You're Not Special is a (mostly) non-combat, choices-matter, puzzle-based RPG. There are great forces set to doom the small kingdom in which you live and only the chosen one can stop them. The problem is, you're not the chosen one.

I won't lie to you wonderful people, I'm the one who programmed this game, wrote the sound track, and subjected you to a life of being not very special. That being said, if the free world of Steam isn't about leaving a positive review on your own game to slightly pad your stats, what are we even doing here in the first place? This game is not perfect, but it has a lot of fantastic things going for it. I believe the interactions and story-line are unique and interesting, the soundtrack is well thought-out and beautifully morose, and it has an aspect of game development which is both tricky and rewarding: having a system where your actions truly have significant consequences. Anyway, if you have any questions or issues with the game, feel free to contact us at Reky Studios and we will for sure get it sorted out! We hope you have a fantastic time playing!
This game is honestly such a gem! The music is incredibly composed, the writing is phenomenal, the puzzles are well planned and the characters are lovable. The creativity behind the story is so apparent, viewing the average games storyline from the perspective of the average joe. You’re not the hero, you’re not special. Furthermore, This game has a great deal of replayability. I have just completed my first play through, but I find myself wanting to go back and change how I handle one conversation, how I treat one npc etc. All in all I would buy this game again, and I certainly will play it again, if not for the story (which is so, so good) then for the atmosphere and the music, AHHH THE MUSIC. I may not be special, but this game surely is; 10/10.
It's legit one of the best games I have played so far. The graphics and music match the atmosphere of the game and the story is deep and fulfilling. Characters are well developed with each having a unique personality. Definitely recommended 10/10 !
One Word, Charm
This game packs a lot of it. At every turn there seems to be a pleasant NPC interaction packed with quirky dialogue, giving it a real feel of modern life and the weirdos we may encounter. Yet, it uses those interactions to contribute to an overarching narrative of the mundane, and what is possibly a reflection of our own desire to be more than we were meant to be. Aside from an interesting environment, let's talk about that music. I love it. I'm a huge sucker for quality soundtracks and this is no exception. The music does enough to putts you along and keep your mind active, without being too in your face. After about 5 hours of exploring a quaint little world to the wonderful melodies written and performed by Lighting Nights , I'm just going to have to check back and purchase that soundtrack. Finally, yes, this is a mostly non-combat RPG, but that doesn't mean it is without meaningful interaction. Explore your environment, interact with some great puzzles, complete side quests, and pick up on the all the little nuances left by the developers as you follow around the Chosen One on HIS quest for glory. And when there is combat... boy oh boy, can it be tough. Make sure to save often, keep your wits about you, and most importantly, remember that You're Not Special! Great job Reky Studios. A fun, easily consumable piece of art. A definite recommend. Vis ma vie de NPC
A clever game that sucks you in quick with its dry humor, fun puzzles, and creative premise. Even the more simple tasks, such as raising money to buy a cloak in order that your character doesn't freeze to death, cause you to find yourself heavily invested in growing cabbage or racing NPCs for sport. You can also tell the creators had a lot of inspiration from titles such as Skyrim or Fallout, and they pay homage through their storytelling and quick wit regarding some of the shared game dynamics. Highly recommended for any gamer as "You're Not Special" keeps the RPG genre fresh.
First of all I love this game. Secondly I leave it running while I'm not on, so my game time's gonna look like I spend my life on here and am completely obsessed. .... which wouldn't be the furthest thing from the truth honestly. The game is reminiscent of the RPGs I played as a child but charmingly self aware. I loved the character interactions, storyline, music , and the fact that that there are multiple endings. The puzzles are a great balance of manageable/ challenging. I think it has great replay value with the engrossing story and various outcomes. It's obvious the amount of thought/ effort that went into it. Would highly recommend
Honestly and to my shame: I came for the music, and stayed for the game. The puzzles are clever, and the characters sweet, the plot I enjoy, and also the read. Much love went in here, so give it a try, you won't be disappointed, as I would straight rebuy.
This game has a awesome soundtrack an interesting story and puzzles that can be hard to complete but are also fun. All the different endings add a lot to the game. This game is definitely worth buying for 12 dollars.
I really wanted to continue this game. However, despite the fact that it's mostly non-combat, I found some of the action parts too difficult. I decided to give up since they were probably only going to get worse! Some puzzles also required very exact timing if you didn't want to be squished by a rock, and there were places where it wasn't obvious what to do next. (Who on earth finds that fox without Googling it?) To be fair, most people will probably have few problems with the gameplay, but as a pregnant mother playing while completely exhausted at bedtime, I just didn't have the reflexes to grapple with it, and I certainly don't have the time to turn the game on in the early morning just to get through the next tricky bit. The story was also a bit lacklustre. The problem with these "you've lost your memory" games is that your character has no personality or backstory and has no idea what's going on, which never makes for a strong plot hook. The protagonist is chasing a random man without being able to articulate why or even who he is; you'd have thought that they might be a bit more bothered about remembering their own identity. Still, the plot may become more compelling as the story progresses. Perhaps one day I'll have another go, but at the moment I'm struggling with it. You may enjoy it more, but be aware that it involves real-time action which is harder than the typical turn-based combat of these games.
The score, the writing, the premise - you've never encountered anything like it. From the mind of Reky Studios, You're Not Special is very special indeed. Highly recommend to all my fellow RPG connoisseurs! So much attention to detail and effort put into this game.
