Good, Bad and Ugly. From a returning SNES player. THE GOOD. Music is a nice revision. They have added a lot of tower defense gameplay, and it is interesting. Sometimes even quite hard. They kept a lot of gameplay, ie 2D maps and the towns, very much the original game. Good. THE BAD. I am not sure why the game is weird anime art now. I don't like it or dislike it, but in the end I found it a distraction not an enhancement. Sidescroller action is easier now in many ways. You can heal now, you get damage and magic buffs, etc. You don't need to be strategic with magic, can just spam it. Why are the graphics of a modern game just sprites? Was this made for tablet with low processing power? It's not even 3D, though it renders in DX11. Odd choice. THE UGLY. The dialogue and cutscenes are miserable. Recommend skipping all of them and then just looking at temple quests to see what it wants you to do. Gameplay goes like this: oh I would like to lightning a tree, town interrupts. Oh I would like to shoot an arrow, Angel interrupts. Oh I would like to build a road, hero interrupts. It's like 5 secs gameplay, 5 mins soap opera that's dull and boring fluff. ADVICE. This game is worth a nostalgic revisit, especially if on sale. I liked my replay, once I realized I need to skip all dialogue. Also, in this game you can change the area of your miracle (lightning etc) and I didn't realize that until halfway through game. Saves a lot of time. Recommend target of 2 flags per Act. Good sweet spot between leveling up magic and not spending too much time searching. I think new players have more potential to enjoy this game than returning players. I think returning players would be split and hate dialogue.
A very beautiful nostalgic experience. A good opportunity to play a classic with a special genre.
If you really enjoyed the SNES version (i played it to death), you will enjoy this remake. The new combat system and magic attacks are great and the enemies and bosses have some new patterns. The tower defense system isn't great but it's not awful. The addition of the heroes is a nice touch and adds more story to the game.
A faithful remake of Actraiser, with expanded story elements and an extra realm. I didn't mind the tower defense stuff, but after you beat the game once they can be turned off. There's also an action levels-only mode too. While I would have preferred more hi-res graphics, the graphics work well enough. There is also new and redone music by Yuzo Koshiro himself. Overall I recommend!
I really want to see "Terranigma" receive this kind of love too! Perfection!
Bon remake. Que de souvenir!!
Tres bon remake bien fais et toujours aussi le fun pour ceux comme moi qui l'ont pas fini ses le temps :)
Should be called Actraiser: Interrupt You Every 3 Seconds With A Tutorial Dialog And yes, *dialog*, because not only are there 5x as many stop-everything-I-need-to-explain-how-pressing-the-A-button-attacks imbecile handholding messages as the original game - this is not an exaggeration - each and every one is an extended conversation with characters you will quickly grow to hate because their appearance means the game needs to come to a screeching halt while Generic Anime Angel explains that rain puts out fires which is good because having your crops on fire is bad since you need crops to support population. And it's just baffling, because the only reason anyone would play this is if they have nostalgia for the OG SNES game so you're long past toddler stage. But yes, it's Actraiser with a bunch of extra elements - quests, siege mechanics, short arena fights when sealing lairs, that sort of thing - which just add padding to the original formula and just make me wonder why they're there. Graphics are this awful prerendered 3d sprite aesthetic out of the playstation era, it's not great. I hate this.
