First game of the developer on Steam. Strange small walking simulator. You have a photo camera and make pics of strange things. This you can show a few people and get journel entries and search for new hidden scenes. For people that explore areas its a short fun to see all things like cats, chickens and other stuff. The graphics are not so good, but for a cheap indie game its fine, sound is the same. The end is coming very fast even if you watch every corner, but it has its unique style. I like to support this developer but you should get this game as cheap as possible with discount. Maybe 1 euro worth for achievement hunters. Sadly that there are not much achievements, but i enjoyed it and give personally a 57 %.
After reading the reviews I guess I'm the only one that disliked the game. The game didn't make sense to me! It wasn't scary to me, and it didn't feel trippy either. It just felt weird and buggy. Not much explanation about what is going on. All you do is walk around, make pictures, trying to find the paranormal. I did laugh 1 time though... A person told me not to make a picture of him and i did anyways. He told me I had no manners lol! Personally i don't think this game is worth 6 euro.
This game is VERY unique. Very unique. But it is not for everyone. If you like unusual, ugly, trippy, mindf**king, and creepy games like LSD: Dream Emulator, then this game is for you. If not, immediately look elsewhere. Anyway, this game has a lot of unique and creative ideas you often don't find in other games. You take photos of people and things around the village to find information and secrets about everything going on in the area. You end up finding and being in situations where you will say "WHAT THE HECK" to youself and develop uneasy feelings about everything. The atmosphere, espeically the busted and ugly graphics, was made to portray uneasiness and creepiness. It works really well for this game, because you will be taking pictures of people and things without permission which obviously makes you a creeper to others in the game. Overall, a good low budget game with a nice story made for fans who like extremely creepy and trippy stuff. 7.0 out of 10
This game is WEIRD, let's get that out of the way. But it's so eerie, and the way the camera allows you to shape the narrative, and your perspective, is super neat. Honestly felt myself being drawn in until the very end. (I am writing this review mere minutes after finishing it, heh, it just deserves a recommendation so much.) It's supposedly based on some real places, people, folklore, and events that I'm definitely going to look into later. If you're looking for a spooky and unique experience, check out 1,000 Heads Among the Trees! EDIT: Just wanna acknowledge that a lot of people criticize the execution of this game... And I'll admit it's certainly not perfect. But if you can appreciate something for atmosphere, and if you are willing to compromise having any linear, cut and dry story in favor of a narrative shaped by exploration and personal perspective, then you should be able to enjoy this game.
This game is worse than your worst nightmare.
This game is surreal, experimental, weird and unique. Quite interesting with low budget short game. For technical problem, the game run perfectly without any problem. No bug, no glitch or whatever. In this walking simulator spooky game. You're a guy who wandering around the town of Cachiche, Peru with your camera. And you can take a picture of everything. I said everything, it mean everything. You can take a picture of people, sculpture, dog, neighbour inside the house, tree, cat, rock, and ... ghost. Bring picture you take to town folk, and let them describe it for you. All the thing you've done is written on the journal, and you have some to do list to complete too. This is the unique concept thing I've experince like never before. And it is good for this short game. Btw, story is pretty weird, surreal, become mindbending at the ending. And it is remind me of surreal movie by Alejandro Jodorowsky. WEIRD ! So, maybe this game is not for everyone. But if you want something unique, this "1,000 Heads Among The Trees" is for you.
This is one of those ambitious, small budget video games that fails to impress. While it starts out as an interesting journey it eventually falls short of its promises. But what is this about? Cachiche is a town in Peru known for its spirits. Our protagonist arrives there to find out more of the background story of these ghosts. Gameplay consists of walking around and talking to the townsfolk. Additionally, we are required to take photos from time to time and show these to other people who can comment and provide us with more details. Through our camera we often see things differently. For instance, a dog may appear in skeletal form. In most cases our best bet is to return to the same character called "El Brujo" who knows more about the local witches and can comment on the strange phenomena we see through our device. The game looks ugly. Character models look soo simplistic that they look more like dolls. There are some areas in the countryside where walking through certain areas activates a filter. I believe the idea here was to indicate that these things affect our journalist and that he may be having an out-of-body experience. On the other hand, this filter looks so ugly that it is easily mistaken for a glitch. Beside walking we can take a taxi to fast-travel between key locations. The game's ending is unsatisfactory as it hardly provides any explanation. Our hero regularly makes journal entries throughout the story but after a while these become inconsistent - I have to admit these entries have a relatively appropriate command of English compared to most, similarly ambitious titles. A little more work could have made for an interesting title. In its current state, however, I cannot recommend "1,000 Heads" as its unfinished story and barebone graphics all act as deterrent factors.
