Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution

I had some problems with recent Shantae games, but this one does feel like a return to form. It's as good as the older games. Fun to play, appealing to look at, and the familiar comedy and sexy designs. It's fun to run around in the maps with the transformations you unlock, and there are many secrets to find.

Game 1 completed in 2026 Classic Metroidvania Shantae adventure. Despite being a remaster, still has lots of the oldy GBA quirks. Wouldn't recommend as someones FIRST Shantae. An oldie BUT a GOODIE. 8/10

They did exactly what they said they would and finished a old incomplete Gameboy Advanced Shantae game. Aside from the character sprites during story and the dlc costumes nothing new was really added. But I am perfectly fine with it since WayForward kept their promise and completed the game. That is exactly what you get with this Shantae game and nothing more. Story is overall kind of weak and Risky never really explains why she is causing trouble moving all the islands around, she appears to just be doing it cause she is the villain so why not. Conversations felt pretty plain and this Shantae game was lacking a lot of jokes. The humor in the other Shantae games is one of the many reasons I love playing them. Diving mechanic felt under used and useless by mid to late game and there was no super hard final level. Squid Baron is not in this Gameboy Advanced Shantae game or in the original Gameboy Color Shantae game, these two older Shantae games have made me realize how much I miss his character and the humor he brings to the Shantae world.

Shantae Advance is a lot of fun, but you can tell it was made with a much older platform in mind first and foremost. It can't be as ambitious as it wants, which is a shame, but understandable. If you're a fan of Shantae, I'd highly recommend, but be warned, if you don't buy the Deluxe Edition with the extra costumes, you can't buy the costumes as DLC, you have to purchase the game again. Personally, I didn't get the costumes, they don't really change up the game enough for me, at least not compared to Half Genie Hero's costume DLCs, but the option is there if you just want to see Shantae in some fun costumes.

Solid game, especially for fans of the series! I'd say Pirates Curse or Half-Genie Hero are better places to start this series, just to get a feel for the gameplay loop and humor. Even if you're not acquainted with the series though, this entry is a really fun time!

A fun Shantae Game Plays nicely and has great pixel graphics!

This is Really not a bad game so far: The only gripe i have is that the dlc isn't a separate entity to buy for cheap by what is listed $9.99 from the showcase pop up and clicking on it only makes it want me to buy the whole game again plus those costumes, which: is greedy. The whole reason a lot of us fell in love with the Shantae series was due to it being affordable Nobody can justify spending $60+ on it that's usually what triple A games are listed and this ain't that chief.
