Age of Empires II (Retired)

Age of Empires II is simply one of the greatest RTS games ever made, and coming back to this classic version feels like reuniting with an old friend. There's something irreplaceable about the original sprites, the iconic soundtrack, and the satisfaction of building up from a handful of villagers to a sprawling medieval empire. I've lost countless hours to just-one-more-game syndrome, whether it's running through the historical campaigns or jumping into skirmish matches against increasingly brutal AI opponents. That said, this version is now retired and no longer updated — if you're starting fresh, the Definitive Edition is probably the smarter pick for its active multiplayer community and quality-of-life improvements. But if you have this in your library already and want the closest thing to the original experience, it still holds up remarkably well.
