About

Take on the role of a skilled hunter in Faeland, an adventure RPG set in a beautiful world inspired by 8-bit classics.
Traverse through the expansive world of Faeland, making your way through forests, caves, dungeons and castles. As you unlock new abilities, revisit old haunts to explore previously inaccessible areas hiding deep secrets. Along the way, you will create enemies and make friends. You will be equipped with a full arsenal of weapons, but choose carefully as your choice will impact your combat speed and strengths.
Humans have established their kingdom through centuries of peace efforts, maintaining a safe boundary away from the dark forces of magic and monstrous beasts that lurk just beyond civilization. In a secluded forest, a young hunter’s life is forever changed when their home is raided by a horde of trolls and orcs. Forced to flee with little more than their courage, the hunter embarks on a journey to find safety.
But as their path unfolds, it becomes clear that a far greater threat looms over the realm. In a world teetering on the edge of chaos, the hunter must rise to become the hero destiny demands. With danger at every turn, their choices and actions will shape the fate of all who call this land home.
In Faeland, you can freely explore the open world, traveling from one town to another, talk to friendly NPCs, learn about the game’s lore and get useful tips, commerce valuable items to improve your economics, buy new equipment and consumables and take on quests to acquire useful loot while progressing in the main story. Some of the areas you need to traverse are challenging forests, caves, dungeons, castles and more. You also have to acquire new abilities and special items to gain access to previously inaccessible areas and paths. The combat style is customized through your equipped weapons, choose from knives, daggers, swords, axes, spears and bows, all with different attack animations, speeds, strengths and effects.
Diverse Arsenal. Choose from a wide range of weapons, all of which impact attack animation, speed, strengths, and effects.
Skill Scrolls. Acquire new abilities throughout your journey by receiving scrolls via exploration or as a reward for solving heroic quests.
Impactful Customization. Create your character, then show off your shiny new gear while also benefiting from the added strength and protection of different tunics and clothing gear, shields, gadgets, weapons and mythical tools that will support you in your journey.
Classic-Inspired Pixel Graphics. Detailed and handmade pixel art animations and environments in an "enhanced 16-Bit" expose wide color palettes, widescreen resolutions and fluid animations resulting in a contemporary and appealing art style.

I've played a fair bit of this now and it's a very good metroidvania/Zelda 2 homage, but I have to draw attention to the behaviour of the developers. Firstly, for a game this close to 1.0 there are some extremely annoying bugs that impact the basic function of the game. For example, map markers you place just disappear when you close the game, making it a mostly pointless feature - the community reported it in 2023 and the devs responded that they would look into it. 2026 and this hasn't been fixed despite several updates tells me something about the people behind this. Secondly, the devs decided that the PC players who supported their early access title, and enabled parallel development and revenue, should be locked out of a 1.0 release until they have secured the conditions needed to release simultaneously on console. That's right, 1.0 is ready (actually it was initially pushed back due to Silksong) but you can't play it because consoles. Their initial plan was PC first (and rightly so) but now with no indication of when the console rights will be secured, 1.0 release is again unknown. A real slap in the face for EA adopters imo. I hate to use a review like this, but behaviour like this needs calling out.

