Summary: Too expensive for what it offers. A very simple and short game that quickly becomes monotonous. I don't think it has any glaring flaws, but it also lacks merit. I don't recommend this game, even if you're a RWBY fan. The gameplay is very monotonous, and it doesn't help that the character upgrades are just the same abilities with extra uses. (Wise creates a platform, his ability upgrade allows him to create two; Ruby has a dash, now her ability upgrade make her dash goes farther, etc...) The skill points are a joke, from the name (SKILL POINTS), I thought they would unlock abilities or something new for the characters, but no, they're used to increase character stats, which unbalances the game because you can easily put all your skill points into a single character and play only with them to progress, limiting the other characters to completing the "puzzles" The story seems very simple to me, but it portrays the characters' personalities very well, and the animated cutscenes and humor were very enjoyable. The game is quite easy; I never lost. The hordes of enemies seem more like a cheap attempt to pad out the game's length than a genuine challenge. The maps are meh, and the constant repetition of the same environments doesn't help. The music is what disappoints me most. RWBY has several great tracks, but here the background music is incredibly generic. The only music I enjoyed was the introductory level's soundtrack; I expected much more from it. Despite my complaints, I don't consider it a bad game; I managed to finish it with 90% completion in 4 hours of gameplay. However, I do think it's too expensive for what it offers, even if you like RWBY. Sadly, it has more shortcomings than strengths, I think it's a mediocre product.
So as i was writing this review i came to find out that Arrowfell released the same exact day as the Bendy & The Ink Machine sequel. A RWBY game sharing a release date with the sequel to a game about an animation company’s horrific abuse of it’s employees... is hilarious ironic and sad at the sametime... the irony only made worst by making a Union leader one of the villains in the game. (And from what i understand it didn't help the game's sales because of said abuse controversy). Now as someone who liked Grimm Eclipse (Not a perfect game i know). And like the universe of RWBY (Never watched the show as i have been told by everyone it is a big mess, With the writing being inconsistent and even terrible at times). I had to try Arrowfell. And man... you can really tell they character assassinated James Ironwood in his sudden descent into villainy in Volume 8 from this game alone. If they really needed a dictator Jaques is like right there. Anyways off topic, back to the game. For a second attempt at a RWBY video game... it is unbearably mediocre at best. Which from what i have been told that is just proper course for RWBY overall. Filled with Interesting ideas that are thrown to the wayside and cool Side characters are discarded to focus on Team RWBY being bland. (And keep in mind i love Ruby). Like putting so much Emphasis on team BRIR, but are barely seen throughout the game. (How did Ironwood not know about team BRIR... did his staff keep them as undocumented workers so they could get away with undepaying them?). The gameplay is just boring, with the combat Insanely repetitive. Just button smash and you will win easy. Visually the game is artistically pretty too look at so it has that going for it. But that is pretty much it... i guess some of the music tracks are okay. So my rating for this game will be 4.9/10. I hope to one day see a really good RWBY game. Like maybe an RPG set 100 years in the past where you can make your own character and run your own team at Beacon so we can finally explore the Academy ourselves. I could totally see Owlcat games make a fantastic game set in the RWBY universe if anyone had to do it.
Do not bother unless on sale. Game is mediocre.
Good if you're a fan of RWBY but not much else. The gameplay is fun and the different Huntresses have a unique playstyle. This does feature unique animations created by the Rooster Teeth team that makes the show and new songs from Jeff and Casey Lee Williams. If you are a RWBY fan you probably already played this game but if you hadn't and you need a RWBY fix before vol 10 comes out RWBY Arrowfell will scratch that itch.
im amazed that both arrowfell and grim elcipse manage to leave a lot to be desired. neither manage to capture that flashy fluid fights rwby offers within the show. eclipse each person has one best move to spam, in this game semblances feel dry and boring mostly used to traverse the level more than fighting the grim. switching characters mid fight is clunky and slow not to mention you need to invest skill points into each girl to make them stronger. and since all the girls share the same hp pool you may as well just focus all ur points on one person, probably ruby as she has the most range and dodging capablities with her semblance which... just lets her dash forward... Yang just feels terrible to use in general with how pathetic her punch range is, blake and weiss are useable i guess... gun ranged attacks use up your "aura" or hp pool and arent even that good compared to just using melee, why lower your hp for a less useful attack? If you like rwby youll probably like it and the small story that happens in between volume 7 time. but for a "beat em up" side scroller it is pretty uninspired the girls dont feel or excel at anything different from one another so they feel much the same to use, besides yang who just feels terrible to use. hopefully one day a good rwby game can hit the market.
