First, this is a children's game. If you keep that in mind, you'll know what to expect. It's very simple and repetitive, but it's quite similar to the SNES version. They added a ton of dialogue, updated graphics, a new "raid" style system within each kingdom, a new "champion" for each kingdom to help drive the dialogue, and there was a lot of other interesting changes. I don't like the "level 20 for each character" trophies, as they are a simple grind that takes hours and hours. No challenge, just time with the game running. The "special" mode seems interesting, but it's mostly just "replay" value for a game that used to be one and done... focused on a speedrunner/completionist mindset as far as the challenge. All in all, I liked this trip down memory lane, but it took 20+ hours to complete a single run through. Most of that was reading, and most of that reading/plot is at a middle school level or below. There is a skip button for most (maybe all?) dialog scenes. There's also "quests" to complete for each kingdom, and mostly focused on wait around for production (food, resources), or do what you were going to do anyway (clear the map of obstacles), or let them develop (build farms/factories/houses). There isn't a lot of skill required to play this. The platforming is very basic, the controls are simple (Jump, swing, magic) with Up+swing, Down+swing, and LorR+swing being the only "combos" involved. The boss battles at the end of each level have very limited/basic patterns of attack. It's not "Nintendo hard". Again, as a children's game, it's great. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone over the age of 15 unless you wanted a trip down memory lane.
