About

Doodle Dice Monsters is strategic turn-based battling game where you draw your own characters! Form your six character dream team, then duel your friends in strategic multiplayer combat. Inspired by Pokémon Tournament as well as Silly Band duels using playground rules, every game there is something on the line: winner not only gets epic loot, but gets to take one of the defeated Doodlemon for their own!

Using the draw feature, your team can compose of whomever or whatever you want! A Doodlemon's tier is determined by how long you spend drawing it. You start out with just the default palette, giving you a limited set of colors but unlock more as you play the game! There are no restrictions to what you can draw, so anything you can imagine is possible!
Every turn, swap in a Doodlemon that has not been used this round. Swap wisely to take advantage of type vulnerabilities and each monster tier's unique moveset! Successfully predicting your opponent's moves and creating favorable matchups will help ensure you leave the battlefield with an extra monster in your collection and epic loot in your inventory.
This game isn't bad at all, like most will say, it has a lot of potential I've only been playing a little over 5 hours when writing this review, and I usually don't write reviews, but I truly want to see where this game goes! I'm just going to list down some things about the game and [things I feel could be implemented] maybe in the future? MY 2¢ FOR THIS GAME: ● I enjoy the drawing aspect of the game, as an artist myself it's really not that bad, I've always been someone who had to use what little you have. Anything is possible, and it's actually enjoyable to pit yourself against the time to see how well detailed of a drawing you can get out of yourself in certain time frames! ⤵ [ Maybe potentially reduce the MAX time for certain tiers to truly pit players to the test, while giving the slime and nitro a bit more reason to be used if someone takes too long or too little of time. Also maybe adding in a 2-3 layer mechanic? But not necessary. ] ● The palette colors are very unique and fun. It truly gives the player a different eye of perspective of what to draw when dealt with a specific themed palette. ⤵ [ My only suggestion maybe would be to add a general (black, white, grey) to all palettes for people who enjoy bold outlining, but again, not necessary. Definitely add more palettes in the future! ] ● The battling system at first was a little tricky to understand, I'm not sure if the tutorial TRULY covered it, but I must've glanced right over it. The dice system makes sense to me and the attacks do as well, as they are all generally tied to the monster you drew and their tier level. ⤵ [ What most people can see and will eventually run into is the lack of replay value, and what I mean by this is that all the moves are more or less always going to be the same, maybe a little different? I think going forward, it would be cool to see a way for the monster doodles to have a 3rd Move that is based off of the colors most used in the drawing, I think that way there is a bit more strategy to it and uniqueness to each creature someone draws! ALSO ALSO if not the case, then at least let us NAME the moves on the doodles, that way it feels more aesthetic and mutual. IN ADDITION, maybe also add a 3v3 mode considering that most successful game are ones where people want to jump in do a quick match and leave, and I see no reason it can't be done in the same light as a 6v6 would be. ] ● THE KINGDOM....I just think it should all just be unlocked off the rip, that or make it less expensive, which brings me to the topic of the gold! I'm not sure if people are truly complaining to just complain about things, but it really isn't THAT hard to gain gold from fights, but with that being said, yes the prices should be a bit cheaper, but not that much, and while yes there really shouldn't be micro-transactions, considering that this game is catered to people who love to doodle, I genuinely don't think it's needed! People will just play, earn, and reward themselves easily if they truly love to just keep drawing and keep jumping into battle, but that goes back to my statement of replay-ability so people don't get bored. ● The dice system is pretty fun and I enjoy the little animations that they do, but I also love anticipation and immersion which I feel there is lack there of for this game in general. Things feel really instant and quick, which isn't bad yet again, but it's always nice to see some extra animations, VFX, cutscene, you name it. ⤵ [ Add more engaging dice animation and maybe even battle animations! ] OVERALL it's not a bad game, sadly it is a game that came out around the same time as MECCHA CHAMELEON so it's being heavily washed under the bus. If this game want's to survive there needs to be more development overtime as all, adding new and quality of life mechanics. The game works and does what it entails, but just needs to be polished as all, it's entertaining to draw and doodle and see others creative ideas, and the idea of stealing someone else's doodle is GREAT, things are more fun when your best drawing is on the line. Buy it, try it out, it doesn't really hurt for a $5 game, like you easily could just buy a sandwich for the same price maybe more, but what do I know.
Fun game! It still needs some polishing up in the quality of life department, but the developer is very responsive and has been pushing out bug fixes and updates constantly since the game's release. Things I'm a personally a big fan of in this game include: 1) a super low price 2) a responsive/active developer 3) being able to export your drawings to your computer as a PNG (even after you lose or release them!) 4) a reliable hide image/report function for other players' artwork (though the hide/report icon could perhaps be a bit larger and easier to see) 5) being able to see how many other people have used your creations (and other stats, yay numbers) My luck with dice rolls has always been around the Wil Wheaton level, so I tend to avoid dice-heavy combat systems; however, since the consequences for losing in this game are negligible, I don't feel bad about losing and can just have fun laughing at all the goofy drawings. Note: I'm playing on PC with a drawing tablet. Although pressure sensitivity is not currently supported, using a drawing tablet works just fine with only minor hiccups.
My first time buying an indie game and first time playing a 1v1 dice roll style game, and I couldn't be happier! DDM is awesome, it feels fresh & original and the stakes are soooooo high. The drawings studio is particularly fun. But my favorite part are the monster types and power options... it makes for very strategic gameplay alongside lots of rng. Sooooo addicting, and very high stakes when I have monsters I like. My only complaint is that losing my favorite monsters that I spent a long time drawing is very frustrating... I would like to see a consistent way to protect or earn back favorite monsters in the future. The game runs smooth and its easy to earn lots of coins. I had no problems buying color palettes or unlocking bases or upgraded my monsters, it seems like this issue has been patched since previous reviews. I didn't encounter any bugs while playing.
I'm not sure if I could recommend this to everyone, but I have been enjoying my time with the game and I think others who enjoy drawing might get some enjoyment out of it as well. The drawing app is nice and being able to battle with your creations gives purpose to drawing them in the first place. I also like the tiering system as it gives value to both detail drawings you put a lot of time into but also gives you reason to just make very quick doodles, especially when they're fun little joke ones. The combat isn't ground-breaking but it's a good blend of having enough depth to engage with while not being too overwhelming. It's makes for a nice justification to spend the time and energy to make the drawings in the first place. The fact the winner gets to take one of their opposing creations permanently is bitter sweet. There is a fun element to having a keepsake of the people you battle against. But it does stink when you're the one loosing the creature, at least when it's one you've invested a lot of time into. But I respect what they're going for with the system and you at least get the option to export any of your creations as an image file. So if you make a drawing you put a lot of time into, it's not like that time is totally wasted if you loose the creature itself. Overall, a fun little time killer, especially if you're a fan of drawing. It is worth noting that this game does have microtransactions. The game by itself is a fair price for what the game offers. But there is also an option to buy in-game currency with real money. Which feels off to me when you already paid money just to play the game in the first place. Not a lot of money, but right in that range to make you question why they're trying to squeeze more out of you in the first place. Granted, you can just completely ignore that shop and not miss out on anything important. But I still feel like it was worth bringing up in case that's a dealbreaker for someone else.
