About
After crash-landing on a deserted planetoid deep in uncharted space, your job is to keep your crew of four distinct explorers alive long enough to figure a way back home. Adaptory combines deep physics-based simulation with base building and discovery. As your team digs below the surface, relationships develop, challenges appear, and rebuilding the ship might eventually take a backseat to unraveling the mysteries of this seemingly dead rock.

Each crew member is a distinct individual, generated procedurally at the start of each game. Your goal is to keep them alive: breathing, fed, warm, healthy, and happy. Each explorer has their own set of skills, traits, and opinions they will not hesitate to share with other crew members. Their conversations and diaries are an integral part of the story and the gameplay, helping you figure out how to best utilize their skills in a challenging environment.

The crashed ship provides shelter and will keep your crew alive for a time. But to survive, you'll have to build a proper base and form a resilient community capable of facing any dangers. Your crew needs somewhere to sleep, eat, wash, heal, and hang out to keep morale up. Manage temperature, connections, plumbing - and that’s just the beginning. Complexity grows over time. Eventually, you’ll have to automate the base, because while it grows, and so does your list of tasks, your crew size does not.

Adaptory runs on sophisticated physics and chemistry systems, simulating gravity, temperature, density, viscosity, and even phase transitions with nearly fifty different materials to learn about and experiment with. Leverage them for your benefit. Need power? Set up a solar panel array to capture sunlight. Or power generators by boiling water with molten rock to generate steam or funnel natural gases to a turbine. But remember: each game is a completely new, procedurally generated experience with unique challenges.

Every game comes with unexpected twists and turns. Random meteor showers, solar flares, earthquakes can damage your base - but also provide unexpected opportunities in the form of rare materials or uncovering new veins and artifacts, if your explorers survive them. Even if your base weathers it without a problem, it might push one of your crew members to the breaking point or sever a relationship. How will you adapt and survive? Will you?

Adaptory is a self-contained story set in a much larger universe. You will be able to take a peek at it through the crew's diary entries, artefacts you might find deep within the planetoid, system logs, and even random conversations. From the history of your crew's home planet and their deep-space mission to the mystery of what actually happened, piece together a gripping science-fiction tale crafted by award-winning writer Cassandra Tse.
Adaptory is an ambitious game combining base-building, realistic simulations, emergent gameplay, character development, and randomly-generated events, and is being actively developed with regular updates as we approach version 1.0. We will be introducing new systems and mechanics based on your feedback, so please join the Adaptory Discord to get access to early builds and join the community!