This game is different. Bizzare maybe. You are a photographer or something similar who seeking ghosts in a small town. The game is pretty linear. The graphics & sounds are not perfect. The story is, ummm, bizzare. The objectives are irrelevant to the real objective. I mean, when the game wants you to take a shoot of a man waitiong for a car, actually you need to shoot a tree. Weirdo. However I liked it in contrast of its weirdness. If you have some spare bucks, give it a shot. 6/10
1000 Heads Among the Trees is an experimental game where you explore a weird town in Peru. Story: You play as a seemingly unnamed man (maybe woman, never really mentioned) who arrives at a small town in Peru named Cachiche. The town was founded by witches and the towns descendants still practice the arts, so you pick up your trusty camera to capture the towns secrets. The story honestly has a cool idea and a nice set up, but the execution is poor to say the least. Most of the notes your characters jots down are just absolute nonsense and barely make any sense, not to mention the characters you encounter just talk about random stuff and the only way I can describe the game is bizarre, but not the good kind. Graphics: 1000 Heads Among the Trees just looks downright awful. The town consists of the same type of buildings copy and pasted over and over again. It makes navigation a pain and with how there's barely any landmarks you can find yourself backtracking back and forth without knowing you actually did so. The characters are also incredibly cheap looking and recycled often. Every character model looks and acts robotic and with their sort of painted on expressions it comes off creepy, albeit if that was intentional is up for debate, but I think it definitely wasn't. Audio: The audio design is just straight up awful, with no redeeming qualities in any of the departments. The sound effects are all rather quiet and they just sound off. When playing I literally though the games audio was bugged, because of how poor everything sounded. The music is also not good and sounds like the most forgettable royalty free music. Gameplay: 1000 Among the Trees is basically a walking simulator where you go around taking pictures trying to spot ghosts. That's really all there is to it and yet it makes it incredibly boring. First of all let's talk about the actual picture mechanic. You go around and take photos and every so often you can trigger a haunting which make someone appear or disappear and this works for things like items as well. It's not really well explained what these things do. For example I photographed someone standing next to a building and the whole thing disappeared and I have no idea if that was an optional encounter or something I had to do to progress the story. By the end I felt I could have finished the entire game without taking a single picture, because that's how pointless it felt. The game also runs horrendously poorly, on no matter what preset you use. It's a unity game and if not optimized well those games will run at singular digits, even if your rig can run it. I could manage the game to run at a somewhat stable 30 FPS after tinkering with it, but considering how the game looks that's just abysmal. Verdict: 1000 Heads Among the Trees is absolutely awful and I simply cannot recommend the game to anyone. It has a cool idea and seems cool on the surface, but once you get into it, all you see is flaws. Not even worth on a sale, so if you want something about ghost and pictures, go play Fatal Frame. Final Rating: 2/10 Pros: + Cool concept Cons: - Abysmal optimization - Story makes no sense - Graphics are awful - Sound design is just horrible If you liked this review please consider following our groups and curator pages at https://steamcommunity.com/groups/completingthebacklog and https://steamcommunity.com/groups/ImperialReviews
Walking simulator that wasn't very pretty, or well put together (for me) -Another meh- For a small short game it wasn't the worst, it just failed to capture my interest. I possibly am not the target audience for it, but the graphics were not pleasing to look at and the story was a bit confusing in a lot of times and I felt like I got stuck wandering around a bunch of times to get where I was going.