I will always support RWBY because i wish so greatly for there to be a great game to release one day (rip amity arena you will be missed) its okay, kinda short and easy to cheese, but the story and dialogue is fun
Amazing game
Very fun I love how cute they all look!!
The only good thing about this game is that Monty Oum didn't live to see it's release.
I just finished the first chapter so here are my thoughts/first impressions/critiques, etc, of the game from the start as someone who is bad at games and platformers. I'll come update this the more i play 3 hours: I like it so far but I have a few points to make: 1. The learning curve is a bit steep, I feel like there could be better introduction to mechanics. For example, it doesn't tell you that Ruby's semblance can be used as a dodge, and they could've added a small tutorial on timing her dash to evade enemy attacks, especially because this is a crucial mechanic 2. The plot is not bad, it's kinda sad that the characters are not voiced more. The dialogue isn't too bad but sometimes the characters are so painfully overexplaining the situations or elements of the game, which I guess is normal 3. I feel like you should start off with 4 hearts because there's 4 characters 4. The platforming is not too hard, but I hardly play platformers, and struggled a lot at first to get the hang of it especially with no basic tutorial. Although that's probably just a skill issue 5. I don't get why there are ledges to jump onto in the first boss fight if you cant even evade its rolling attack and get forced to quick switch to Ruby for dash. I guess that helps you get used to switching? I just think jumping above the attack should've been an option either way 6. Why is Weiss slow in every RWBY game 7. The graphics are quite cute, I like them 8. You can't pause the game or exit to the main menu without loading into a location first which is acutally very inconvenient. You can't pause the game during animated cut scenes either which is annoying. 9. I quite like the soundtrack and the music. The original songs are nice 10. I don't like the way you can't skip dialogue you've already seen Anyways ill come back and update this the more i play For now i recommend it but I don't think you should buy it for full price. My favourite person in the world bought it for me !!! 6.8 hours: 1. It is very frustrating to not have an option to skip dialogue you've already seen but I didn't expect CUTSCENES to be unskippable after haveing viewed them too. The chapter 2 bossfight isn't that hard because the boss just spams like 4 attacks that are all long range and dodgeable, but if you mess up and die you'll have to watch the whole cutscene and go through all the dialogue again which would be very frustating. I only had to go through it twice but that was already annoying 2. I wish the bossfight arenas were slightly more dynamic so you could play around the space a little more. I like how the game forces you to play around the characters but they should make the spaces a little more unique 3. The game does feel very lazy. I couldn't put my finger on it at first but now I see it. It definitely has to do with the dialogue and enemy placement. It wasn't too bad at the start but now it just feels lazy to fill a bunch of spaces with a bunch of annoying heavy attack enemies. The lack of ui on the dialogue also makes the game feel very cheap and lazy 4. It would be great if the game was more direct and had an objective list 5. Please add boss hp levels 6. Please add the names of the npcs above the npcs so I don't have to talk to all of them because I forgot who's who The game is still enjoyable though 15.9h: I finally finished the game!! 1. It wasn't too hard to get 100% achievments: The hardest one is to max out all skill points 2. I found the final boss fight kinda eh. It was a bit underwhelming and felt like every boss fight so far except with a random ambush in the middle. 3. Also the game doesn't auto save after the final boss so if you exit the map after beating him you have to redo the battle, oops 4. Im glad they kept the cutscene before the bossfight relatively short short though 5. The plot isnt' too bad but it's a bit generic to be honest. 6. Relplayability level isn't that high as there isn't anything to do after beating the game 7. Once you get the entirety of team RWBY is at a high enough level the game is pretty easy (although you could beat the game with just Ruby) Suprisingly, I found I used Weiss a lot, and never used Yang in battle once 8. I played the entirelty of the game with a mod that made switching between characters seamless. I think I'd die without it tbh ---- Overall the game was quite fun to play and I actually found myself enjoying it a lot. It does feel a bit cheaply made and I wouldn't pay full price for it at all. 100% achievements was easy because most of them were story related. The only one I acutally had to work for was the 100% skill points and killing enemies with Yangs semblance. Gameplay was a bit repetitive but still enjoyable, while the plot was alright. I really loved the character designs and the character art, they looked amazing especially team BRIR and Penny. Thanks for reading lol
