic yet fresh visual experience . Customization and Choices: Players can customize their gameplay experience through meaningful choices that affect the storyline and have the opportunity to explore different character abilities and strategies in combat. Cons: Early Access Limitations: Since the game is still in early access, it suffers from incomplete features, occasional bugs, and limited content which might detract from the overall experience until fully developed . Repetitive Combat System: Some players might find the combat system a bit repetitive over time, although the unique abilities of characters can add some variety. Navigational Challenges: The game currently lacks a detailed quest log and a flexible map system, which can make navigation and tracking objectives difficult for players). S ummary: Alterium Shift is a promising entry into the retro-inspired JRPG genre. It captures the essence of nostalgia while introducing modern gameplay elements that make it a fresh experience. While the game shows great potential with its unique storytelling and engaging character development, the current early access version may still need polishing to address issues like the combat system's repetitiveness and navigational challenges. As it stands, it's a game with a solid foundation that could become much more with further development. I find it to be a solid "7/10 shifts in the right direction". This reflects both the promise it holds and the journey it still has to undergo to reach its full potential.
Скучно !!!!!!!!! первая Grpg которая на меня нагнало скуку , в игре всё посредственно от графики до боёвки ((( лвл дизайн караул -_- не рекомендую !!!!
This game is absolutely one of the best I’ve played. I’m only a few minutes in on this account because I already spent hours on a friend’s copy before I finally had to buy it myself. It’s genuinely one of the most memorable and fun experiences I’ve had on Steam in a long time. Please give this amazing indie team some time and attention. The writing, characters, and combat are all deeply engaging and a ton of fun.
I'm a little disappointed that this game has been in early access for so long and I don't see any progress. I started playing yesterday and finished it after just under 5 hours. It's a shame, because the idea is nicely implemented and reminiscent of old JRPG classics, but at this point I can't recommend playing or buying it.
almost full year after my last edit: Zero content added since my last edit and now they have announced a "kickstarter". You cant make this crap up. -------- months later edit: dunno if I recommend anymore at this point anymore before EA is done. Even for a small team, there is a gigantic lack of updates. ---------- Dont know how I missed this one but I bought it immediately upon discovering it today. I really enjoyed the first hour I have played so far will update later.
Excellent game that really captures that golden age gaming nostolgia!
The game's strategic layer is both accessible and challenging, making each turn a carefully calculated move. Players will appreciate the diverse array of units and abilities, each contributing to the complex interplay of tactics and strategy. The story unfolds through engaging dialogue and well-crafted lore, adding a compelling narrative layer to the strategic gameplay.
Edit 1: Original review below, but I'm updating this. It's been almost a year since I bought this and played it. I'm extremely disappointed to say that there has been no progress on this. Furthermore, it looks like the dev has launched a POST-EA-launch kickstarter to obtain more funds. Folks, this game is dead. This is how games die. The dev tried and failed. The how and why doesn't matter, the fact is, this is the risk of buying EA games. And if you actually go read the kickstarter, it just gets worse from there. The premise of this game had a lot of promise but unfortunately, given the real-world experience of how this has stalled out and how they want more money, the writing is simply on the wall. I'm super disappointed, and changing my "Yes" recommendation to a "No" recommendation. My advice to the devs: Cut with the excuses, put in the work needed to pull this game along, invest in some Project Management skills, and look at what similar products (games) have done for roadmaps, strategy, completion, etc; it's very clear you're way over your heads. Everyone who bought this deserves a refund. Shame on you. Original review: This game is in early access and riddled with desperately needed QOL improvements.... But I still recommend it. I'm going to personally hold off until it's more developed and possibly released before playing it, but this is definitely of the Golden JRPG era. If you pine for the 90's retro-style JRPG's, this will likely scratch that itch. Just a word of caution: At the time of this writing, it's very unpolished and unbalanced, and I don't believe it's actually finished. It's a work in progress and from what I've seen, it's probably going to be that way for a while. Still, when it's done, this should be a wonderful homage to a bygone era - and you cannot put a price on that kind of nostalgia.
