In WayForward’s experienced hands, the Yars franchise becomes an expansive mystery solved through 2D platforming action. Take control of the young hacker Emi Kimura, who is hired by a mysterious patron to infiltrate the shadowy QoTech corporation. Run, jump, sneak, and hack your way through challenges as you slowly unravel a complex secret shrouded in intrigue.
Emi grows in power throughout her adventure, allowing her to retrace her steps and reach previously inaccessible and secret areas. Her evolving hacking skills are critical to solving stimulating minigames that reference the innovative gameplay from the Atari 2600 title Yars’ Revenge.
The deeper into the QoTech facilities Emi ventures, the more expansive the sci-fi mystery becomes. A colorful cast of hacker allies help Emi discover her connection to a distant alien race and unlock powers unlike anything she could have imagined.

I'm not finished but I can safely say this game goes hard. The metroidvania aspect of it is on the easy side, and I do wish the game didn't point you in the exact direction you need to go so often, but you can still do some exploring for lots of optional items if you do get curious. The shmup minigames are also very fun, they expand on the 2600 Yars formula in a ton of unique ways the vibes here are also. off the charts. I have multiple songs from the ost stuck in my head and while the story isn't like the most profound thing ever, it's pretty hard to hate

If you enjoy Metroidvanias and classic Atari games then you'll absolutely love this. When I started playing this I didn't see how it could possibly connect to the original game, but it does it in such a brilliant way. At first it seems pretty casual but the deeper you go the more challenging it gets, and the hacking puzzles get more devious. It's definitely more Metroid than 'Vania, and the inspiration is clear, unlike most Metroidvanias I didn't get lost or stuck once - and the weapons feel great! Now I've 100%ed the main game I can't stop playing the hacking puzzles!
Utterly boring level design, dull combat, and yawn-inducing power ups make this a Metroidvania I could barely stomach for more than an hour. The dialogue is terrible across the board, but that’s the least of this game’s problems. And the hacking mini-games…my God. Almost every door you unlock has some variation of a very easy Space Invaders shoot em up. I was tired of them by like the 5th one, and I’d imagine they spam you with them constantly until the endgame. No thanks. Soundtrack is great though. Listen to that on Spotify and you’ll skip over needing to play this game to enjoy it.
Woah, this game is amazing - I don't know why it has so little reviews :O OK, I think I might have and idea... I think it's a little to expensive. I've got mine in promo for about 10$. I could easily pay up to 29$ for it, but as I can see - in my country is much more expensive. But beside the price - the game is really fresh in metroidvania genre, even though characters are almost too talkative, they are pretty fun and I like them. Gameplay is smooth, stealth is rather a only a flavor rather than mechanic, but it's perfect for me - I don't like stealth, and here - it doesn't bother me. Combat is skill based, but no dash or something like that - just jump to avoid, think fast, use environment. I've never felt that boss is unfair or movement to clanky. Soundrack is simply the best - I love it <3
