Reviews

No stamina to manage? No mana bar to keep track of? Count me in! Instead it's all in one package that simply attacking will recharge it, at the cost of losing some when taking dmg from direct attacks, with plenty of other ways to recharge it as well. Exploration feels like Dark Souls 1 but is probably closer to DS3 if we're being technical: plenty of small detours but only really one main path with a couple of "optional" areas (optional if you don't care about some side quests and getting the "true" ending afaik). Character progression is nothing new, just different names and exact numbers when compared to other souls-likes. Not everything needs to be "new" so it's not a bad thing imo. My only real complaints are the average souls-like issue of not having any real way to tell where you're supposed to go to unlock the most stuff, before finally going for the final fight and locking some of it away until ng+ or an entirely new playthrough. Second issue I faced was weapon move sets variety, or lack thereof. Not that every single weapon strictly needs to be different but having experienced Bloodborne's weapon system I found it boring to experiment with different weapons. One thing this game gets right is how easy it becomes to switch builds, just find the key-item that unlocks the feature and do it however many times you like, no limited count item to stop you from switching after the 14 time. It took me roughly 16 hours to beat the entire game, though maybe 2 of those were farming and backtracking into nowhere. Any time after that is ng+, which is slightly different from the norm (in that you can choose to restart your world while keeping all your levels and loot) but you can then choose whether to activate the hard difficulty mode or just never turn it on. You do gain loads more resources for buying and leveling but other than that it's just regular ng+ stuff. If you like souls-like and you are NOT looking for the hardest game ever then this one is great.