about 4 to six days in everyone dies, either from starving despite having food, or suffocating despite being near/in oxygen. multiple playthroughs never had any colony survive long enough to develop revival tech. they all just randomly start offing themselves. edit 2/16/2026 made it to 17 "days" before the first starvation with access to food. realizing Gases move like sand, not gas helped. still can't recommend
When I finished the current content, I admit I was disappointed. As other's have stated, all research can be completed in a couple of hours (far less when you figure out how). The storyline and what you're INSTRUCTED to do, is currently limited. Very, very true. But, I've played for over 100 hours. Without instruction there's plenty to do. So far, I've tamed and automated both water and magma springs figured out infinite gas and water storage managed to keep the base at the perfect pressure to keep everything running well and maximising... ? I don't want to spoil it. There's of course, annoyances. The physics of this planetoid are a little irritating in the beginning in that CO2 stacks, instead of settling at the lowest level. I got over it. I plan my dig, let it stack, plant a tree or three and it's sorted. Water also behaves in unpredictable ways' also stacking, though not as high as CO2. I have to say, one of the most annoying things is not being able to move/mop small amounts of water. Currently, the only thing that temperature effects is water (steam), plants, magma (becomes solid) and ice melting. Explorers don't complain, but, Jeez, the sitting water everywhere drives me nuts. There's a sound for everything, and half the time I don't know what some mean. When automating oxygen flow, water pumps, doors, coal generator.. the more automation the more NOISE everything makes due to everything stopping starting, or opening and closing non stop with level and pressure changes. I have horrible eyesight, so UI at 200% means repetitive speech bubbles covering the screen. Yet the UI doesn't change the mouse over descriptions of what tiles are. Far more important to me. The explorer chatter is too much. It's non stop jubber jabber. I honestly get sick of the whimpering when explorers are in a hurry to get back to oxygen. Sometimes less is more. There's a sound for absolutely everything, and most are not subtle. I'm embarrassed to say, I come from playing thousands of hours on ONI. This game is not ONI. At first I was comparing it no end. It's difficult not to. If I wanted it to be like ONI, I'd just play ONI. If you're a true explorer you'll appreciate the amount of hours you can put into this while waiting for the storyline to continue. If you're a tourist, you'll call 'no content' and wait for someone to give you directions. Figure out the nuances. Expies starving while there's food right next to them? You'll figure it out. Do they keep sleeping on the floor when they have a perfectly good bed. You'll figure it out. Play with the mechanics. Observe the physics. Avoid the tantrums. There's a lot to do while waiting for the game to grow. I consider this purchase an investment.
It's trying to be Rimworld and Oxygen Not Included, and it's nottt really working. I tried to get past the early game so bad. A combination of being unable to get water out of random parts of my base and the air mechanics made my experience more frustrating than anything. There's very little explanation on how to fix things other than "hey this machine does this thing, good luck!" Not to mention the whole "stopped due to pressure" thing. I can't move air out of an area to reduce the pressure because the pressure is too high to move the air. I know it's probably just a skill issue but PLEASE the game does not tell me anything. There's also the building. The resource management is kinda just easy to ignore. It's up in the corner out of sight most of the time, and the only time I notice we don't have the resources is when my people stand still and do nothing. The random events are also very easy to just ignore, especially when you haven't explored most of the map. There is some good. The pathing is great. I never had an issue with the colonists getting stuck that wasn't my fault. Overall, eh. I refunded it.
The performance is so bad it must be farming crypto in the background or something.
No logic to oxygen production no matter how you try. The peeps will die asap as you simply cannot get oxygen production set. Becomes a pointless reset and try again ♥♥♥♥ show....
I am trying to get in the habit of writing more reviews. Those niche / solo dev games that need a little extra love really benefit and Adaptory is one of those titles that deserves the attention. If you are one of those people that LOVE the idea of the intense survival crafter .. Like Oxygen Not Included, Ratopia but NEED something a little less punished when just trying to unwind after work ... This game will be a solid addition to your library if you want a game that makes you think just enough to keep you engaged without flipping your lid. The game is still in active development and will continue to scale some complexity .. with additional option for scaled difficulty.. but the CORE of the game is the cute and cozy crafter disguised as something a little more scary. It has electricity and fluid management (gas / liquid) while laying the groundwork for some later logic .. but it also has adorable little workers that contain their own quirks. There are frequent diary entries and insight into the workers ... mood dynamics and resources to manage ... but its fun. The events are engaging and hidden stuff to find. Its a rare gem with one of those developers that actually engages with the community and believes in the spirit that early access was pioneered. I feel it is one of those games i can put 100-200 hours in those wonderful 2 hour chunks where i get to steal away and decompress. The learning curve is perfect to share with children just beginning to grasp complex systems. Worth the Price!! - sorry i tend to ramble ...
There is a lot to say about this game, keep in mind that it is still unfinished but that being said, there is a lot of good things to say about this game. The bad things first: So it has it's flaws, the mechanics for enviromental behavior isn't always great as well as the Oxegyn bubbles are from my personal experience with the game a bit all over the place. The only other bad thing that I've found a bit annoying is that sometimes your charecter with almost choose the worst pile of dirt to go and pick up even if theres no oxygen in that spot but these are honestly these are the only but biggest flaws that I've encountered so far. But here are the good things about this game: I love how they personally have a story sort of theme going on for not only the player but also between the charecters as well and it's so cool seeing it progress as you work toward discovering new tech and new materials. The animation style of this game is so charming in it's own way, it's quirky, cute but safisticated all at the same time. I personally love it. I also love how the game progresses you gradually to overcoming new but urgent challenges staright out the gate. love all of the different people and personalities that each charecter has as well as creative pros and cons to each one so forming a dream team can be a bit of a challenge but I found it really fun. This game reminded me a lot of a sims game in terms of the many people you need to overlook as well as the mechanics and I personally have never been drawn to those sorts of games but I can confidently say that I've been having a massive amount of fun with Adaptory. And lastly, I can't get over the fact of how good the soundtrack for this game, Shoutout to the composser of this sountrack of this game Sai Natarajan (viusmusic) it is obvoius that he put his all into this music and it sounds so polished and amazing, showing that he truly cared about the experience for the player so I highly recommened that you go and check out his other music that he has made So final thoughts on this game is that it is definetly a gem with a massive amount of potential behind this game and I can't wait to see what they do with it and where they take it in the future <3
So far so good! If I sunk some serious time into this current version I could see where the limits on content are, but remember this is early access and actively being worked on - just today a new update dropped! For better or worse this game will always end up being compared to ONI which sets a really high bar. As the game develops I'm looking forward to seeing more ways Adaptory is different to ONI, there's a lot that could be done with such a deep genre (for example I like how colonists keep a diary, more of that aspect of humanity / personality / social dynamics pls).
Just a non-stop crash-a-thon, virtually unplayable as it stands.
It has a far way to go but you can tell its going to be very good. i played the demo for this too. also I believe you should buy it to support the game so they can continue to add more! Remember how long ONI took to get where its at now?? Great games are not made over night. This game will be great if everyone helps get the word out of it. you cant expect ONI quality when ONI wasnt much when it came out. They also probably had more people working on it too. SO SUPPORT THE GAME. its not expensive and continue to watch out for updates!! You have to remember its early access and takes time. It has a great foundation.
