Mars Attacks! (And Venus! And even the SUN!)
👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑⠀⠀⠀

Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
and discover more reviews from me.
Tower defense with a twist! Protect your space station from incoming saucers from planet Gorg. To do that set your towers on orbits and rotate to adjust their position, you can change it anytime so don't worry! Waves are approaching from different sides so you have to keep it spinning constantly. Interesting game mechanic that makes a good use of strategy and tactics. Many different type of towers including support, damage and research. To upgrade your setup you need tokens which you gather from research labs throughout the gameplay. You have to repair your towers as they take damage. Whole game presentation reminds of some old school black and white space opera with FMV cutscenes and it's done well. Visuals are good with distinctive art direction. Music and sounds are also good and fits in. Overall great tower defense with interesting game mechanics! PS: Don't bow to the king Gorg from planet Gorg
Unstoppable Gorg is a tower defense game that utilized the standard mechanics, but also a lot of 50's 60's scifi with the UFOs and Flash Gordon (tm) type design for nostalgic look. Unfortunately, the game is extremely difficult, even on easy, even for veterans of tower defense, and the economy was emphasized to a much greater degree than bounty which made for a weird game balance. Basically, you need to build defenses for Earth when a fleet of alien UFOs invade. Simple enough. THe trick however, is instead of relying on bounties for each enemy killed, you have to instead place "generators" (solar satellites) to generate money before you can buy the satellites to place in orbit. There is bounty for kills, but they are so miniscule the mission would be over (and you lost) by the time you killed enough to build a turret. For example, killing a small UFO has a bounty of $2. When it costs $100 to build a simple Vulcan turret, and even a Vulcan turret cannot stop a medium UFO even after 2 passes, it's pretty obvious what they want you to build, esp. when selling such structures yields 35% return only. So winning comes down to timing: build what you need at the last second, and build moneymakers immediately, but the timing can only be found through experimentation. Yet how many times can you play a tower defense game? That's why this game never really quite got the receptive it hoped, compared to all the other tower defense games.
I failed on my first attempt at the fourth or fifth mission and realized I wasn't really enjoying it. I'm not a fan of rotating the orbital rings to position satellites. It feels hectic and unpleasant. I dunno, I usually love tower defense games but this one just didn't click with me. Not really interested in investing more time in it. Shame, considering it took me 13 years to get around to giving it a shot.
The golden age of sci-fi aesthetic is brilliant and the cut-scenes are great. This tower defence game isn't for everyone - it's very difficult, requires some serious risk-reward macro at the start, requires you to micro the orbits, and can end up being a bit of a trial-and-error failure/memorisation dependent puzzle game. This game would have really benefited from an easier mode to reach a wider audience. Despite really enjoying the aesthetic, and initially the gameplay, it wore me down in the long run.
Dear God, NO! I have played hard TD games and success to winning was tactic. But Dear Lord! In this game there is no such thing as tactic. First of all, all level sizes are the same regardless if its first mission or 10th mission the size is 4x4. if that was not bad enough game wants you to rotate your built towers, how ? Since theme is space your HQ is either planet or something else and around this object are couple rings on which has about 2 fixed build spots. It would be alright if the game did not send enemies form other sides because a) your towers can be destroyed b) its hard to react when enemies approach from multiple sides at once since the player has to rotate towers c) game has environment hazards such as randomly flying asteroids that can damage your main object and/or towers. d) there is no tactical pause to do this all at once. Developers thought it could be GREAT idea to take idea from Plants vs Zombies. When you have to start with sun flower to gain resources. How? There is no way to build more than one tower if you start with any damage type because cheapest tower costs 100 resources and killing enemy ship gives you 1 - 3 resources. So in order to get that mula you must build sonar panel first. The game is so abysmal that you cant even know how much tower has improved when you upgrade it during the match, there is no indication on range, damage nor even visual. No wonder this game's title is "Unstoppable" thats why its unforgivably hard to the core. What a load of $hite!
https://youtu.be/kMt9-fx9XEs Tightly tuned the economy provides a well balanced challenge but at the cost of fun as the limited number of placement spots severely shrinks the play space for experimentation.