Currently I can't in good conscience recommend anyone purchase this game for some reasons I will go into. 1. I purchased this game a couple of days before it was supposed to release, the posts were up and it had the countdown for 1.0 on the store page. I was excited and have been waiting on this game for a long time. At the very last minute it felt like they pulled a bait and switch, cancelling the release of 1.0 citing that it was to not compete with the game in question. However they later changed their reason to be that they were upgrading the game into the new engine update, that they wanted to release it as a simultaneous console/PC release. Changing their reason without giving any solid update to the customers, the fans and the backers. The game has now missed its release window by 8 months, very few and vague updates (the last of which being 2 months ago with no communication) and still no update on when the game will finally release. 2. They are preventing the backers, those who financially supported the project and made this possible, from even playing the 1.0 release or any newer updates/test builds because of their desire to release on consoles simultaneously, or because of the engine update, whatever reason they choose. This is saddening to hear. 3. Playing the game now might not reflect how the game will even play at 1.0 if it ever happens. If they really have been updating it to this new version of the engine we have no idea how that will affect the physics, what they will change or anything. I can't recommend anyone purchase this game until they give updates on the situation and release the game into 1.0. 4. Even if it weren't for all of these reasons, the game currently has a lot of strange hitches randomly. The loading times are all over the place and honestly far too long for what the game is at times. The cutscenes are way too drawn out and slow, unskippsble even when they are actually finished and you're just staring at your character standing still waiting for the scene to end. It doesn't have any reason to be like that and I hope when 1.0 releases these things are addressed. 5. The constant posting of clips of the game in short forn content that they have time for but not the time to answer the people who are excited for the game, it's disheartening. People just want to know when the game they have been waiting a long time for will potentially be out. The launch window was missed, the updated launch window of Spring this year was missed and now it's radio silence. I really do hope the best for the Devs, but as for now you are best waiting
Constant lying from the developers over the PC release. First they didn't want to release Faeland the same month as a popular game...then again. Now it's oh we want to wait for licensing on all console with no idea of how long it will take. Instead of giving the game any MUCH needed polish, they are worried about multi platform and scamming gamers that were once interested in their game. The game itself is so buggy and incredibly slow. It really should have been given more work, rather than the focus on greed. This developer has made a joke of themselves unfortunately.
They have delayed the official release out of Early Access for a considerable long time now with little to no communication. Silksong was going to be a problem it's understandable but It's been months since Silksong released. DO NOT buy this game until they get out of Early Access. If they even do.
"Faeland V1.0 Coming 9.9.25!" - after this news from the developers I bought the game but the developer just fooled us
Game is supposedly done, but dev keeps making excuses for why they won't release it. Iran war, too hot outside, other game came out, console bs.
This game is absolutely incredible, especially in terms of its art style, level design, and many other aspects. Unfortunately, the developers seem to have forgotten about this beautiful project. It’s honestly such a shame and deeply disappointing to see a development team bring a game this far, only to suddenly abandon it and throw away all their hard work, effort, and reputation. Not only could this game have become something truly amazing (if it had actually been released), but it also could have served as a major achievement and source of credibility for the team’s future projects. What a waste. I really hope one of the developers reads this message, comes to their senses, and decides to continue the development of the game once again.
I don't think I can recommend this honestly, as much as it is a nice homage to Zelda 2/metroidvania, sort of. While taking inspiration for a stamina meters from modern zelda and dark souls. But this includes running, which if you want to get anywhere quick, you want to run. I kinda wish this was separate from your dodge mechanics. Here are my main gripes with the game: -Stamina system needs to be separate from running -Shield enemies and the sluggish combat -Puzzle platforming feels bad to control and sometimes unintuitive -Sound design, every weapon impact feels and sounds like slapping with a wet fish. It sucks and needs to have a final pass before it hits 1.0 tl;dr - Game looks great, but feels bad to actually play.
This game is ATROCIOUS. I was looking so forward to this game, too. It starts off so well: Ogres brake into your home and you are on the run, having to make your way through a dense wilderness and spider caves. Along the way to Valia Town you slowly level up, getting low level equipment and abilities that help you forward. The progression was nice, at first. Sounds cool, right? You constantly duck to have to strike enemies (unless they are on a slope). The combat is just dull. At first I thought it was not so bad, until I had played for 3 hours and realized it is the same no matter what area you are in or the enemy you encounter. The map… oh my god the map. It just has squares to show you where you’ve been, but here’s the thing: sometimes it still greys out whole areas that you have already been to. You find numerous chests that have a small bag of gold or quite literally a piece of cheese. How exciting. The story goes nowhere. After 3 hours of playing I have learned nothing as to why a group of ogres invaded my home and chased me off. Please do yourself a favor and pass on this game. I wish I had.
UNFINISHED PRODUCT!!! <<< DO NOT BUY >>> This game hasn't fully released yet!! It's UNFINISHED product. No achievements. I don't understand why they're selling this game now. And they would never update this game.
