Leider extrem unübersichtlich. Man weiß nicht was man tun soll.
The makings of a fun game are here, but it's not quite there yet. I'd certainly revisit it in a year or two, but I'm not sure if it's being developed anymore. Some quick thoughts about the RPG and coding side of it. RPG: this side is deliberately simple to allow for easy automation. My issue was that progression, skills, and itemization felt too basic. It would be nice to have skills like resistance buffs to be able to counter enemy damage types, damage shields or dodges for scripted dangerous attacks, etc. I didn't feel much incentive to make my combat scripts more complicated, which was disappointing. Some overarching progression goal or light story would be nice. Coding: this side needs a lot more attention. The docs are very incomplete still, which is a big problem for a coding game. The in-game editor is missing a lot of quality of life features, and the interface (dealing with files, especially) is cumbersome. BitBurner is a good example of a game that put coding in as a first-class feature, and could be helpful to draw inspiration from. If you can get around these rough edges, there is certainly some fun to be had here. I can't recommend it in its current state, though.
best
If you're in to or want to get in to programming, this game is a pretty great way to do it.
I really admire what the developer has done here. The game lets the player program to control up to 3 characters using javascript (you can still control the characters with keyboard / mouse, even if your code is running - it's kind of like having two people trying to control the same character in that case (there's also a key '/' for turning the code on/off and you can tell the game to stop running a character's code from the start menu if it gets locked up due to logic error or your code trying to make too many calls too fast). I've only played one other game that lets players script their avatars or npc team, Space Engineers and that doesn't work as well / fast with the scripting. Javascript just seems to work much better than C# for that. So far I've just used one character and haven't made the two npc teammates yet. My first character is a warrior. The mechanics of the game are very straightforward and easy to understand. There's a tutorial that should get most players right up to speed on the basics for the code (you open a code window from a button at the top right of the screen and it has a starting program in it, you just change a single variable from false to true and click engage and your npc will target nearest hostile and start fighting / looting. You can also control your character with the mouse while it's not running, and click disengage to turn off the scripting. Pretty neat. Then later on in the tutorial, it goes into code to handle death/respawn automatically, having the char go buy potions when it gets low, upgrading items (and scripting that too), moving around (and with scripting - many locations are named and there's a smart_move function that has pathfinding). For my code I've written so far (more like copied / pasted bits and pieces from the examples), I have auto checks for different levels of health and mana, and have the character either call the regen_hp and/or regen_mana function (+50 respectively) or take a potion if it's less than half, and if the potions run out, go back to the vendor and buy more. Each time the code loops, it checks for loot (that's automatically in the newbie code window), so by the time this script / char gets down to 0 potions, it has more than enough gold to buy more. I left it fighting overnight on the server last night and it made it from level 30 to level 36 before something happened and the server thought it was making too many calls / got stuck. When I logged back in, got disconnected again. Got on the Discord server, and got directed to the menu - character ops, stop code. That worked, I restructured the code a bit and logged back in and everything's working great again. Pretty fun little game. Another thing - if you search Youtube for AdventureLand MMORPG, you'll see Sinistrite with coding tutorials for simple starting functions and showing some ways to find more.
its a game
Really enjoyable game. Perfect to play if you don't have much time but like to code. Write the code, let it run for a day or two, try to figure out issues and repeat.
THIS GAME WILL NOT HOLD YOUR HAND ON LEARNING PROGRAMMING. I mostly knew python, and very little Javascript. But with my background I have been able to slowly piece together something that kind of works, and it's very fun getting something working. But do not get this game expecting it to be easy to learn, it won't be. But very rewarding!!!
A wonderful concept. Coding mixed with an idle mmorpg. The discord is also very active and there is events all the time. You will want to write the most optimal code to make your farming or grinding the most efficient it can be. As I already have experience in coding I'm unsure whether or not this appeals to anyone other than someone with a background in coding. The on-boarding is great in explaining the in-game mechanics, but DO NOT expect a javascript-tutorial built into this game. BUT they do link you all ressources needed to learn it. The in-game-code-editor is only a simple text-editor and I'd love more functions from the get-go. If you are interested in coding with javascript I'd personally recommend giving this a shot.
Good game if you like programming, want to learn or just too lazy to play an idle rpg with your own hands. Community on discord is also very helpful.
