Lesson learned. Don't buy any Falcom games on launch, because they'll announce a better version a month later.
👍 Recommended (with conditions) 🎮 Ys X: Proud Nordics — Worth It? I’ll keep this simple: Ys X: Proud Nordics is basically the definitive edition of Ys X: Nordics—but whether it’s worth your money depends heavily on one thing: 👉 Do you already own the original? ✅ What’s New / Improved Öland Island – a new area with additional story and characters (~6–10 hours) Expanded skill system – you can upgrade skills further for more damage/power New Mana ability – exists… but honestly feels pretty useless Corrupted (harder) enemies – better challenge and rewards Endgame dungeon (Muspelheim) – nice extra content for late-game players Colosseum mode – boss fights and challenge runs More collectibles & materials Quality-of-life improvements – smoother gameplay, better pacing, all DLC included Save transfer support – you can import your Ys X: Nordics save and continue progress New Game+ upgrades – including level 99+ enemies for extra challenge ❌ What Doesn’t Change Same core story and structure Same world (outside the new island) Same gameplay loop 👉 It still feels like the same game, not a new experience. 🏁 Final Verdict Already own Ys X: Nordics? → ❌ No Not worth ~€35 for what feels like an expansion. New player? → ✅ Yes This is the best version of the game. Best advice overall: ⏳ Wait for a sale 💬 Final Thought Ys X: Proud Nordics is the ultimate version of a great game—but for returning players, it feels more like an overpriced DLC than a must-buy upgrade.
this review is not about the game itself, what I think of it is completely irrelevant, it deserves a negative regardless, here's why, what nihon falcom did is vile and completely disrespectful towards us consumers due to the following reasons: -reselling the same game with an expansion for a higher price when it could've been a dlc -allowing NISA to get away with their awful localizations in current day I only bought this game cus of very favorable regional pricing, what I paid in total for both this game is less than 50$ ONLY buy this game if you haven't bought the original
I dont recommend this Ys Game. - Duo Mode ruins the combat gameplay, makes it less fun - Upgrade system is weird and too complicated - Personally I don't feel the story to be as engaging as VIII or even IX If you're new to Ys, please play Ys VIII first then Ys IX.
Solid game, but not as good as 8 or 9. - The sailing/combat is okay, if not easy - Graphics are standard Ys, so they look like Switch 1 graphics - Characters/writing is okay - Overall Story is okay as well, but again, 8 and 9 were better After the trilogy that is 8, 9, and 10, i'm hoping they put some more time into 11 and make it something special with a little better production value, especially after seeing how good Trails in the Sky First Chapter remake turned out. It's a solid game, but it's VERY much the same game as 8 and 9, just viking themed, so it's time for a shake up.
Ys X PROUD Nordics - 8.5/10
Playtime: 48H Diff: Nightmare (NG+) This is append review Ys X nordics vanilla (Link: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198344310117/recommended/2731870?snr=1_5_9__402) because the changes for the main story is none. only affect the rebalance and the new content for proud version Plus: +Running speed in the city and boat default speed got a little bit speed up +New battle mark in the sea to open more wind route in the map +Skill mastery and Mana Ability can be open level cap using new currency +Oland Island as the place for new content like mana board race +All vanilla DLC include in this version +Gimmick from Ys II Chronicles is back in this game, you can put tiny mascot on your HUD screen +If you have clear data from Ys X nordics/vanilla ver, you can transfer it into proud immediately NG+ run Minus: -Oland island enemy placement is much more like padding -Mutant enemy outbreak is really a hassle to complete the battle book -As usual, Ys X proud nordics DLC is just a bunch of cosmetics Mixed: =Postgame dungeon is little rogue-lite with many modifier that you need to play repeatedly =This for me only, but the enemy on that postgame dungeon is very spongy.. i dont know if because the difficulty i choose or just the balance of the game for post game =Chap 3 boss rework is still an ass tho.. the timing for western release is really hurting both fans and falcom tho.. so just buy this ver game for more complete experience and content
Great Game. New additions from Proud Nordics are fun. Edit: Chapter 3 Boss is one of the worst in the series, if you can get past that it is high after high. I bought the original Nordics, and took this as an opportunity to replay the base game on a higher difficulty scale. I am not happy with the practice of releasing a more "complete" version of an already released game 1-2 years later as opposed to dlc, essentially what Atlus does. However I am a mindless sheep; the game is an adventure and I support Ys/Falcom.
Another great Ys game! This one is pretty slow to start. For the first 4 hours, it feels like gameplay is interrupted by a story scene every 5 minutes. Starting in Chapter 4, it opens up and becomes comparable to previous Ys games. There are a LOT of systems in this game. Individually, they are all basic, but they add up! Duo mode, dodging, guarding, skill chaining, skill upgrading, mana lines, mobility artifacts, sailing routes, boat customization, raids, crafting, relationship, and a million more I'm forgetting. This is probably the deepest Ys game yet, for better or worse.
